If they reboot it, Charlize Theron should play the Evil Witch, Jadis. Has anyone seen the trailer for Snow White and the Huntsmen? She plays the evil queen, and makes Tilda Swinton look like the fairy godmother.
Imagine those, but brought to life as scenes in a fully hand-drawn animated feature film.
That would be gorgeous indeed, but nearly impossible to make. Hand drawn animated films always make use of a very nice background, but the moving objects cannot be drawn in the same way, because it is simply too much work. For example, the film Brother Bear had beautiful, painted backgrounds, but the characters were drawn on in typical Disney style, with clear, black edges. What you suggest is nearly impossible because:
1) It would take years to make all the drawings/ paintings.
2) The (beautiful) images you refer to, include characters with no clear edges, everything sort pours over into the background. To make a character move, you would have to redraw the entire background in every frame, which is nearly impossible.
Now, this doesn't mean it would not be possible. I've never seen an example of it, perhaps it doesn't exist, but I'm sure that, with modern technology, you could make computer animation that resembles hand-drawn animation of the sort you're images seem to refer to.
Wow, that really gets my imagination going. You can even mocap actors, and then make the most fluent semi-drawn animation ever! and that style would be so unique, that everyone will want to see it.
Don't know if I posted on this before in here, but I don't see why whomever makes the next films can't just reboot with The Silver Chair, especially if they do make it in the next three years. There doesn't have to be any association with Walden, they (the next film/production company) can just make The Silver Chair fresh as if it were the first film and go on from there.

I LOVE that idea! In fact, I think that would be the best way to present SC; a fresh start with no attempts to squeeze LWW references into it. Eustace, Jill and Puddleglum are such engaging characters on their own, it would be a shame if they came across as "Pevensie substitutes."
I think, and I know for a fact I've said this before, that they should drop the CON from the beginning of the title, just because SC is so different from the three previous movies.
It would certainly help to avoid connecting SC with the negative opinion of VDT.
Honestly, that's a relatively minor concern. Not that many people went to see VDT. PC, on the other hand turned a lot of people off of the series.
I would be against a reboot anytime in the next 10 years at least, simply because LWW was such an incredible adaptation, and PC though not as good of an adaptation is my favorite Narnia film. I wouldn't mind seeing VDT redone but to do a reboot soon I think would be kind of discreditng the first 2.
Though if it was done I would would be to remove Suspian and Peter's spoiled brat attitude from PC and just overall stick a little closer to the original storyline. VDT would need to be reworked totally, seeing as there isn't a whole lot salvagable from that movie besides Will Poulter (he would be hard to top) and a few other great scenes here and there(not enough though ).
I wouldn't want a reboot for some time, but when it inevitably is made I would want the following:
1)Make the Pevensies (and the rest of the kids for that matter) younger. Not only would this be different than the Walden franchise, it would lessen issues such as aging between movie. This would also make them closer to the spirit of the books.
2)Spend less time focused on the war. I didn't necessarily mind the WW2 scenes, but less emphasis on the war would differentiate a new series from the previous.
3) In LWW, focus more on the Pevensies' wonder of Aslan instead of the Narnian's wonder of the Pevensies. Make it about Aslans return in which he uses four kids, not the other way around. And in the rest of the movies, make Aslan more dominant. Not nessesarily more prominent in screen time, but just make Aslan more important to the Narnians.
Obviously for the first three films, they would get many comparisons to Walden's franchise, but after that it should be able to make a name for itself. I would not, however, like some people wish that the series start with MN. Yes, this would be different, but it would sacrifice good storytelling for the future films. MN is MEANT to be a prequel. We are MEANT to discover Narnia with the pevensies. Okay, enough with my rant
One other possible thing to do would be to look at animation as a possibility. I wouldn't want classic Disney, Pixar, or Dreamworks style animation, but performance capture animation might work. Or even traditional CG that is done in a more stylized way.
Surprisingly, I am not too opposed to this idea of rebooting the series. I do think they will have to wait 6 or something years. But maybe due to the fact that they are having to wait sometime anyway, maybe that time will pass before they have a chance to get it out anyway. If they start over with LWW then, I think that making it darker would be helpful. Plus, if they could people like Peter from getting out of character, that would be good too. But I would not be opposed to mini-tv series.
I don't think it needs to be that much different at all.
minimum budget LW&W
Have Douglas Gresham, Andrew Adamson & a script writer do each episode, with a different script writer for each entry to give it freshness, Andrew Adamson to help keep a continuity of vision and themes, and Douglas Gresham to keep fidelity to the novels. I forgot! need to have each Director involved with the script too, so that person is able to map out the narrative beats that lets them make a unique over arching form of the complete story, best if that person were to liases with AA in having script that fills Director's needs too rather than all three above so the process not get too complicated
- I know people don't like the Peter change for PC but that was a change that suited the theme of the novel, the adaptions can't just be superficial exact replay of the novel, if people want the novel, read the novel! Part of the Narnia stories involve intrinsically a hidden depth, a spirituality behind the stories, the themes working behind the scenes of the stories. A film plays out in much more rapid motion than reading a book, so to properly reflect the story and make it alive, there has to be changes to compensate for the depth involved in the original story as experienced in the written form. -
that would solve the problems, no need to jettison everything as lots of things have been well done.
I think if they were ever to reboot the Narnia film franchise, there are a few things I think they should do differently. first of all, the main thing I think they'd benefit from is picking a specific art direction for the film series and stick heavily to it. The first film, LWW, was a great film, PC was also pretty good but VDT was rushed and, quite honestly, felt like they lost touch with the film series' overall style. it felt way too much like a book adaption rather than a stand alone film. I think if they were to do a reboot of the franchise they should focus on one particular idea. Narnia! Rather than make each film feel like a book-to-film story, the franchise should focus heavily on the land of Narnia and make every single movie feel like one fantastic fairy tale out of a million stories that take place in this world. the movies should make viewers feel like they are sitting in on a visual story-telling session of these select tales from this immensely vast world. one particular detail that could add to this is a title change. go from The Chronicles of Narnia to, simple, Narnia, followed by the title of whatever book. This would also make the stories of Magicians Nephew and Horse and His Boy that much easier to integrate into the series because they're such separate tales. If this is done right, maybe viewers will leave the theaters with a curious desire to hear what other stories exist in Narnia, outside of these seven. another big detail they could focus on for a reboot is the artistic style of the Narnia universe. the films need a consistent and distinct design for the sets, costumes, etc. I'm talking Tim Burton meets Peter Jackson. The Chronicles of Narnia are a legendary book series, the films should reflect that in every single camera shot. they would need to be fantastic and magical motion pictures. each one shouldn't just feel like a big-budget movie, but a full on experience. those are two things i thought were somewhat lacking in the past three films.
If they rebooted Narnia (which I have mixed feelings about! I mean, really, recasting Skandar and Georgie? And losing Adamson's wonderful LWW?), I would agree with some of the NWers that....
1) they shouldn't try to add in the "Christian" stuff because they want to make people happy, but because its an essential part of the stories. I am a Christian, and I think the best "Christian" parts of the film are the ones that aren't forced. The Stone Table scene is a great example of generally "Christian" aspect being in the film because its part of the story, and it was done in a very "Narniaish" way.
2) they should gear it to a little older audiences, which in turn would mean making it "darker". Yeah, I actually kind of like that idea. Now it cannot become a LotR copy, for sure! That would be horrible. But, there was a sense of ... urgency in LWW and especially in PC that was lost in VotD, which I think is what makes the latter seem so "light". I actually love the battle scene in LWW, but there are a number of things you can change (without changing the plot or story or message of the book) that would make it more emotional, intense and serious (more life or death).
The film makers of the reboot would have to be careful to not end up with a film that feels like HP, PotC or LotR. It would be a challenge, but it would be wonderful!
Merry Christmas!

Honestly, to me, I love the Narnia series now but here are the things I would change in a reboot.
1. Definitely a little more emphasis on Aslan, thought I think it was pretty awesome how he was portayed anyway...
2. Zero Suspian. Okay, I can get over how they changed Susan from the books, but that pairing just rubs me the wrong way...lol.
3. If there's to be romance, (and I would enjoy some romance) I would like it to be Lucy and Caspian. (Yeah, I know, Ramandu's daughter is supposed to marry him. I can't help it. ) So in my opinion they should do a subtle Lucy/Caspian romance. This time where both actually feel something for the other. (Not just Lucy) Also, to do this they need to age Caspian's character down a bit to what he originally was supposed to be in the books. Because frankly, Ben Barnes, I love him, but he is waaay to old for Lucy.
4. I think the White Witch could be portrayed differently somehow. I don't really have any problems with how she is right now in the films but I think something could be done to her character...I'm not exactly sure what though.
That's all I can come up with right off. I would not, however, change Peter's character that much. I really like how he was done and I think William Moseley pulled off the emotions pretty dang well, even when he was a snot at times. I also love Geargie Henley as Lucy but it would be so interesting to see how (if there was a reboot) they would change the characters this time.

go from The Chronicles of Narnia to, simple, Narnia, followed by the title of whatever book
I pretty much agree but not entirely. The Chronicles of Narnia, then novel title is too long. It's too much of a mouth full, even when telling people the film is playing and they don't know it is, at the cinema. Many people who didn't even know Prince Caspian had been and gone at the cinema & who's recognition is LW&W, to tell them that The Chronicles of Narnia: Voyage of the Dawn Treader is playing, it almost feel like trying to force the film onto the person and you are just saying what the title is!!!
Is too much for casual movie goer to latch onto, once someone has initial degree of investment in series not problem, but till that point the title is a bit of a barrier with the thousand and other things a casual movie goer may have on their mind.
They should first and foremost just be advertised as Narnia Like, 'Oh there's a new Narnia film playing' is all it needs. Not Narnia 1, 2 3 or 4, just a new Narnia film is what needs to be spoken. I would keep the Chronicles of Narnia text, along with the novel name text in the marketing, but the far more effective message should just be that there is a new Narnia film for the general public who have lost touch if wanting to double the audience/ticket sales i think when comes to basic market brand of the films.
Narnia, then what the basic story it about, all that is needed, not LW&W re-dux or anything, just Narnia & characters/story of particular film for marketing to have people's curiosity. Then that can lead on to the Chronicles film aspects & the book basis later for the non-initiated who can discover it for themselves. Like the books, everyone had different ways of becoming interested in the Narnia novels, & Chronicles of Narnia: Novel Title, epic by C.S. Lewis, is an big presumption for a more casual movie goer to know about or have much understanding of.
Edit: I changed my mind
I agree with filmBuFf991, re-branded as just Narnia would be best; i really like 'the Chronicles' as that relates to entire book series but i'd only show that on the movie titles in the actual films and have all other marketing changed to just Narnia
I agree with branding it differently. I think something that they should try is just advertising each movie individually. Just, The Magician's Nephew; The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe; Prince Caspian or even PRince Caspian The Return to Narnia, etc. I think this might be a good tactic. What do you guys think?
