I voted 7 pretty faithful because pretty much most of the book was there, with some reshuffling of the events. As far as the takeover of the Lone Islands - please, I think that is such a minor change. I would have been bored if the Lone Island actually would have been taken over without force in the movie. Its a minor change that I actually liked more than the book and its minor changes like this that make me rate this film a 7 instead of a 10 since these weren't major themes in the book. Also the addition of the green mist and the seven sword pulls this down to a 7 instead of a 10.
Contrary to other opinions - I feel that the theme of Dawn Treader is not 'one's longing'..sorry. I feel that is off. IMO, the theme of Dawn Treader is discovery and the spiritual connection that is releaved between Earth and Narnia. And that was portrayed very well. Yes, Reepicheep does long to be in Aslan's Country, but its not the main theme of the book. Its given as much screen time as the book gives.

I'd like to say that it is 0% unfaithful....but there were somethings that went along with the book (I could count them on my fingers, but never the less they were there) so I went with 2 - Pretty Unfaithful. VERY unfaithful in fact, it was the worst adaption I have seen yet.....to me in PC was better

I voted 3. I think that they had elements such as the albatross, but the heart and spirit of the book was missing along with some crucial scenes. Most of these "elements" weren't developed or expanded on either.

I'm going to go with a 5 for now. I've only seen the movie once (next time will be on DVD) so my opinions may change when I see it again. (That happened with Prince Caspian.) When I saw VDT, I really liked it despite the seven swords and green mist up until the Sea Serpent. I hated that scene so much that I literally just sat in the theater watching, unimpressed, shaking my head, thinking This is NOT VoDT. I felt no emotion at the end of the world scene because the sea serpent ruined it for me, :p I'm sad to say. :( I certainly plan to see the movie again, though, and as I said, my opinion may (and I wouldn't be surprised if it does) change for better or worse.

I gave VDT a 3 in terms of it being an adaptation (it was rather mediocre) and 6/10 in terms of it being an okay movie.

As far as adaptations go:

LWW: 87 % true to the plot/themes/characters/feel of the book.
PC: 65 % true to plot/themes/characters/feel the book
VotDT: 40 % true to the plot/themes/characters/feel of the book.

The VDT film is fairly faithfull to the book. The major elements and themes are there. And there's a lot of Reepicheep, which I love!

I'm not all that happy with especially Narrowhaven.

All in all, a good film. I'm supporting it, have seen it several times and recommended it to anybody, who would listen. :)

I finally decided to give VDT a 5 as an adaptation. That even may be a bit generous. ;) Was leaning towards a 6, fairly fathful, but the short time spent in Narrohaven and the reversal of how Caspian overthrows the slave traders brought it down another notch for me.

So far, 22 of the 32 votes at present are at 5 or below. Kind of what I expected for the adaptation. Definitely not close to being the greatest ever. :(

I gave it 50/50. It would have been higher, but I was at a loss when it came to the Green Mist and the Seven Swords. They just seemed so random. And there were a couple of other places that made me sit back and scratch my head. But for the most part, I liked it.

I voted 4.
A lot of the characters from the book were there but... I didn't like the green mist addition or the additions on the crew of Gael and her father (Rhince?) or the 7 swords needing to be placed on the table.

The Voyage of the Dawn Treader? 2. It was very unfaithful. Not totally, but almost. The beginning up to the Lone Islands and the very end (sort of) were what kept me from completely and totally condemning this film. Besides being a rather poor film in general, the screenwriters decided they didn't like Lewis' story, so they rewrote it the way they wanted it. Then they misled Douglas Gresham or something and told him it was "necessary". :((

I have seen VDT once and I thought it was "pretty faithful". Definitely could have been so much better, but it also could have been worse.

I'm pleased with the movie and look forward to buying the DVD.

I chose 4 - "Not so faithful"
VDT is okay as a movie, and has some scenes that are pretty faithful to the book. But things like Lucy's line about Aslan's country "Do you really believe there's such a place?", Caspian saying that if anyone deserves to go there it's Reepicheep, and the general feeling of "We're out here anyways, so let's go ahead and swing by Aslan's country while we're at it." The pointlessness of the albatross, the ever-intrusive Green Mist, and various other things really messed up the "Adaptation"

I voted just over half. It was really hard to decided between that and 50/50. I have trouble with such scales to begin with. :P

Eustace was somewhere between 90 - 99 % correct.
Reepicheep was about the same as Eustace.
Edmund was not as close. It is hard to tell in his case because I don't have a strong impression of him from the book. ;))
Lucy wasn't as close as she has been in the previous movies.
Narrowhaven was completely wrong. The only exception being Eustace trying to escape and leave the others.
The end of the world scene was about 50/50.
The green mist / sword plot wasn't true to the books.
Eustace's dragoning undragoning wasn't as close as I would have liked but I could still see the themes from the book.
The beginning in Eustace's house was good and the ending minus the name drop.
The sea serpent fight was most wrong, although the pinning it to the rock part was good.
It still felt like Narnia, so I can't rate it too low.

I voted a 5, or 50/50. There was a mix of very good things they got right(ex. Eustace, Magician's Island sequence, Reepicheep) but two things they got wrong really set me off, those being the Lone Islands and the Undragoning sequences.

To be honest, all of the adaption rankings of the Narnia films so far to me have been mixed or near mixed. There's no way I will ever rank an adaption above a 6 or 7.

At least the Narnia film adaptions are pretty good compared to other things. Examples being Gulliver's Travels and Mr. Popper's Penguins.

The green mist/swords I'm not including in my ranking because I've never been sure how I feel about them. I don't like them, but I don't exactly hate them...
