As of this post, the general rating for VDT as a movie here on NarniaWeb is
97(Great + Good) to 42(OK + Not that good + terrible). Link: http://forum.narniaweb.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=2293 That is a 2.3 to 1 positive ratio.
What this poll is for is VDT as an adaptation only. I'm sure that there are those like myself who did like the movie but recognize that the adaptation far from ideal. And there are those who did not appreciate the movie or the adaptation. So I was curious as to where everyone would rank VDT in this regard.
If you wish to state why you voted the way you did, that would be nice. Who knows, maybe it will even help The Silver Chair to be adapted more faithfully to the book than VDT was.
Thanks for your responses and votes. I haven't voted yet myself.

There is definitely no "a" in definite.
The Mind earns by doing; the Heart earns by trying.
Best possible adaptation - 100% true to book!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I love the movie! it's my favorite movie of all time and to me it captures the essence of the book so well! good job, Walden Media, Fox, Michael Apted, and cast and crew!

50/50. They got all of the stuff from the book (Dufflepuds, Goldwater, Ramandu's Daughter, sea of lilies), but didn't really acknowledge them.
I voted "Not so faithful," because they did remember some paticular parts, but they didn't come out very strongly. Some things they added in just clouded the rest of main points. But at least I don't feel like it was totally unfaithful, because I still love the movie!
I voted 2. Abysmal adaptation.
The book and movie are fundamentally different stories. The book is a noble voyage to find the seven lords and set right what was wronged. The movie is a quest to save the world from green smoke (that does...something) by putting swords together.
They're also very different thematically. The book is about the longing. The movie is about believing in yourself. In the book, it's Aslan who saves helps them endure temptation. In the movie, they help themselves.
The book is compelling. The movie is boring, clumsily written, cliche, predictable, and forgettable.
There are crucial parts of the story that....I don't want to say they were poorly adapted, because they were simply not adapted at all. They threw them away completely.
I find it odd that anyone would say it's 100% faithful. I myself went with 50/50, and that's being optimistic on it. I really enjoyed the movie. But as an adaptation, I think it might be a bit less than 50% faithful but more than the other options given so that was the best for me.
I selected 1 but I think I could change it to 2, as there were a few things that were in the movie (beginning scene, end scene, some aspects of Reep's character development, and some aspects of Eustace's character development) that were faithful in spirit to VDT the book. The additions and subtractions were just too much for me. I was so very very very disappointed in this adaptation and it hurt as it could so easily have been such a wonderfully spectacular movie in better hands.

I voted for 2 because even though they had the big elements there, they were just done out of proportion, changed up and made into a completely different story. It was almost like a fanfic of the book, taking the elements and making them into something else. I love the movie when I am able to subconsciously take out the green mist plot and use my imagination while watching it to make it like how it should be.
I gave it a 7. Would have been an easy 8 if Ramandu had shown up. Or if at the end they had shown Lilliandil on the Dawn Treader- or another confirmation that Caspian and Lilliandil become a couple for sure.
But I am still very satisfied with this adaptation.
I like how they made the slavetrading part to be a good length- not as long as in the book, but still long enough to deliver the message well.

There was a part about slavetrading? Huh, must have blinked and missed that.
I voted 2. It may have had scenes and characters that had the same names as in the book, but at it's heart the movie and everything in it was nothing like the book - there was only a veneer.

My overview of VODT: http://lady-lirenel.livejournal.com/151965.html
I voted a 3. Although they messed up most of the themes and changed the focus of the plot, I will give them a few points for at least including all the main characters and most of the location and events, even if they did switch their order around and change them a bit.
Oh heck with it, I can just sum up why I voted 3 in 3 words...VDT was unfaithful.

The message was completely changed! In the book, they abolish the slave trade by not fighting. Caspian cleverly avoids bloodshed and retakes the islands. The movie was exactly the opposite! They retake the islands through force.
To say this scene was "poorly adapted" would be a huge understatement. The scene was simply not adapted at all. They took the entire chapter and everything Lewis was trying to do and threw it in the trash, replacing it with a silly Hollywood action sequence.
They spat in the face of CS Lewis when they made this scene. It could not be more different from what that part of the book is about. As a Narnia fan, I was very offended.
I voted 2. I almost voted 1 but I do admit it could have been worse. The movie goes through the motions of following the book, but doesn't really put any heart or feeling into it. They basically took the characters and setting and created a fundamentally different story.
I voted 7 becasue I thought that the film followed the book in most of the key points. (Minus all of that green mist and saccrifice stuff )
O.K so they changed the story around a bit but is that really the worst thing ever? If you went into the cinema not knowing it was a book, would you have enjoyed the film? I know I enjoyed it
If you look at the story and then try and see it as a film there are bits that are not too impressive (in terms of giant epic fantasy films) so some bits got changed, but some things are the same and it was a lot more faithfull than PC was!!! I personally loved VDT regardless of faithfulness but I also know that to some fans it is important to stick to the story line.
I hope that if SC gets made then the film is just like the book, but i don't mind if it gets changed a little bit.

I voted for 7-Pretty Faithful. It's funny because VDT is my favorite story out of all the Narnia stories but the LWW movie will always be #1 the most faithful of all. VDT did have lots of changes but to me I could live with these changes, I cant live with the changes made in PC because people who havent read these books or read them and can careless about the messages won't know the morals when seeing that film. I hate PC as a film!
VDT still had obvious morals on film which is why I loved it.
Long Live King Caspian & Queen Liliandil Forever!
