I voted they were awesome but I don't know about the "best ever"
The only clips I liked were the remixes of the old music and that only because Arnold tried to make them sound like Howard Shore's LotR scores. The rest was a fairly generic sounding mixture of faux!Danny Elfman, bits from Stargate's score, some PotC, some of John Williams' HP scores, and Michael Giacchino's Star Trek score. Bleargh.
I don't see the Elfman, Giacchino, etc influences that you're taking about - having listened to a bunch of earlier David Arnold scores, I can tell you that this is completely his style. This is what a David Arnold score sounds like. His rendition of HGW's heroic theme sounds nothing like LOTR IMO, he's arranged it in his own style. Personally, I like what I hear.
You may not have noticed them, but more than one person in the news story comments mentioned hearing the same influences that I did, along with a dose of Stardust. I was really hoping for musical awesomeness here, something to surpass the blandness of Harry's work, but this is even more generic than anything Harry did. Oh well. One less thing to waste potential tuition money on.
It sounds good, but I miss Harry Gregson-Williams.
I like what I am hearing, but I hope the Narnian themes we have heard in the previous films are still present as well.
I guess these clips would want to show the new stuff, so I'm hopeful, that the old themes will play a part in the music too!

Well, in some parts, I did feel like I had heard the music somewhere else, before...
However, I'm pretty happy with the music. I liked "the duel" because it sounded pretty funny.
I hope that some more of the themes from the previous films are incorprated as well.

Bookwyrm, I don't think anyone could hope to please your impossibly high standards. I'm not saying you have to like it and think it's the best thing ever but to call it 'generic' and 'bland', that just seems crazy to me.

Overall I like the music of Harry Gregson Williams better. That said, David Arnold's score may be more fitting for the VotDT film. And if it works in the context of the film, I'm alright with it.
Winter Is Coming
Thanks for the link Savber100. I'm really glad that there are themes that hint back to the previous two films, that it still sounds like a Narnia film even though the music is from a different composer. I especially like 'High King (?) and Queen of Narnia'. This theme always resonates well with the films and there's just something about this version that feels a bit more cinematic. There are new themes that feel like they are working well into the overall feel of Narnia as well as giving a "seafaring"/VDT feel ('The Lone Island' and 'Market Forces' for example).
I can't say much for how the new score will compare with that of the previous films until I hear each beat with scenes in the film. Right now, there isn't a whole lot that really intrigues me just on its own (that's not to say that the themes don't match or work as a whole). I am a bit disapponted that a lot of the themes range in the 2min marks and under (and then 'Liliandil and the Dark Island' at 11:05?! ). To me that just seems like a little taste of music with either a lot of repetition or not much music in the film. Should be interesting to hear the entire clips though.
I've got to go with "Not sure". As of now, there's not really anything that stands out on its own to me (that's not to say that I disagree with them), so I really have to hear the themes in context with the clips they match in the film.

I'm not entirely sure, really. I think it's good that this one is different, because the story and setting are so different. This is a sea-faring adventure, so the music should sound different. I really like most of what there is to hear so far, and I think it will suit the movie. On the other hand, I love so much Harry Gregson-Williams score (mainly for LWW, PC was disapointing) that I do sort of wish he had still done the music.
