I voted that they were ok. Yes the special effects were bad. I didn't like some of the acting and sets, etc. But story wise, I liked them. I think that they have a charm to them that I can relate to the books. My favorite out of them would be SC. I also love the theme music. It has a nice feeling to it.

I like them. I grew up with them. So, I am more attached to them. I like both BBC and Walden's.I don't think I could decide which I like more.

What did you think of the BBC dragons?

I for one love the BBC dragons. DragonEustace is so cute. I couldn't resist saying that. ;))

I couldn't swear to it, but I think my version of the DVD replays that scene in Eustace's bedroom. I could be wrong though.

I watched the BBC version of LWW only a few months before the Walden version came out. We had read it in school and then saw the BBC version. Most people didn't like in my class, but I was happy just to see more Narnia!

I thought Susan looked older than Peter though.

I voted "I detest them" yes they are closer to the book, but the HORRIBLE acting, special effects and what not cancel out any liking I have for them.

Know this is an old thread I'm resurrecting. I was getting nostalgic so I went and borrowed the BBC VDT from the library. I voted that the BBC productions were okay. At the time the casting of Lucy and Eustace didn't fit my idea of the book characters (they actually still don't). But I did like that they were very faithful to the source material. Recently watched a reunion of the BBC cast. Interesting how they all turned out as adults. Fun video to watch.

I detest these... These actually kept me away from the Narnia books when I was little. I was in about 2nd grade and I remember watching LWW at my aunts house. I hated them. I do remember when The Silver Chair finally came out on video, my grandma went and bought it (she was a teacher at a school in LA teaching english to spanish speakers, and she did a whole thing on the narnia books and they'd these and stuff) and I did actually like that one a bit... or a bit more than the others. I remember finding LWW again years after my grandma died and thought I'd give it another shot (I was about 17 now). Worse than I remembered. The bad special effects were even more noticeable.

I read LWW twice in school. Once in second grade and again in 5th grade. Couldn't stand the book because I just kept thinking of the movie during it.

Tried to watch part of the Silver Chair the other day. While I liked the witch (I never noticed the witch from LWW and SC were the same lady till all the fuss about this after the movies were coming out), it was a lot worse than I remembered from when I was a kid.

Yes, I can't stand these movies. I DO however like the theme song at the beginning. I mean I may not have liked the show but it's still part of my childhood watching these and I did like the music when I was little. The music I wish they would have used in the new movies cause I actually prefer it. Loved the whole panning over the map in the show while the music was playing too. So that's the only good thing about it.

Yeah, I didn't pick up a narnia book again since 5th grade till I heard the movie was coming out in 2005. Bought the all in one book on amazon and read them and absolutely loved them :D I was 21 :P I think it's funny I hated the movies/book when I was 8-9 but really enjoyed and appreciated them as an adult... should have been the other way around.

I think when you become an adult the books have a lot more meaning. I didn't really like the versions that much because of the casting. I'll concede that the BBC VDT dragon did look cute, if on the puny side for the sort of dragon he should have been from the book (large enough to be used as a hot water bottle). ;)

Say what you like about the BBC's VDT but there is no green mist, they did Narrowhaven right, Ramandu is in it, etc.

From the Narrowhaven thread.

It also really says a lot when I'd rather watch the BBC version of this scene than Walden's.

It does say a lot. I just had to post it here in light of previous discussions. ;) It seems someone is appreciating the BBC's chronicles more. ;))

I voted "other" because I feel differently about different parts of the series.

I detest: PC - dull story, bad casting, distractingly poor special effects.

I don't like: LWW - an exciting story ruined by the weird costumes, corny music and a catastrophic choice in casting Lucy. Seems like everything she says comes out as a whine. 8-|

I can take or leave: VDT - An even mix of good and bad. I liked the fidelity to the book, at the same time, without the benefit of Lewis' prose the story felt kind of inert and pointless. The adults were very well cast. I also enjoyed David Thwaites as Eustace. Obnoxious at first and endearing at last. On the other hand, Lucy was as irritating as ever and Edmund was wooden. Still didn't like the animal costumes or the music.

I absolutely love: SC - With the exception of the green lady, the cast was top notch, especially the 3 leads. No significant presence of people in freaky animal costumes! Yay! Loved the story. I actually found their visualization of Underland intriguing, although I'm sure Walden would do better.

I personally like them. I don't like the costume design as much as I like Walden's costume design and in general I like some of the actresses or actors better in Walden's but I enjoy watch them.

I voted that "I like them." During my teenage years I used them as a way to introduce Narnia to friends who (gasp) didn't like to read. I just talked to a guy friend of mine recently who remembered seeing the BBC version of VDT at my house and then a few years later decided to read the books based solely on that viewing.

The BBC series, in my opinion, is still useful, though it uses outdated technology. However, it is incomplete. They basically only filmed LWW plus the Caspian trilogy. I wonder why that series was finished though without their filming MN or HHB, let alone LB? I don't mean just the financial side, since BBC already runs on the smell of an oily rag.

Was it because after playing the White Witch, the Hag in PC and then the LOTGK in SC, Barbara Kellerman couldn't go back and play Jadis in London? That is a shame, since I think she would have made a terrific Jadis in MN. Was this the real reason for their stopping the series? After all, even if the ages of the Pevensie children had been a problem with filming HHB and LB, that would not apply to MN.

now that I have seen Walden's VotDT, I like it SO much more than the BBC version! :D it's nice to have a comparison for that one now :D the serpent in BBC VotDT is so (IMO) lame! the new version is so much more epic! :D
