I will say that I loved the Lucy in the BBC. There were a few moments where her acting wasn't a bit right, like the part when she's in PC and calling for Aslan at the cliff, "Aslan,.. Aslan,.. ohh". I felt she didn't give her acting her all there.
I just don't like people excuses of disliking the poor girls looks. It's mean and she was just a kid then.

I really don't think the BBC version should be disliked because Lucy did not look like one imagined her. The acting is more important -- like the issue of her meeting Mr. Tumnus and showing no surprise. It needs to look realistic, not like they are simply acting out a script and forgot to put in any expressions. In that way, of course the Walden version certainly surpasses the BBC version.

I'm not disappointed in the girl herself, just BBC's faulty casting. No offense meant to Sophie Wilcox personally.
I do wonder what sort of direction she was given in that scene - "Are you a faun?" as if she had been expecting to meet one some day!
Why didn't she get told how to react? She got the role out of hundreds of girl actors, so she must have shown good skills in those last auditions!
There, shining in the sunrise, larger than they had seen him before, shaking his mane (for it had apparently grown again) stood Aslan himself.
"...when a willing victim who had committed no treachery was killed in a traitor's stead, the Table would crack and Death itself would start working backwards."
^^ that's what I was wondering! the Lucy/Tumnus scene is so crucial to the story of LWW and that was the scene they really messed up

Maybe the director didn't want Sophie to over react. She did seem to put in a curiosity feature to her eyes though. Maybe she was just playing it in a shockingly manner. I mean it's not every day you meet a mythological creature.

*quickly pops in for a minute*
I'm still working on comparing the two versions I have. I've gotten through PC. I'm making notes so I'll post my findings some day.
About Lucy in the BBC - I agree that Georgie is a far better Lucy than Sophie but I think Sophie did a good job too. I've never had any problems with her. I check the book about the lamppost scene. It doesn't mention anything about Lucy's reaction to seeing the faun. It just state what she sees. She was in a magical land so I can see how she might not be too surprised about what she finds there. Tumnus on the other hand was in his own country and seeing something that didn't belong there so he it stands to reason that he would be surprised. The book is clear that he was.

*Selects non-existent option: "They're so bad I find them funny"*
I watched them as a child and they had little to no effect on me. I watched them as a teen and couldn't stop laughing at how ridiculous the acting and general bad filming was. I didn't get very far in.
^^ that is the very (and only) reason I watch them now. to have a good laugh. GTG and I did it once and were rolling on the floor laughing by the end!
(my sister, who loves the BBC CON, glared at us. )
I really don't like Aslan because he's just a puppet head! it's like mocking Aslan! made me sad.....

I kinda adore them in a way since they are all very close to the book. I still laugh with family and friends about the effects when we watch them. All at the same time you can't help but love them to death.

I grew up with the TV series (late 80's-early 90's) but I never thought much of them, except The Silver Chair which was reasonably well done (especially Puddleglum). The cosy but adventurous theme music was exceptional. The rest was rather forgettable.
That pretty much summarizes my POV as well, except that the series is actually what introduced me to the books when I was growing up. I loved it and would watch it incessantly before I read the books - then once I experienced Lewis's storytelling, I couldn't go back.
Now, I'd say I'm ambivalent toward the series. I love the theme music - it always brings back great memories - and The Silver Chair was the adaptation that stuck with me the most. But the rest I can definitely leave.
"A man can no more diminish God's glory by refusing to worship Him than a lunatic can put out the sun by scribbling the word 'darkness' on the walls of his cell." (C.S. Lewis, The Problem of Pain)
My views of the BBC Narnia series vary based on the series in question.
In general, I do not care for PC and VotDT. Those two were compressed way too much and just did not catch my interest.
LWW can be fun to watch. The production values are paltry, but that only adds to the fun, in a way; seeing the movie make the most of what it has and comparing it to, say, Walden Media LWW is quite fun. The adaptation is faithful, which is good, though the best part is arguably the White Witch, or more specifically, her actress, who (and I say this as a compliment) is hammier than the ham sandwich I just ate. She's just crazy awesome that way.
SC gets points for currently not having any other audio-visual adaptations to compare to. It's also rather faithful, and enjoys slightly better production values and just overall being better quality. All in all, it's quite good on its own, without having to rely on any sort of "camp" factor, so to speak. Not that there isn't some of that, either (as certain other folks can attest to): the Lady of the Green Kirtle (same actress as LWW's White Witch, if I'm not mistaken) provides yet another amusingly amusing performance. However, I think it is Rillian who steals the show, especially Hypnotised!Rillian when he's interacting with the kids with a fair amount of... *ahem* fascination...
...Yep. Gotta love BBC Silver Chair.

I think the worst one was PC because it was, as stardf29 said, way too short. and the duel between Peter and Miraz was so weird! I mean, in the book, the duel is supposed to take place in a set place roped off. but in BBC, Peter and Miraz go on a crazy chase through the tents, crashing into everything and totally ignoring the marshalls of the lists thing.
it was annoying! lol

The BBC PC is the only one I watch if I want to see a better adaptation of the book, but yes it is far too short considering they were combining it with VDT.

^^ granted, yes it's closer to the book.....I will give it that! and the best part of it was Trumpkin
one thing that I noticed a long time ago in VotDT: in the part with the sea serpent, the sea serpent's teeth are loose - they wiggle when he grunts and it makes me laugh
