Okay, I thought this trailer was really great. I am going to talking about the best scene from the trailer and the oddest scene from the trailer:
Dragon Eustace opens an eye and a reflection of Aslan is seen in it. Dragon Eustace appears to be injured as he tries to rise from a sandy shore. Aslan stands not far away.
Hopefully this is the undragoning. These are cool shots. I love this. I can just imagine Aslan's saying the words,''You must let me undress you.''
This is the best scene I saw in this trailer.
Edmund, Susan, and Peter walk arm in arm through a lovely outdoor party. All smiling.
What is this during Lucy's temptation? Or is this Edmund's imagination? What is this? This looks like a scene from a red carpet event.
This is the oddest scene from the trailer. Still not sure what this is.
Ok...the 4th trailer...so, here's what I think.
It is definately the best of all the trailers that have come out so far. The CG effects are much much better done, the quality is better, just everything fits together in a much more ordlerly fashion.
My opinion of the movie, however, remains unchanged. I think I will go in and like half of it and hate the other half, ha!
What do I like? I love Eustace, love the effects, the acting, and generally, on a whole scale, the movie looks like it could be much better done, technically speaking, than both LWW and PC.
However, there are some major things that are disturbing me. First is Aslan. I don't know, but to me he looks a lot worse animated than in either LWW or PC. Something is missing. Maybe he's not large enough (or as large as I expected). I don't know. I'm a cartoon animator myself, as are my brother and my father, and I seriously think he is worse animated than in the other movies...it could be just me though. I do love Liam Neeson's voice, though, so I can forgive that.
I still don't like this whole Lilliandil/Caspian/Edmund thing. When that part started, my sisters and I closed our ears and shouted "Noooooooo!!!!" I'm not speaking against any people who like it, I'm not attacking anyone, I just don't like it.
And this whole "fate of Narnia" "Great Darkness" still bugs me more than anything else. All that to say, this trailer hasn't changed anything about the way I view VDT. I'm still going to go see it, and, although I'm very, very concerned, I'm still kind of looking forward to it.

Just to clarify my earlier post, I wasn't saying I think it looks cheap. I was just saying I think it's unreasonable to say it looks cheaper than PC because PC is was ridiculously expensive.
I think the visuals in VDT look amazing and I can't wait to go see it. I'm not really seeing the cheap/ bad effects. But for those who think it's cheap, it is cheaper than PC so cut it some slack. That was all I meant.
But as I also said, my eyes are untrained so I may think anything looks lovely. I really liked Aslan in PC. I think he looked really good and everyone else apparently thinks he looked terrible So I really like the visuals in VDT but if they were bad I probably wouldn't know it.
Alright. Now that my giddiness has calmed down (a bit) , I can post some criticism. Now I still really like the trailer, and its my favorite so far. However I agree with some of the annoyances brought up here on the fourm.
The editing is not very good, in that the trailer as a whole seems to be a monatge of clips and show no real plot (or a very misleading one at least. )
Most of the shots are stunning, while some underwhelm me. The dragon doesn't look terrible, but it could be a little better (just a little .) Some of the shots are a bit "hazy." Am I the only one who doesn't like the wave? I think its just this trailer, because I liked it in previous trailers/clips. Maybe its the quality of the video. Or the switch to digital.
I'm not digging Reepicheep too much. I know the film is already completed, but I hope the shots look better when I see the movie. I don't know if I like the new voice for Reepicheep. I'll see how I feel about it in the movie as well.
I am just ignoring the narrator- I am sure what he says is misleading. I still don't like the Lilliandil/Edmund/Caspian love triangle or whatever, but I'm getting over it. Coriakin's lines are cheesy, but all the things I like in the trailer just makes get over it as well.
I love a lot of it though. I think they got Reepicheep and Eustace for sure. I liked the lines, "no fear, no retreat," and "we have nothing if not belief." I liked Reep jumping into the water with Eustace also. As well, even though the CGI could use some more work, I got chills when Aslan walks towards the dragon.
I like the shot of Peter,Susan, and Edmund. It doesn't really fit, but I'm excited to see where they are (probably Lucy wishing herself away.) Narrowhaven looks fantastic. I wasn't a big fan of how the ship looked in previous pictures, but I'm loving it now.
Caspian seems to be much stronger as a character here than in PC.
Dark Island is actually dark. The trailer just makes me excited! Overall, I like it very much!

This is the Whitsundays and the Gold Coast you are talking about. I know we are unlikely to get that fab New Zealand mountain scene ... The Gold Coast is too expensive I grant you ...
Need to visit those places someday. Don't forget to throw Whakaari/White Island in there to represent New Zealand - a sister volcano to Mt Doom on the Pacific Ring of Fire.
Gonna have to disagree with those of you who think this film looks "cheap." ... already caught my breath at some of the shots in this trailer.
Big ditto. Seriously impressed. I would not argue how the effects work comes across to the individual is quite subjective - best effects houses in the industry are on the job, so I'm not quite sure what could be improved upon were that possible.
Great trailer.
Edit:
... the trailer as a whole seems to be a monatge of clips and show no real plot
Can't think of a movie trailer that does not do that.
“Safe?” said Mr. Beaver; “don’t you hear what Mrs. Beaver tells you? Who said anything about safe? ‘Course he isn’t safe. But he’s good. He’s the King, I tell you.”
In my previous post I said the shot with Peter, Susan, and Ed doesn't really fit, but considering that that shot is shown after Lucy entre's the magician's house and flips through the pages, it might fit. That is if that shot is from Lucy "wishing herself away."
Does anyone know what the song after 1:22 is called? After Reepicheep says, "we have nothing if not belief."

From the majority of responses here and and at ComingSoon.net (Full Trailer Story), I think that the final theatrical trailer will have just the right appeal for a general audience thinkin about a family holiday film.
I tend to go to the early morning oldies service, consisting of grandparents and retirees, many of them no longer as healthy as they used to be. Maybe some of them read the Narnia books in their first editions, like myself. You should have seen how their faces lit up when I mentioned the forthcoming VDT movie to the minister in the after service line up. It isn't often that there are movies that children can attend which have any interest or meaning for accompanying oldies as well. If the film is as good as the trailers suggests, then perhaps us oldies can happily attend without having accompanying children along as an excuse.
I think the special effects are terrific except for the shot of Alsn and Eustace on the beach...if I just saw that shot and didnt know the context, I'd have thought it was a very well done pixar movie. The rest of the effects were fine.
I think the editing was pretty good until the second half of the trailer. The scenes all looked good, but some just broke the momentum of the trailer.
For instance, a trailer should start out with the exposition (like this one did) and get more and more intense, action packed, and breathtaking all until it reaches the climax at the end (which would be Aslan's roar). This was all interupted by the Lilliandil "NO!" scene (which if it HAD to be in the trailer, it should have appeared earlier), the scene with Reepicheep goofily jumping in the water with Eustace, and the extremely random and out of place shot of Edmund Susan and Peter walking arm in arm. If those three scenes in the trailer were moved, or replaced entirely, it would have been much better.
Anyway, I'm now convinced the Lamb shadow scene will appear when Aslan undragons Eustace. I believe Eustace will be injured on the ground and he will hear a lamb. We then see the shadow of the lamb walking and turning into a lion. Following that shot is the shot of Eustace opening his eye with the reflection of Aslan (in lion form) walking toward him.
Winter Is Coming
The first part of the trailer is AMAZING (that was the clip they showed us in Naples). Wow, so powerful when Aslan roars the water away. Just stunning.
After that, the trailer goes downhill visually. Most of these visual effects shots just cannot be finished (which is odd...the movie releases in a month). DragonEustace and Aslan look terrible.
The major positive is Caspian walking through the streets at the Lone Islands. I hope that's the scene where he walks to Gumpas' office like a parade....but then what's Lucy doing there? Have they already freed the slaves?
I'm not sure what else to say except that it just doesn't look like The Voyage of the Dawn Treader. The LWW trailers looked like LWW. The PC trailers looked like PC. This....looks like HP with cheap visual effects.
There is a huge gap between what this movie looks like and what early reviews are saying about it. It would not be the first time there were bad trailers for a good movie. Fingers crossed that it'll turn out awesome! One month to go...
Ehm, the visual effects of the last two harry potter films were horrible. The dragon looked bad in the shot on the beach, but that's the only visual that I thought looked bad. I actually thought Aslan looked amazing in that scene. I feel like the special effects aren't realistic, but magical, which adds some style and quality to the film.
and I mean, come on, the shots of Dragon Eustace flying over dark Island and the DT sailing towards Ramandu's Island, the shot of the dawn treader sailing at sunset, ... Need I go on? Visually this film looks stunning.
The editing, again, isn't perfect, the lilliandil joke should have come earlier (or not at all ). Now it just came right in between the buildup to Aslan's roar
The only thing I did not like was Lucy asking if reepicheep thought Aslan's country was a real place. That's not what she says in the book at all. In the book she says she doubts you can just sail towards it. I do love reepicheep's answer though! To me, that really is in the spirit of the book.
But overall, I haven't accepted the plot changes, but I've decided not to worry about it as much as I used to. I figured they make it bigger then it really is in the trailer, for the sake of attracting audiences and showing a plot. The extremely positive reviews we have been seeing from both purists and newcomers to the series, really uplifted my expectations to a level were I can look forward to the film again. I mean, if Tirian really likes it that much, it must at least be okay.
And this trailer felt more like VDT to me than the previous ones. Even though it might talk about the changed plot, it also talks about the longing for Aslan's country too. I guess all the great wide shots of the Dawn Treader sailing and the beautifully imagined Islands also gave me the sense of discovery and adventure. So, yeah, I did get all the VDT themes in this trailer. Even though there are some plot changes, I haven't felt this good about the film since the first trailer back in June.
anyway, I'm going to bed. I bet tomorrow afternoon I'll have some catching up to do!
You know, I love how so many people are complaining that the dragon and the talking lion don't look real enough.
I agree with whoever said that ya'll young'ns are spoiled with special effects. I guess it depends on what you are trained as children to look for: I always grew up with the important part being the stories and characters. When we watched movies, my family tends to discuss plot points and character motivations as they were happening. Unless something was blatantly terrible in the SFX department, we rarely looked at that other to point out beautifully shot scenes. But with all the promotion nowadays for 'CGI' and '3D!' and all that, kids are trained to demand realistic effects.
And my final argument that story and characters are more important than effects is three words long: The Princess Bride.
On a different subject, I'm still rather obsessed with the Edmund-Susan-Peter party scene. The more I see it, the more I think Susan is looking like a Stepford wife. I wonder if that's part of Lucy's spell/dream, that the perfect beauty she thought she wanted was fake, that perfect beauty can be kinda creepy. And I still see Edmund's mustache and it's starting to annoy me.

It's kind of hard to avoid spoilers when it's in the form of a trailer... And so I saw it.
I didn't notice anything bad about the special effects, but this is coming from someone who watches very few movies, so I'm no expert. (You see, I've never noticed any bad special effects in The Princess Bride! ) But back to the subject of VDT: I really liked some of the scenic shots of the islands and the dragon flying through the air. Narrowhaven is one of my favorite shots simply because it looks so real.
Another one of my favorite shots is when the dragon's eye opens and you can see Aslan. It's then followed by the dragon struggling to stand, looking like he is dying. While we don't know how far it strays from the book, it tugs at me and I think it will be very moving in the film.
Oh, and another of my favorite shots is the wall of water. It looks much bigger than it used to in other footage. I'm really excited about it.
Is it just me, or are they trying a little harder than the last trailer to make it look like Edmund has a crush on Lilliandil also?
I have a hunch that the scene with the three older Pevensies is the one that shows where they would be if Lucy wasn't there. (To try to make my thoughts clearer, I'm thinking of the scene where Lucy is shown "what would have happened" on the ship.)
On the scene where Coriakin is throwing something: There was a report some time back which describes him throwing lint at Eustace. Don't ask me why he's doing it.
I don't know if anyone's noticed this yet, but if you look at Aslan's shadow in one part, it's the shadow of a human... Is that supposed to be a hint that Aslan is Jesus?

Nice but boring scenery shots.
Oh, how could you? This is the Whitsundays and the Gold Coast you are talking about.
I'm sorry, Wagga. I didn't mean it to sound like I wasn't impressed by the scenery; it is really gorgeous. But it doesn't add much to the trailer and comes across more like filler to pad the length out.
Or, I suspect its the type of person who just likes to complain - either on here or in front of a webcam.
Yes, because no one who disagrees with your personal opinion could possibly have valid reasoning for that. No, they just like to complain.
I don't really have a problem with the effects. Considering how truly terrible they were in the first few bits of footage we saw, pretty much any improvement is a good thing. At least now the minotaur doesn't look plasticy and the DT doesn't look like a bath toy anymore.
(You see, I've never noticed any bad special effects in The Princess Bride! )
That's the point: the special effects aren't bad. But they aren't great either. It's very simply done, not flashy, sometimes things look a bit off. But that's not what's important in the movie; what's important is the characters and story and if the sets look a bit fakey, it doesn't matter.
You don't watch The Ten Commandments because the parting of the Red Sea looks realistic (it doesn't really), but because it's an astonishing telling of the story of Exodus. You don't watch the early Star Trek episodes for the sets or the acting, but because they tell a story of adventure and exploring new worlds and because Spock is awesome. I'm not going to watch VODT to see if they can make a dragon (a mythological creature which can look however you want) look real, I'm watching it for the story. That's why I complain about storylines and character derailment - that's what makes a movie.
