I remember seeing PC and LWW on those entertainment show though. Again I don't know about other people's experiences of the marketing, but mine, along with many people I know (who live in other places) was very limited.

Mine was too, think about it, there was barely any merchandise, and no Super Trailer... Perhaps Fox simply ran out of money to advertise...

Maybe it's foolish to try to stay optimistic with these kind of box office numbers, but the weather is awful in the Northeast and the Midwest. This movie may have plenty of staying power; we just don't know. It could gain steam as word spreads and the weather lets up, and NarniaWebbers can still make an impact with their support. At this point, it doesn't look good, but who knows what the future holds. All I do know is that if these Narnia films are meant to be continued at this time, then it will happen.

It ain't over 'til it's over. ;)

Very much agreed. Thank you for the hope you have given me!

And might I add:

It ain't over 'till "Aslan" says its over. ;) :D

I'm sorry but until we get good news i'll continue to worry until the ultimate decision on the future comes out rather it be for good or bad.

Who would have thought after the huge success of LWW in 2005 that the Narnia movie series would end like this. :(

It's not over yet. We still have to see how the rest of December plays out. Obviously Opening Weekend was a disappointment, but hopefully the film will have a lot of staying power and continue to make decent numbers throughout December. We also don't know really how international markets will receive the film.

--

I haven't seen the film yet, so I can't comment exactly, but I suspect that the reason the film is under-performing, at least in the U.S, is that people still have a sour taste in their mouth, so to speak, from Prince Caspian, and that the film's marketing portrayed it as being too generic, offering no real reason for the general movie going population to see it. I also think that for most people, 3D has overstayed its welcome and has a more negative impact on marketing than positive.

My fingers are still crossed that VDT will rebound in the next few weeks, and we see a Silver Chair greenlight sooner than later.

Not so much a sour taste but bad weather is preventing people that want to see it from seeing it.

Its true that the Dawn Treader is underperforming... but!

VDT started with almost the same amount as the golden compass. Even if the Dawn Treader underperforms in the US, if it makes the same amount as worldwide that golden compass did, we could end up with about 400 million wordwide... :(

Has anyone discussed the horrendous state of the economy in the U.S. right now? With unemployment and 15%-20%, I'm alomst surprised that VDT and any of the other movies are doing as well as they are. Christmas is usually a good time for a movie to be released but if a family of four just spent $50.00+ to see HP last month, Mom and Dad now have to decide whehter to spend that same amount on VDT or on Christmas present, bill, taxes, etc. If that were my choice, I'm afraid VDT would lose out. Although VDT may lose the sprint, I'm hoping she'll finish strong over the distance so that the series can continue. Don't despair yet. As a very special Lion once said, "What will happen is another matter entirely!"

Nothing anyone does gives me the right to be unkind.

PC ended up with a world wide total of 419m and Walden Media was happy with that.

The economy is not that bad. Retail sales are up quite a bit over last year. People are spending money. For reasons that aren't clear right now, audiences aren't spending it on a third Narnia film.

People wouldn't be spending anything if there's a blizzard going on.

Please tell me this blizzard is what's keeping people away this weekend.
