Well now VDT is at $311 million international with $104 million in North America for a running total of:
$415 million worldwide
your fellow Telmarine
I would love to see one of wolfloversk's graphs right about now.
Yeah sorry about that but school got very much in the way
I will be updating them soon though, but I only have the domestic numbers, if anyone knows where I can find the daily or even weekly WW totals for all three movies it wsould be greatly appreciated (If not I might make a bar graph of the final )
"The mountains are calling and I must go, and I will work on while I can, studying incessantly." -John Muir

OK folks, as promised, I'm tallying up VDT's success before the April 8-10 weekend. (Since Box Office Mojo has not updated VDT's earnings for the weekend yet, this information should be correct.)
As of 4/7/2011, BOM reports:
Domestic Gross: $104.367 million
Foreign Gross: $306.6 million
Total Gross: $410.967 million
VDT's rank in most lists hasn't changed as far as Domestic Gross is concerned: VDT is still the #4 Christian film, the #3 Walden film ever, #21 in Children's Book Adaptation, #17 in Live Action Fantasy. It is doubtful that VDT will surpass any more milestones in these categories.
What is more interesting is to look at the All Time Domestic and All Time Worldwide numbers: #430 & #125 respectively.
Looking at the AT Domestic, VDT falls above Daddy Day Care and underneath The Princess and the Frog. If Dawn Treader can muster another $34,000 it could dethrone (overthrow? sail past? ) the Princess, but since VDT was only making between 3 and 10 thousand before the DVD release on Friday, I think it is unlikely. (But I could be surprised. VDT may have already uncrowned the Princess at the time of this writing for all I know. It will be interesting to see the DVD release's effect on the box office.)
Worldwide we are at an interesting place: under 89's Batman, and just $4 million away from #121, just under Prince Caspian at #120. (If Corazon Bandido's reporting checks out, and I'm sure it will, VDT may already be #121) Of course, we all know that VDT needs about $9 million to soundly beat Caspian. Dawn Treader is already $10 million above The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, which had a similar split between Domestic and Foreign. (Quite frankly, I didn't think Narnia 3 had much chance of making it to Mummy 3's position, much less past.) As far as box office is concerned, VDT has officially joined an impressive list of great movies.
With the release of VDT to DVD and Blu-Ray, it is doubtful that North America will be adding much money to the Total Gross. VDT will probably leave theaters in Japan soon, maybe as soon as this week, or as late as a few weeks hence. Will Dawn Treader find the necessary few millions of dollars to surpass Caspian? Since VDT is so close to beating PC's worldwide gross, but so far from PC's domestic gross, is it possible that my predictions that VDT would beat PC, and others' predictions that it wouldn't, both be right at the same time? Could the suspense be any greater? This horse race is coming down to the wire, folks. In a couple more weeks we'll see who wins... It may be a photo finish.
Movie Aristotle, AKA Risto
Thank you, Movie Aristotle. So far, VDT has already beat PC's foreign total handsomely. A lot depends on how accurate Corazon Bandido's estimates for the weekend happen to be. I believe him, and, so far, it seems, so does IMDb. We won't know for sure until later in the week when IMDb updates its worldwide figures. By that time BOM will have also posted its results. As of yesterday I was hoping that VDT would surpass Night at the Museum, another Fox film. Perhaps it might even do better than that.
For the record, IMDb's equivalent totals are:
116. The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian (2008) $418,814,023
117. The Mummy Returns (2001) $418,700,000
118. Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines (2003) $418,200,000
119. Night at the Museum 2 (2009) $414,643,721
120. The Mummy (1999) $413,300,000
121. Batman (1989) $413,200,000
122. The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader (2010) $412,350,363
Now it gets interesting. And I do have a confession to make. For pure mischief, I'd love to see VDT beat PC, even if just by a few dollars.

Right now IMDB is showing:
116. The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian (2008) $418,814,023
117. The Mummy Returns (2001) $418,700,000
118. Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines (2003) $418,200,000
119. The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader (2010) $415,383,624
120. Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian (2009) $414,643,721
So it has surpassed Night at the Museum on IMDB now.
Wow! It has, too. . BOM hasn't updated yet. But it really is going to be an interesting finale. Only three or four million short of PC at the moment, on IMDb.
Will VDT catch up to PC? Will it stop showing? Or will it continue for a week or two?

Oh oh... VDT lost a lot of steam in Japan this past weekend. It made about $750,000 for the weekend. Dropped about 43% from last week. Once movies start making less than $1 million a weekend in Japan, they will only rake in $1-2 more million..$3 million if they can really stretch it. Not so sure that VDT will beat PC now. But I'm still very pleased with how VDT is doing.
your fellow Telmarine
Great to see it soon beating terrible things like the two about the (I miss my) Mummy! No to mention that follow up to that horrible Museum movie!
I agree that Night at the Museum wasn't very good (but it wasn't terrible). I thought the sequel was far superior to the original and enjoyed it more than VDT the movie (let's be realistic - it wasn't very good).
Currently watching:
Doctor Who - Season 11
W4J, I agree that VDT is too ordinary a sort of film and adaptation to be put under the sort of intense, almost microscopic scrutiny it has been subjected to here. I expect the other films with similar results to VDT were also fairly ordinary at least to some people who liked those sorts of movies.

According to BOM as of 3rd April, 2011, it seems VDT's Japan totals are slightly ahead of PC's Japan totals. I'm also glad that VDT did as well as it has already. Last Thursday they had another earthquake/aftershock @ 7.1 and one again on Monday (our time) @ 7.0. These are really sharp to be just aftershocks, and I doubt much more than 2 or 3 mill more can be reasonably expected of VDT's Japan run under the circumstances anyway.
I wonder why BOM hasn't updated their VDT website yet. The foreign total is the one for April 3rd, the week before last. IMDb has udated, as of two days ago. IMDb has $415.3 million or more, and $396 million for Tron: legacy. But not BOM which hasn't updated Tron: legacy from the $398 million it says it got, either. Though the King's Speech is fast catching up.
so we don't know how much the VotDT DVD sales have made thus far yet?

oh well, but i guess the sooner VDT is out of the box office, the sooner we can potentially bring on a newer Narnia movie. It recovered well, so...
a round of applause for VDT in North America
your fellow Telmarine
BOM says the Worldwide is $415,666,410, only about 4 million to go to pass PC
A $104 million domestic total is still pretty weak, especially when comparing it to PC. I'm still waiting for the day where Walden owns up to their mistakes and stops blaming other factors for the low domestic trend that's been happening to this franchise. Make a better movie that will produce great word of mouth. Then you'll have more financial returns!
