Thank you everyone who have a thought for people in Japan.
I live in Tokyo and that earthquake was so frightful.
Tokyo had some traffic problems, not so serious. I just couldn't come home a night.
But North-East area have gotten damaged quite badly by TSUNAMI.
And there are still some smaller earthquakes.
For on topic,
I don't have a positive view for VDT numbers on the third weekend in Japan.
Not only because of the earthquakes, but SP - a new Japanese film - have been released this weekend.
And also the DORA-emon film, opened last week.
Fair point! And I am glad to see that you are well and standing. As for the rest, we'll just have to wait and see. In any case I doubt that moviegoing will be a priority anytime soon in Japan, whatever the releases. It wasn't so long ago that we had the Queensland/Victoria and even NSW floods, after all.
As for VDT, I guess we will have to make the best of a bad job. I'll just be happy if VDT can manage to pass $400,000,000 worldwide soon, nonetheless.
PeaceAndLove, good to know you're ok!
I feel a bit hard-hearted posting this link as worrying about box office numbers in Japan right now shouldn't exactly be a priority. However, that's what this thread is for, and it is relevant to VDT.

Taking a bigger hit will be Fox's The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, which is concluding its successful foreign release (grossing more than $294 million internationally) with a triumphant Japan run.
Since Treader opened in the market Feb. 25, it has raked in about $15.5 million, with last weekend's take coming in at an impressive $4.1 million from 910 venues. The live-action family-oriented fantasy adventure also was positioned to take advantage of Japan's March school holidays.
Thanks for the link, fantasia_kitty. I finally understand why they wanted to release VDT in Japan so late...to take advantage of March holidays, Japan's version of the domestic holiday season.
VDT is close enough to the $400 million milestone that I'm sure it will be able to crawl past. A couple hundred thousand more from Venezuela and the US, plus $2 million or so more from Japan would do it.
After that, I don't think it really matters. VDT has already proved that the Narnia franchise isn't spiraling downwards in box office returns. Right now, of course, the major focus should be Japan's social and economic recovery from this natural disaster.
Earthquake News:
While the earthquake and tsunami have claimed many lives (the highest count has it at 2,000), the actual death toll is very small. Though full extent of the damage and full count of deaths is yet to be determined, there is some very good esential news: http://in.news.yahoo.com/japan-s-quake- ... l-low.html
However, some odd news to go with this. Apparently the earthquake shifted both the landmass of Japan and the earth's axis: http://www.voanews.com/english/news/asi ... 57349.html
I know this isn't directly Narnia-related, but I did think it was important news for everyone.

Just to let everybody know, there is a thread in Prayer Requests on the Japan earthquake/tsunami here. I think news updates on the disaster is more appropriate there, so if everyone could return to box office discussion for this thread, that would be great. Thanks!
Perhaps Fox will re-release the film in areas that have been devastated... Later this afternoon we'll have more info on the international box office. Very curious to see what Japan looks like.
20th Century Fox reported that The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader -- which had been having a triumphant Japan run at the conclusion of a lengthy overseas campaign – managed to draw $1.49 million from 548 locations, with most of the business coming from southern Japan. Treader has pulled nearly $19 million out of Japan since opening there on Feb. 25. The film’s overseas cume stands at $298 million.
From Hollywood Reporter
That means we're at 402 million $ worldwide. The Japanese people are wonderfull.
Sharp drop, but we did it! Kudos to our friends in Japan!
I'm waiting for confirmation from Box Office Mojo before I post another analysis, but I'll go ahead and celebrate with everyone now. Congrats VDT for passing the $400 million mark. This is a huge milestone that should really help Walden convince Fox to make another film. Now the question is: how much does VDT need to make before Fox will green light simultaneously filming two movies?

I'm wonder how much the Tsunami in Japan will affect Narnia there...
