That's pretty good for Japan!
$6,646,094 (opening weekend)
$3,693,906 (opening Monday-Thursday)
4,160,000 (this weekend)
= $14,500,000
Based on these drops, here's my projection for the rest of its run:
Next four days: $ 2,308,800
3rd week: $ 4,908,800
4th week: $ 3 068 000
5th week: $ 1 917 500
6th week: $ 1 198 436
7th week: 749 022
8th week: $468,139
9th week: $292,586
10th week: $182,864
(That equals about $15,094,147, which would put Japan at just shy of $30M.)
$293.6 million + 15,094,147 + plus change = 309,000,000.
Based on that final worldwide projection of 309,000,000, and $104,000,000 from the US, I think VDT will finish at about $413,000,000 (six million shy of PC).
I am finally positive of $400M. Keep going, Narnia!
I'm so glad it's going to beat Disney's Tron: Legacy in the end.
Crossing the 400 million mark is really important. In the 300's you got flops like Prince Of Persia and Robin Hood. In the club of the 400's only boxoffice successes with sequels on the way, How To Train Your Dragon and Clash Of The Titans.
BOM updated the domestic number - $103,994,954. Just shy of $104 million now.
I'm enjoying following the last of VDT's box office numbers, but do we even need to worry about the sequel question anymore?
Correct me if I'm wrong, but based on the "front page news", it sounds to me like funding/talks for the sequel (Magician's Nephew) are officially underway. As in, it's now a done deal or close to it!
ooh cool! go VotDT! go Japan! we can do this!

I'll believe that when it is confirmed, and not sooner. It is good that VDT has again edged past Tron:legacy. But I'd like to see another $7 mill added to VDT's score before I'd start crowing. Maybe not even then.
Good box office results. Great!
Go Japan! And everyone else, where VDT is still in cinemas.

Its pretty much in theaters only in Japan now.. oh ya, and lets not forget Venezuela. VDT dropped 49.9% in its third weekend in Venezuela, bringing in $243,853. Its theater count actually increased slighly, so thats always good news. Cumulative total in Venezuela after three weeks is $1,928,746, which is excellent! Ultimately, we want VDT to make at least $3.2 million in Venezuela, which is what PC did.

At last the 3 million has changed to 4 as of yesterday. Total is now at $104,005,695 per BOM's daily chart. Link: http://www.boxofficemojo.com/daily/chart/
My final prediction for VDT worldwide is around $410 million; either just below, just at, or just over. We'll see by the end of this month.
Then next month we can start following the DVD numbers for VDT.

There is definitely no "a" in definite.
The Mind earns by doing; the Heart earns by trying.
I'm really happy with these numbers. Japan is really coming through so far. However, this weekend will be the real test. Tangled opens up in IMAX 3D. So it will probabely take some of Narnia's screens. That's why I see this ending up with around 405 million, though I would love for it to get that extra 5 million.

That's a pretty big drop in Venezuela for VDT, but after a small drop the weekend before, I guess that it evens out. I'm guessing that it dropped that much thanks to a ton of new releases. Yogi dropped by nearly the same amount. Matching PC's total doesn't look that promising now, but PC opened in quite a few more theaters for some reason.

Sorry, all bets are off for Japan's totals this weekend, regardless of which film is released. A massive 8.9 earthquake has hit north-eastern Japan in the Sensai prefecture, as well as others, complete with massive tsunamis an hour and a half ago. A tsunami warning has been issued for Guam, Phillipines, Indonesia, Papua NiuGini, Marquesas, Hawaii, and elsewhere, including the North-east coast of Russia. If you live in the area, I hope you have had sufficient warning. This warning also broke into our news screenings a little while ago, despite confirmation that we were not anywhere near in the line of fire.
A massive power blackout has occurred in that part of Japan, which has also affected Tokyo. I'm sure that this will affect all releases this weekend, as Japan struggles to cope with this blow, the heaviest since 1995. In fact the earthquake was much larger than Japan has experienced for some time. The Prime Minister has told everyone to pull together and to look out for neighbours etc. Wasn't it only a few weeks ago that Christchurch was also demolished?
Sorry if this is off-topic, Bookwyrm, but I think this post is much too far too important to ignore.

Yes, thanks for the information. My thoughts are with the Japanese people.
