Well, the news is slightly better in Venezuela than first reported:

http://boxofficemojo.com/intl/venezuela ... k=6&p=.htm

Its theater average is better than PC's. For whatever reason, it is on 68 screens compared to PC's 97. Anyone know why that is?

Wow this is much better than originally estimated. It opened higher than TRON, which currently sits at $3.3 million.. which is also better than PC's total.

I also thought the posted numbers for Venezuela were better than initially reported.

What's odd is that today, BOM has updated the domestic numbers for VDT in the daily section, but not the domestic total or the summary. 8-| Today's numbers put VDT at $103,045,000 million domestically.

I'm still amazed, though, that VDT opened in just 2/3 the number of screens that Prince Caspian opened in. Maybe expansion in the near future? In any case, if VDT follows Percy Jackson's (similar release date and genre) box office pattern in Venezuela, 3 million is assured there.

Oh sorry I couldn't provide the link, I've been off the computer for a couple of days. And I've been lurking on BOM for about a year, and I know that that is definitely a credible source, and it's fairly easy to find if you know where to look.

I find it interesting that VDT had a higher theater average than PC. I think VDT will act more like Percy Jackson than PC, because for some reason, PC had horrible legs everywhere. :( So that means if we add another $2.5 Million from Venezuela, we would only need $21 M from Japan. And that should be easy. I expect about $30 M from Japan, and maybe more because VDT has performed well in Asia.

Lets go SC!

Hi 220. :) I think you probably looked at the page before BOM had completed their daily updates. Current total is $103,065,807.

Did VDT end its run in the USA? I could not find it in theatres near any major city I entered today, when I used Box Office Mojo's Showtimes tool.

Actually one of my moderators saw it yesterday, though she was quite certain it would be out of the theater today with the new releases.

Interesting that unless VDT completely bombs in Japan, the international total will be higher than that of PC. Only $5mil more to go!

It's probably out of most first-run theaters now but it's made its way to discount theaters.

I noticed that too. Also the weekly theater count for VDT has disappeared for VDT on BOM. https://secure.boxofficemojo.com/lu.php?3bg Maybe that is BOM's way of getting back at Fox for not giving them the theater count. :-$

But it is still here in our local discount theater and doing well.

I expect it to be in even more theaters this week for the President's Day weekend . The USA is still a very large country and I suspect a number of current theaters are in small towns which still have an old, single screen cinema. :)

Screendaily (via BOM):

Gulliver’s Travels added $5m for $156.9m and The Chronicles Of Narnia: Voyage Of The Dawn Treader grossed $503,025 for $276.3m.

The early estimate last weekend was $275m. Does that mean it made $1.3M this week?

Why so? As for me, I would consider 22 million a total failure. I think VDT has a good chance to beat PC worldwide. It is very possible.

Kind regards,

VDT (or Aslan and the Magical Islands =)) in Japan) would have to make more than $40 million in Japan to beat PC's worldwide total... possible, but unlikely.
