Some not-so-cool news: Disney just announced that Tron Legacy is coming out on home-video on April 5th. That's three days before Narnia 3 comes out.
http://www.blu-ray.com/news/?id=5876

Of course, it had to be the same week 8-|

I don't think this matters really. Both movies already had there theater runs. Whoever planned on buying Narnia will still buy it. If they didn't plan on it, then they won't. Same case with Tron. It's not like theater run imo. :)

Well, it probably means VDT won't ever open to #1 on the DVD charts, but other than that it doesn't really matter much.

Check out "The Magician's Nephew" and "The Last Battle" trailers I created!

The Chronicles Of Narnia: Voyage Of The Dawn Treader opened top in Venezuela on a dazzling $425,000 and the overall tally has reached an outstanding $275m.

Well, PC opened to $767,641 in Venezuela. I hope it can find good legs. :)

About the DVD: doesn't Harry Potter release around April 5? I guess early April is a typical release date for Nov-Dec films. :-

Yes, Nov-Dec films do tend to come out in DVD about Mother's Day.

Well, it probably means VDT won't ever open to #1 on the DVD charts, but other than that it doesn't really matter much.

Unlike Tron, it is more likely to end up in school libraries etc as well as public libraries, for its relevance to C.S.Lewis as a literary figure. That must count for something.

Thanks for the valuable piece of information! This is exactly what I was wondering about. Now the big question is whether Venezuela box office trends mirror the North American box office... in other words, do winter movies have better legs than summer blockbusters?

Hard to tell in Venezuela since it is close to the Equator, which passes through Ecuador and Brazil, Venezuela being more on the north side. In the tropics the temperatures tend to be hotter at the spring and autumn equinoxes, when the sun is directly overhead at the Equator.

I could wish that Venezuela result was a bit better. :(

Boxofficemojo.com says:

I have absolutely no idea how good this is. How did the other ones do their opening weekends there?

Depends on what day and how many theaters VDT opened with in Venezuela. Maybe we'll know more tomorrow. Oh, and MagiciansNephew1, I can't find where that is on BOM, could you please provide a link to it. :-

Nex weekend here in the USA I expect to see a boost in the theater count for the President's Day holiday weekend. It will be interesting to see the results from that extended weekend and how close it puts VDT to $104 million. $-)

Also, I think that the DVD revenue fron sales and rentals will be fine in the long run, no matter what comes out the same week or before or after. :D

So I was alarmed to find out that Tangled has yet to open in Japan! I am worried that VDT will be competing head to head with Tangled.

According to JapanToday.com, Tangled opens in Japan in March. And IMDB says that it opens on March 12.

@GlimGlum: the post in question on the BOM forum is here. Just search for 'narnia' on the page and you'll find it. :)

Thanks, 220. :) That still wasn't an official BOM quote; just someone on a BOM forum quoting Screendaily. :-o

At any rate, VDT did officially reach $103 million yesterday with $40,514.
USA domestic now at $103,021,565. :) (Looks like Valentine's Day is good for movies. :D)

Thanks for the update, GlimGlum! :)

MA said the BOM source was someone quoting Screen Daily - which we can't access because we need a paid subscription. Check this post and the one following it. viewtopic.php?f=2&t=2331&start=912#p141745

Actually, giving credit where credit is due, it was Magician'sNephew1 who found the quote and Narnian1 who mentioned it was from screendaily.
