Speaking of box office, does anyone know how much VDT's earned this weekend fo far? I haven't heard of the numbers in a while, so I was just cuirious.
And also, VDT might be "kiddish" in some ways, but really, it's more likely 8 to 10 year old than younger. That sea serpent is not what I call preschooler friendly, and like looking at a skeleton of a lost lord and stuff like that is for preschoolers? So, yeah, it might be kiddish, but there's some things that definitely pull it up from 4 year olds, which would more likely watch Yogi instead.
So are you saying kid's can't handle a sea serpant? Toddler's can only watch movies where everything is all nice and dandy and the main characters are never in any danger?
Please. Disney's animated G movies have scenes that are just as intense as the sea serpant scene, if not more. Most 5-10 year olds could certainly handle the movie.

BoxOfficeMojo has their Friday estimates up, but VDT isn't listed. All we know is that it most likely made less than $311,000 on Friday.

Apparently, VDT isn't making enough money now to receive estimations anymore.
I guess we will have to wait for the official tally, when they update Narnia's actual page. Narnia's foreign gross from holdovers is pry going to be in the 2 million dollar range. I'm hoping it will hit 270 by the end of the weekend, but that doesn't look likely. Sadly Japan doesn't open until the end of February. Which means that Narnia will pry have stopped making money in most other countries by then. I am worried about such a late release date. Japan and Venezuela are the last big hopes for it to reach 400 million.

If by toddlers you mean anyone under the age of 5, then, yes, I would not want them to watch anything that could subject them to nightmares. I know many parents would feel the same.
You're missing the point, though. Most parents who saw the first two movies are aware that The Chronicles are more appropriate for older kids (somewhat intense battle sequences, scary looking creatures). Knowing that, they might be more likely to choose the cuddly bears of Yogi than Narnia (definitely not talking about quality here!).

It could very well hit $270 million by the end of the weekend. If it drops by 50% from last weekend, that's a $2.3 million weekend, but don't forget to factor in mid-week grosses.
I think the part where that slavetrader wants to stab Eustace may be even scarier and less toddler-friendly than the sea serpent. At least a sea serpent is clearly fantasy.
Ditto for the part where the slaver holds that dagger up to Eustace's throat.
And a few other nightmare fuel scenes.
Not for little kids. But it is fine for tweens. And PERHAPS for mid-childhood. Perhaps.

Well, if the estimated hold, Narnia VDT has passed Journey to the Center of the Earth, making it Walden Media's third highest grossing movie domestically, below only the first two Narnias.
Great
When the foreign markets are updated we should be very close to the Worldwide Gross of Golden Compass.
And it passed by quite a bit! It was not a scrape of 10,000 bucks or so. It is over 100K. And by the end of the week, it will likely be at 102M. And by the end of its run, it may reach 105M. Which is close to 68% in domestic revenue alone.
Dear Fox and Walden Media and C.S. Lewis Estate and everyone else involved:
The news are good. Money talks. Narnia is productive. PLEASE greenlight The Silver Chair.
Thanks,
Yours truly.
I really really hope this is enough to have SC greenlit!! I can't wait until Fox/Walden gives us some news about what they are planning to do. I'm am so excited (and worried.)
I am also very happy that VDT managed to pull through, especially after such a poor start.

HAS NARNIA PASSED GOLDEN COMPASS??? This was just put up on the Narnia facebook page...
Box office update: Through January 30, "Dawn Treader" has earned an estimated $373.6 million worldwide. The film opens in Japan at the end of February.
If this is correct, than we really do have a shot at PC's numbers if we do well in Japan... would that be an overexcited estimate, or does anyone else still think we have a real shot at PC's worldwide take???
In the grand scheme MOVIES ARE NOT IMPORTANT, people are important, Love one another and treat eachother how we would like to be treated ourselves!

In order to match PC's worldwide take, VDT would have to make about $45 million in Japan. That's a long shot, but it's possible, since LWW made about $60 million there.

The news might be better than that. Assuming 50% drops from this point on, and you get an additional $5 mil at minimum in current markets (including the US). Add in Venezuelas's probable $4 million gross and you're looking at $9 million more before Japan, so it would probably take $37 million or so in Japan to equal Caspian's gross. Not sure that I would bet on that, but at least it's possible.
