It has to make $400 at least! Like $100 domestic, $400 worldwide is a nice round number. Its like how 2.99 still feels like around $2.00 even though its only one cent from $3.00- if you get my analogy. :p
For me that is the lowest it can do and still be considered a success.
Hopefully DVD sales will add a little (or a lot) extra as well.

Yeah, still I hope it makes 400 (and more) theatrically, because the decision of green-lighting SC rests with the theatrical gross...

I've seen the movie 9 times!!! (PC)
I've seen the movie 7 times!!! (VoDT) And loved it!

I guess I'm a little confused as to what the foreign numbers that are being quoted mean. Is that 4.5 million reported from foreign markets specific to this week with an additional 5.5 million being reported from certain markets as an update from weeks back? (Is that what you mean by holdover markers?)

The box office numbers worldwide have slowed to a trickle. If my calculations are correct, having Japan & Venezuela bring in exactly what PC did (the last remaining worldwide markets) will have VDT come in at exactly $400 million worldwide.. This is cutting it VERY close!

Should be a little bit higher than that it. It stands at 368.2 million right now. Add in the 31 million combined that Caspian did in Japan and Venezuela and that gets you $400 million. However, it still has about $10 million left to make in holdover markets (including the US). That should bring it to $410 million. I also think that it'll gross a little more than Caspian in the upcoming markets, probably not enough to pass Caspian's worldwide totals. though.

MOD NOTICE:

Not to be Johnny Rain Cloud or anything, but I've noticed a distressing amount of substanceless posts over the last few pages. To be brief, posting posts that are essentially nothing more than "Yay! Awesome!" and some smilies after every single update to the box office totals is borderline spamming. Please try to get some discussion into your posts, please. :)

Maybe that has something to do with the fact that VDT just passed a major milestone. Sorry, I just don't think it is wrong to post excitement over that! It's not like it is nearly as bad as that countdown thread. ;)

Anyway, just so I don't get accused of posting a substance-less post I'll just go ahead and predict that VDT will end its run with a domestic total of $104,683,421.

Check out "The Magician's Nephew" and "The Last Battle" trailers I created!

Hear, hear! ;) We're excited about making $100M. There's nothing wrong with that, and it's a lot better than the VDT movie-smashing that goes on in the other forums.

FON2, that total seems about right. Honestly, now that VDT has crossed $100M, I wouldn't be disappointed if it never makes another domestic dollar. #:-s

You might want to browse the rules again then. ;) And for the record, I've been noticing substanceless posts for awhile now, since at least halfway through this thread. It isn't a recent trend, but I was hoping it was one that would correct itself. Since it hasn't and seems to be getting worse, you get a mod notice. As for the countdown thread, it isn't a good example to cite since I wanted it closed and was overruled. :P ;))

The spamming rule does make sense. But I think at some point, it should be acceptable to be able to post some excitement regarding the steadily increasing box office results, especially since they are vital to the future of the Narnia franchise. Unfortunately, this is sure to get me a mod notice. I too will watch my posting much more closely, so I apologize. But I just thought I should voice my concerns too.

Anyhow, based on this weeks theater count, it looks like this past weekend and coming week will be the last week that VDT is considered in 'wide release'. This upcoming weekend is sure to put VDT at below 1000 screens, which is the minimum threshold for 'wide release'. Brace yourselves Narniawebbers, we will soon be approaching VDT's last theatrical gold rush .. discount theaters.

I think, basically, what Booky is saying, is that there is a difference between a "yay, it made money!" post and a "oo, look, VDT passed this particular milestone. I'm so happy!"

Consider this: is it interesting or informative to read a few pages of mostly "yay!" "huzzah!" and "woot!" posts? (really overdramatizing on my part, but y'all understand). Are they mostly dittoing the posts previous? If they are, then they aren't really adding something. They're just fancy "I agree" posts. If they are building on each other, and creating a discussion, then they are legit posts.

I'm going to disappear back into the murky purple, but one last note--don't take it too hard on us when we post in-thread reminders. If you don't think your posts deserved that note, we probably weren't talking to you. :)

I guess it all depends on how you look at it. I'm ecstatic that VDT recently crossed the 100 octillion mark in binary.

In all seriousness, though, VDT had a fine weekend. It dropped 42%. PC dropped 42% as well, and LWW dropped 38%. VDT is staying on par with it's Narnian peers.

And, this weekend was BETTER than Prince Caspian's. I believe it made a few hundred thousand more.

I wish it wasn't losing so many theaters so quickly. I tried to go see it this weekend and couldn't. I believe that it will end with around 103 million. I was hoping for 105 million, minimum. That is after the first few opening weeks. Does anyone know about how much we can expect from the discount theaters?
