I just saw the movie and was very sad to see that just over half the theatre was full. At the same time, there were two theatres running the movie and my local cinema. I don't know how full the other one was. I hope it was full!

I am dying for this weekend to be over so we can have some numbers!

Half of me doesn't want to see numbers cause they won't be good and the other half wants to see the numbers to see cause they are good.

Here in New York i went to see it. The Theater was about 1/3 full. Nobody clapped at the end to. I would have started it but I was by myself. However they were also showing a 2D filming. overlapping. However, the theater was generally sparse, and a lady who worked there told me that it has been that way for the past few weeks. So the number of people inside of the Narnia was actually pretty good.

1/3 full isn't gonna help though

45 million opening weekend can be either good or bad. It all depends on how much it drops on its 2nd weekend. If it only drops 20-40% then that's good because that's a small drop. If it drops more than 50% like Caspian then we have problems. If it drops more than 60% then we are in big trouble :(

remember PC was up against competition though.

Yeah I agree that 1/3 full is not a great thing. I was just trying to look at the bright side. If the theater had been packed and it was 1/3 full then we would have a bigger problem. it would mean that people were just not interested in seeing Narnia vs. not watching movies at present. Thus the legs for this could still be good. Though Tron coming out and getting a fresh rating, plus the 51 percent rotten tomatoes score could hurt the legs. Also Yogi bear as stupid as it looks, could sink Narnia further.

Rotten Tomatoes makes no difference imo. Look at how good transformer 2 did compared to how bad its RT was. Yes its two different franchises but i just wanted to bring up a point.

Yeah I agree Rotten Tomatoes doesn't make that much of a difference. Still it could have some effect. More importantly is competition to this film. Tangled is still taking some of the child demographic. Tron and Yogi with the PG ratings will take some more next week. It seems like there is a cluster of movies, all pg, all 3D in the next few weeks. Kinda unwise for the studios. They should have spaced them better.

I hate to break it to everyone, but the report at boxofficemojo is that it's estimated that Narnia's Friday numbers are under 10 million. This means that it will probably make 35 million at best this weekend. :(

Things are not looking too good.

I just saw that, FriendofNarnia2. A $35 million opening weekend looks to be the best case scenario now, and even that would be considered a pretty big disappointment. Everyone on BoxOfficeMojo was predicting so much higher, the average number in the Derby was about $45 million.

Same thing happened with PC though. :|

Unless these numbers go up, it's probably over. The Narnia franchise is most likely finished, even if it has strong legs in its run, because the studios judge films by their opening weekend.

Quality of the movie aside, I wanted VDT to do well, darn it. I wanted to see SC adapted to the screen with good production values at the very least.

And the franchise had such a promising start too... :((

This is so much worse than I ever thought VDT would do. I had assumed that the 3D would help negate lower ticket sales.

Golly...a $26 million opening weekend? :-o That's about how much Prince Caspian made on it's SECOND weekend. If that number holds, VDT will be a box office bomb.
