Just got back from vacation.

Good to see VDT doing so well this weekend! It is outpacing LWW once again. Only a 23% drop compared to LWW 37% drop. Very nice! :) If VDT can keep up with LWW's drops from here until the end of its run it will make 120 million domestically.

On LWW's 4th weekend it went up nearly 30%. We'll have to wait and see what VDT can do.

mmm... This is intriguing... I've been graphing it on Excel and the VDT graph is catching up to the PC one at this point in time...

Hey, those are some cool charts! You should keep those up! I'd love to see them in a few weeks!

Great charts, wolfloversk! Wow, it is depressing comparing LWW to PC. LWW was making bucketloads of money during the holiday boost while PC was making next to nothing. The way the VDT graph looks is great, though. If only, if only VDT had had a better opening weekend. xD

I hope VDT keeps doing well.

I feel like crying right now due to its low Sunday. OK, so every.single.film did poorly on Sunday. Gee, I wonder if the blizzard is to blame.

Hopefully the studio will take this into consideration. That, and how well it is doing worldwide- even with the weather issues. Finally, the DVDs do make good profits.

If SC does not happen, I will throw a temper tantrum. OK, so this may be more of a sensory overload meltdown and/or panic attack due to triggers and flashbacks...but I would still be upset due to not getting my way.

Yeah, in this case I definitely think the weather had something to do with Sunday's numbers! NYC was basically snowed in. That's a LOT of people that couldn't go to the theaters.

But did they get to the other cinemas, snow or no snow? I would have thought that if weather was a factor it would affect all shows alike, regardless of what pictures were showing.

Yeah snow pretty much destroyed all of Sundays earnings. Fockers was overestimated by 4 million, lol. Tron, dropped about a million. Pretty much all of the movies were overestimated.

Oh yeah, ALL movies did poorly on Sunday. Way below estimates. All due to weather.

Shows in Florida and Texas were sold out- but if NYC and most of the East Coast was snowed in, that affects A LOT.

Hopefully Fox will keep this in mind when reviewing numbers when proceeding with SC.

I don't know how the earnings will turn out, or even what it was for, but today as I was driving home from Christmas vacation, I saw my local theater had a packed parking lot. In the early afternoon! That doesn't happen much around here.

I don't mean to be a jerk, but what's the statute of limitations on blaming snow for VDT not doing well? Has it been repeated so often that its become a reflex? There was snow all over the US in December 2005 and LWW did well WITH ABSOLUTELY NO 3D TICKET PREMIUM.

If the DVD/BD doesn't sell that well next year, are we going to resurrect the same excuse? Or will we blame rain and humidity? Road construction? Bad layouts in the entertainment section of the store? Just thinking aloud. :D

Also, those graphs are somewhat interesting but someone needs to adjust the dollar figures for inflation. The average movie ticket today costs more than it did in 2005 and 2008. Or, forget dollar values and go with number of tickets sold.

Anyone have the theater count for this coming weekend? Or the weather forecast?

Well, you, are are the main person that keeps on mentioning how well LWW did despite snow everytime someone brings up the weather. So since you keep bringing this up let me address it. The truth is that I to was alive when LWW came out and while the weather was snowy, there was not a blizzard hitting some of the biggest cities in the United States. New York, and many other cities on the East Coast are snowed under. That fact is that ALL the movies have dropped drastically. Also it's not just Narnia fans blaming snow for the drop on Sunday. On the Box Office Mojo boards people are saying the same thing. In fact they were predicting on Sunday morning that once the actuals came out we would see big drops across the board. They were right. Obliviously snow isn't to blame for all of Narnia's failings, or it's bad opening. However, it's boxoffice run has been plagued by extremely bad blizzards in many European countries. Now we have one in the U.S. These are facts, whether you choose to believe them or not. Weather, if bad enough, can effect how many people go to the movies.

Yes, but was there a severe blizzard back in 2005? I do not recall there being so. I remember going to a party on the night of the day I went to see LWW at the theatres. I was wearing a short-sleeved dress, regular hose, and a shawl. The night before I went to see VDT this year, I wore to another party a long-sleeved sweater, a long skirt, long tights, and a jacket- and still was cold. I live in West-Central Florida. So yes, there is something unusual to be taken into consideration.

But I am still very upset and want to cry.

EDIT- I just read that 400 people were stranded on a train in NYC as a result of the blizzard. I am nowhere near as miserable as they must be. But would still like VDT to be doing better so that SC is made.

Well if it makes you feel any better, the future of the franchise does not depend on the Sunday gross. Most of the people that would have gone on Sunday will probably just go on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, or whenever they can next week.

But having said that I am convinced that the storms had a dramatic effect on the box office. For an unexplainable reason most movies dropped about 15-20% more than they should have. Also, it is a fact that a large portion of the US population is on the east coast (where a lot of the snow fell). People in those areas did NOT go to the movies. Period. Exclamation Mark! :)

I'm not sure what all the fuss about Sunday's numbers is about. VDT only dropped 1.4% on Sunday, which is really good, and one of the lowest drops of any movie this weekend. Saturday is always the biggest movie night of the weekend, and Sunday is generally the lowest. The fact that VDT only made about $50,000 less on Sunday than it did Saturday is a good thing. A lot of movies over performed their predictions this weekend as well. True Grit, Black Swan, The Tourist, Tangled, and VDT all did better than predicted, depending on what predictions you look at.
