Everyone here does realize the theater count drops Friday, right?

yes, we mentioned that. But it only drops 205 theaters. Not bad at all!! Very goo theater hold. It shouldn't hurt it in the slightest- given that it's Christmas weekend as well ;)

Wow what a small drop! Who decides how many theaters it drops? Is Fox losing faith in Gullivers Travels?

No, Gulliver's Travels is supposed to pick up 400-500 theater's next weekend (New Years Eve/Day).

To say that Gulliver looks horrible is an understatement.... And Gulliver's Travels is a book I really enjoyed reading. So the movie disappoints me very much and I will not go watch it.

This. I agree with this wholeheartedly! I think the book is great and couldn't wait for the movie, until I found out Jack Black would be in, and it'd be a modern comedy. A travesty to the book IMO. I wish Fox would leave this alone and dedicated solely to Narnia this winter. But alas, they decided to open two major movies within weeks of each other. No idea why they would do this [-(

Losing only 205 theaters is fantastic!

BTW, here's a calculation I did that is quite encouraging.

VDT made about 52% of what LWW on its second Thursday. Between now and the end of next weekend LWW managed to make 84 million. If VDT could keep up with its drops like it has been doing then that would mean VDT will make nearly 100 million total by next Sunday. (97 million to be more precise)

So it is possible that VDT could be close to 100 million by the end of next week!

Boy I wanna be optimistic, but those calculations are too good to hope for I think. Gotta take it more slowly I think. Although that would be fantastic, I don't see it's holds being THAT good. :(

Well, believe it or not VDT has actually had better holds than LWW so far, so why would it stop now? I'm not getting my hopes up too high, but I have to admit, that does look good.

Not to be a downer all of a sudden, one thing I will say. VDT has great chances to reach, maybe even go past, Eragon's and Golden Compass's final grossed by the end of next weekend (Sunday, Jan 2). :)

I would be surprised if it didn't reach those heights. And that alone would be great news. I expect $80 at most by next Sunday, Jan 2. ;) Of course I could be wrong and you right with your $97m estimate. :)

I'll be pelased with anything above $80 as well. But we can always hope for better. :D

Yeah, I mean that would be good too. I'm just saying that it isn't out of the realm of possibility that it does a LOT better. :)

Personally I think it will land somewhere around 85-90 million by then.

I definitely think this has a very good chance to cross 100 million. The only thing that worries me is Gulliver's Travels. It's the last chance Fox has for an over 100 million domestic film this year other then Narnia. If it opens strong I could see Fox dropping allot of Narnia's theaters to keep Gulliver running longer. Also I think today is going to be pretty rough on Narnia because it's Christmas eve. I see less of it's target demographic being out at the movies tonight. Hopefully, though, it will have a strong Saturday and Sunday.

Yes, Christmas Eve will particular harsh on family films, but it should do very well on Saturday.

And I for one am not too worried about Gulliver's Travels. I think it will struggle to make 15 million its first weekend.

Well, Romania is the latest country where VDT has passed, not only PC's final gross, but also LWW's final gross. According to BOM:

LWW: $202,155
PC: $191,708
VDT: $237,329

Though again, this isn't a big market. Big Markets all go to LWW still. Will have to hope VDT at least reaches PC in those countries.

EDIT: VDT overtook Yogi Bear based on early Friday BO numbers:
4. Narnia 3D/Dawn Treader Friday $2.3M
5. Yogi Bear 3D Friday $2M

I'll leave the rest for the comparisons and calculations for another to do, along with the drop from last Friday.

According to Deadline's prediction, VDT will finish 4th this weekend, bringing its domestic total up to $66 million. Great news :)

$16 million for the weekend would be insane after a $2.3 million Friday. That would mean what, a $5.5 million Saturday and $8.2 million Sunday? I would't complain if that happened, but that would be far, far more than LWW's increases. All VDT needs to do is make $12 million over the next four days to match LWW's drop. Shan't complain if $16 million happens though...:P

At this point, all I want is for VDT to reach at least 60% revenue in the USA and Canada so that it is not considered a flop. PC had around 71%- which is actually very good.

Now I wonder what made Tangled SO expensive. "scratches head"

And this movie version of Gulliver's Travels is not very pleasing to my eyes/brain/stomach/heart. Makes me want to heave :-s
