I would be sad to see the remaining 4 not made. i'm still hope they do.
The foreign boxoffice is up-to-date
Foreign: $123,656,000
By the end of opening weekend it had around $81M in foreign markets, it opened in most countries I believe, if I am wrong please correct me. If it's at $123.6 that means it made near $42M, which is just about a 50% drop. Gotta hope it can keep going to pass PC.
narnian1,
It hasn't opened in all countries yet so there is that possiblity of it picking up more overseas $$ wise.

I know it didn't open in all, but like I said I believe in most it has.
But it's still got a few, including Japan- which is a very good market for movies.
I say, you all seem to be a bit Pessimistic about this, it still has a ways to go, and is actually doing quite well overseas, and in it's second weekend it held better then just about any other fantasy films.
Look Here
Lion,witch Wardrobe second weekend: $31,837,683 -51.4% (2005)
it also held Better then Percy Jackson, Harry Potter 7 Eclipse, the last airbender and Clash of the titans. I know it's a lot smaller then most to start but.
I think there is still a lot of hope for SC It only needs to make about 300m ww to break even and it will probably end up with about 335-385.

hmm.. this is all such a shame.. i really hope we still get a SC adaptation.. its my favorite book in the series, and Will Poulter is an excellent Eustace!

Keep in mind that even though Japan, Russia, Mexico and UK are big foreign markets, they are still a fraction of the North American box office. Japan might bring in $20 million if VDT does well. The other markets won't bring as much. But even at that, $300 foreign is still possible.

OK, this includes weekday grosses. For the weekend alone Narnia was lower but kept other movies from the top spot, including Tron (which is in less markets).
Crimped by severe winter conditions in Europe, foreign box office was soft on the weekend with 20th Century Fox's The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader finishing a mild-mannered No. 1 with $29.9 million grossed from 61 territories.
A Germany opening provided the third title in the Narnia series $3.1 million. International cume stands at $124.4 million, nearly triple the film's domestic take.

I am so sad right now! I was gonna go to my local theatre with a friend and see VDT this Thursday but it looks like this particular theatre won't have VDT by this Wednesday! I can't find it listed on the thetre's website after Tuesday! It's not on Fandango.com. It looks like it won't be playing in my town at all after Tuesday Now I have to go to the next town to go see it. It's like a 30 min drive, so it's not too bad. But can this really be happening?!?!?!?!? How often is it that a theatre drops a movie after only a week and a half??????
I know VDT opened lower than expected, but I thought it was still at number 3. I was wondering of you all who understand the box office better than myself can explain to me why this theatre appears to be dropping VDT which is newer, yet keeping Deathly Hallows.
As many of you know, VDT opened horribly in Australia, which is one of the biggest international markets. Well, it appears that VDT might at least be saving face there with some reasonable holds. I must admit that I don't understand the chart below completely, but there is still a chance that VDT might catch up to PCs totals, which to me is great. I got this from the box office mojo forum:
Narnia Showdown
- Is there any other movies that should be added to this vs chart ?
N1 vs N2 vs N3
1: 6.6m/15.5m vs 4.4m/4.4m vs 2.6m/2.6m
2: 3.9m/23.9m vs 2.3m/8.8m vs 1.8m/5.6m
3: 2.4m/28.6m vs 1.2m/10.5m vs 1.3m/8.0m
4: 1.5m/31.6m vs 0.6m/11.5m
FINAL: 35.2m vs 13.8m vs 8.0m
In a very clear indication of how well this Narnia is holding up, Narnia 3 managed to post a higher weekend number than the previous entry and is now beginning to catch up on the 2nd film. It will be an interesting race. I did start this post as a joke, but as it's turning out, it could get interesting if Narnia 3 can reach Narnia 2's total. Of course the first narnia's total is way way out of reach.

For anyone that may be confused about the chart posted above, hopefully this will help.
The first column of numbers is the amount made on that particular weekend. The second column of numbers is the total after the end of that week. So on LWW made 6.6 million on its first weekend, and 15.5 million in its first week.
Week 1: LWW 6.6m, 15.5m
PC 4.4m, 4.4m
VDT 2.6m, 2.6m
Week 2: LWW 3.9m, 23.9m
PC 2.3m, 8.8m
VDT 1.8m, 5.6m
Week 3: LWW 2.4m, 28.6m
PC 1.2m, 10.5m
VDT 1.3m, 8.0m
Week 4 LWW 1.5m, 31.6m
PC 0.6m, 11.5m
VDT ?????, ??????
FINAL: (LWW) 35.2m, (PC)13.8m, (VDT) 8.0m

So I had a thought.. VDT original budget was $140 million until Fox decided to give VDT a post-3D conversion, which pushed the budget to $155 million. So what is the financial verdict of this decision? Was the extra $15 million worth it (from a purely financial standpoint)? Will Fox only make back what they invested for 3D? Or will they not recoup that cost? Or will that ultimately help VDT?

Prince Caspian dropped out of my local theater after just two weeks, and PC was making much more money than VDT at that point in its run. So yes, it can happen.
I know VDT opened lower than expected, but I thought it was still at number 3. I was wondering of you all who understand the box office better than myself can explain to me why this theatre appears to be dropping VDT which is newer, yet keeping Deathly Hallows.
Well, it depends on how well the tickets were selling at your local theater, not nationwide. If people in your town weren't buying tickets for VDT but they were buying lots of tickets for DH, the obvious choice for the theater is to dump VDT and keep DH.
I know this thread is for box office, not advertising. But the two are twins!
EDIT: I moved my posts on advertising to this thread. viewtopic.php?f=2&t=2431&p=124141. Enjoy!

Good point about second weekend, EdmundPevensie18. Trying to stay positive, VDT is doing better after 10 days than Eragon or Golden Compass which finished at:
Golden Compass Domestic Total Gross: $70,107,728 http://boxofficemojo.com/movies/?page=d ... ompass.htm
Eragon Domestic Total Gross: $75,030,163
http://boxofficemojo.com/movies/?page=d ... eragon.htm
Also, the week before the holdays here is usually the slowest. Most people I know who haven't seen it will be going during the holiday period. And it should do better then so there is still a chance for $100 million USA domestic. Who knows, maybe 3D and its higher prices are actually hurting VDT since hardly anyone is raving about the 3D version.
