omp! wolfloversk, I too am scared to be happy, but I want to be happy as well.
Ok I'm just going to be cynical and say it won't work out. I don't want to be dissapointed, but its hard to be cynicla at the same time... 8-} :-s :-s :-s :-s :(( 8-}

Guys we have to spread some good word of mouth! I know a lot of friends who are planning to see it next week. If its like that for many people, then there is hope. :-s...

Sorry if this has been posted already, but this comes from Deadline.

Fox management will be glad to see 2010 end. Narnia 3 didn't get much of a Saturday kids matinee bounce domestically. A weekend opening of $40 million would have been a home run for the studio restarting this fantasy franchise. Instead, Fox has only the low end of what it wanted for a 3D film. But "the real story of this movie’s performance may well be the multiple off its opening and not the opening itself," a Fox exec emailed me Friday. "Word of mouth about a great family film will serve us well as we move into the holidays." And foreign could save it. Fox tells me Narnia 3 has already done $105M with international, "a very good start". Its budget of under $150 million, with Walden still the co-financier, is nearly $100M below the second film. Plus Narnia 3 was shot in Australia, New Zealand, and the UK because of tax and currency conversion reasons.

Well I don't know if this has much of an impact, but the ACT was on Saturday, and I don't know about every teen, but after I took it (I didn't take the December one) I just wanted to sleep for the whole weekend... This is the same for my friend, I asked her to come see the movie with me, but she said that she cleared her weekend for the test... So that might have effected the teen demographic?

Honestly, I am not worried about how well Voyage is going to do. :) The numbers seem pretty good to me. :D

Fox said it succeeded in its aim of resurrecting the franchise, and was “excited” about its overall prospects.

Wow, if Fox really meant what they said (that and the other cheery quotes on this page), that would mean:
1. Great happiness for all Narnia movie fans
2. Fox had really low expectations for VDT - maybe not quite this low, but still!
3. I really have no understanding of why they okayed such a huge budget. Maybe that was before the low expectations?

Fox thinks it has ressurected the franchise? :-o :- :-

Ok, it is way to early to be happy, it really is. I'm actually shocked Fox would say that. I would think they would be crying their eyes out with these kind of numbers.

So I'm happy about this but skeptical, and to avoid disappointment, I'm being pessimistic.... :-s :-s

This is what I am here to talk about. I am surprised they would say this, based on domestics numbers. But thankfully they are looking at the big picture, worldwide. Too early to be overly optimistic but I can't help but not be as depressed as I was. Keeps hope alive in me. :D

Hopefully the actual numbers will be higher than the estimated ones.

I truly wish I had time to see it a third time today. But it is impossible.

At least we debuted at number one. And hopefully we will still be number one next weekend- though Tron and Yogi Bear have me worried.

I truly wish I could go again today. Really, I do.

I did see the movie for the third time today. I saw it in 2D friday, and 3D on saturday and Sunday. I really wish the opening had been a lot bigger. :( My pre-weekend prediction was $35-Million, and I thought I was low balling it. I am seeing it again on Thursday for the fourth time. I MAY see it a fifth when I go home for the holidays with my family.
I think what we need to do is see it next weekend when Tron opens becuase if Tron does significantly better (which is is predicted to do) then all of Nanria's 3D screens will be cut and given to TRON and other 3D Christmas releases (YOGI - which looks HORRID).

The ONLY thing that can save the narnia franchise is decent hold overs. We need to see it on the next weekends. The next three weekend's holdovers are vital in saving the franchise.

The quotes make me less nervous about the fate of the series.

Just want to add, let's not forget about things like school field trips during the week (I know that a class in my nephews' school is going to see it this week). Also, I haven't even seen it yet, since my parents and I HATE seeing films on weekends. And I wonder how many youth groups will see it? (The youth group I was a part of in '05 went to go see it together about a week or two after it opened). And maybe more people will see it once holiday vacations start.

I'm not saying this will save the whole series, but let's not fool ourselves into thinking that absolutely no one is planning on seeing it and the money will completely tank.

Apparently it has done well though -

... treader.uk

This is the official UK page and it says it took number one spot for the weekend!!

When I read this I thought it was saying "UK" - can anyone comment on this please?

There, shining in the sunrise, larger than they had seen him before, shaking his mane (for it had apparently grown again) stood Aslan himself.

Just because it took the top spot in the UK doesnt' mean that it did well.
It took the #1 spot in Canada and the US and didn't perform well in either country. I hope it did well in the UK though! That is a potentially large market.

Do you think that the North American Box Office performance could be PARTIALLYdue to the fact that this was just a slow weekend. None of the movies seemed to do particularely well.
When do elementary and highschools get out for the Christmas Holidays? This will hopefully liven up the box office as a whole (and hopefully Narnia Ticket sales).

I can't cite the reference at the moment - reported that the month of November has not been this slow since 1995. That said even with Harry Potter pulling down what it did.

“Safe?” said Mr. Beaver; “don’t you hear what Mrs. Beaver tells you? Who said anything about safe? ‘Course he isn’t safe. But he’s good. He’s the King, I tell you.”

When will BOM update the individual countries for the foreign box office? I'd love to know the numbers! And guess what? Australia raked in over $5.5M!
