This is the estimated box office earnings for the 10th:

It's #1, but numbers were low across the board, which is quite odd, I guess we shall have to wait a while until things make sense...

PC was by some people a flop looking how it did domestically and here we are with DT. Just cause it may have a bad start doesn't mean it won't have a great finish. Even if Disney didn't drop the franchise it wasn't decided until after PC left theaters that DT was gonna be made.

Yea i haven't seen it that low before there's usually a few that tend to be above 10m

The pundits out there have noticed the weekend was brutal overall on the box office.
Interestingly, the company I work for had its Christmas party last night. Very shallow turnout compared to previous years.
Is it something in the air?
Conspiracy?
Movies that left folks kinda uninterested?
“Safe?” said Mr. Beaver; “don’t you hear what Mrs. Beaver tells you? Who said anything about safe? ‘Course he isn’t safe. But he’s good. He’s the King, I tell you.”

It'll be interesting to see how things pick up in the next couple weeks.
I'm sure books will be written about this whole mess when it's over. At least those will be entertaining to read.
LWW: $8,857.01 | PC: $3,875,91 | VDT: $622.86 |Total: $13,323.32
Further to the stats in your siggy, which I presume are the Aussie Box office first week figures, quoted elsewhere, today's Sunday Telegraph posted the first week takings of VDT as being $3.8 million, only slightly behind Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, at $4.5 m. VDT was followed by Due Date at $1m, and the rest are much lower, even Megamind, which has already started here. Devil was the least popular on show.
At least in Australia, VDT is about par with PC, or only slightly behind it. Not bad despite the absence of advance bookings and no public holidays until Christmas.

No, those stats are referring to how much money in US dollars Griffle has spent on merchandise for each Narnia film.
The Chronicles Of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch And The Wardrobe - $6,642,424 (or $15,453,995 7-Day or $17,133,740 8-Day - 419 SC)*New Years
The Chronicles Of Narnia: Prince Caspian - $4,354,099 (415 SC) or $5,864,000 (5-Day)*Queen’s
The Golden Compass - $3,999,031 (or $5,628,762 5-Day - 327 SC)
The Chronicles Of Narnia: The Voyage Of The Dawn Treader - $2,631,521 (448 SC)

Aha! Here's the right quote (abbreviated). I left the Golden Compass because it, too, was released on Boxing Day, in Australia, the prime release date here. It still does not alter today's VDT's Sunday Telegraph figures of $3.8 million for its first week. The Australian dollar is just below the US dollar in worth. And VDT is second only to Harry Potter.
I must say that I am completely shocked.
For the past few weeks, I’ve been having an internal battle over whether to see VDT or not, considering I hated the idea of all the changes. Not once did it occur to me to factor in ticket sales. In my mind, it wasn’t even an issue. I knew VDT was hanging on the balance but I really believed it would pull through. I didn’t think it would do spectacularly awesome, but I figured it would do just about as “good” as PC.
Now that I see the numbers are tanking…..I will see it after all, in all it’s 3-D glory, pushing aside my adaptation fears, just so I can do my part in helping the series stay afloat.
Now, my initial thoughts being said……
We need to be realistic about this. Yes, it’s bombing at the box office right now. But it’s only the first few days! Not all hope is lost. I know movies nowadays are expensive but I think everyone should at least try to get themselves and their families to the theater at least twice this month to see VDT. I’m aware people are saying it probably won’t work, but I say it’s more productive than just sitting around, gripping about how the narnian world is over.
At the same time, don’t get your hopes too high and don’t be surprised if, in spite of all our efforts, the series plug is pulled.

mm1991,
Glad to hear you are gonna catch it in theaters, in 3D no less, and I agree with your second half. We gotta try, even if we fail, rather than just sitting back saying it won't work. But we also gotta be realistic and be ready for either outcome.
I've seen it twice already. My parents are already talking about seeing it a second time as well. I myself plan on seeing it at least once more, but in 2D next time- (it is my third watch after all)

well we do know that Walden media won't make their decision on how it does based on the domestic #s alone. Well it may do bad in US but that doesn't mean it won't do bad internationally.

So far its international performance is on par with its domestic performance.

I agree with some of what is being said on there. The marketing for this movie heavily relied on people remembering the first film that came out 5 years ago. They didn't push it to stand on it's own two feet as an individual film.
[P.S. - LWW is on ABC right now! Maybe that will generate some interest? )

But we only have #s from a few countries though so just cause it may not be good in a couple countries doesn't mean it doesn't do bad every else.
Things are dismal right now, but not without hope. Let's keep in mind to continue to promote the movie. After all, reviews are overall positive.. Especially with hardcore fans. Sure $25 million opening is horrendous (no matter how you spin it), but if it drops very minimally in consecutive weekends, it can still save face. Kind of like how there were weeks where LWW hardly dropped at all. I know it's difficult but we can't just give up yet.. It's only been out in theaters for a few days!
