And guess what, in a vague sort of way, Harry Potter does, too. Surprise! Surprise! After all the hoo-har about having the books banned as anti-Christian . Getting back to these 'Christian' movies, why aren't the old famous Christian movies included in categories of Christian movies? You know the ones: The Robe, Quo Vadis, The Ten Commandments, or Ben Hur? Now these were real movies, epics as well. I wonder what happened since then?
Heh, completely forgot about Harry Potter, but you're right, they do. I love that J. K. Rowling put them in there. It's fun for the fans whenever people start raging about the evils of Harry Potter to mention those elements and watch the detractors get all shifty and uncomfortable.
I think the difference between those grand old epic movies and today's Hollywood is that the industry has become so commercialized. It's not about art anymore, if it ever was. It's about churning out as many generic, lowest common denominator films as possible in a year to make a ton of cash. Yes, it's an industry, but when a field that once thrived on creativity is now using formulas to produce movies that all look alike, there's a serious problem. I think people are tired of that though. This last year in particular, so many of the films that were generic and formulaic did the worst, while films like Inception that tried to do something a little different were raved over and did surprisingly well. It's my hope that if SC is made, they'll have the guts to stick with the book, instead of trying to force its story into the typical action/adventure cliches. It's not like they can do much worse than VDT's box office.
And I've probably drug this wildly off-topic, so back to that.
