Yeah, you're not the only one confused. I'm not entirely certain whether they're referring to the book or the movie there. It'd be nice if that was the movie, but I'm not holding my breath that Eustace's transformation has survived intact.
Just from those short quotes, I can already tell Gael is going to be annoying. Seriously, Lucy needs encouragement from a pint-sized sidekick to pick up a weapon and fight? Queen Lucy the Valiant? Remember that little detail? Lucy fought in full-scale battles when she reigned with her siblings over Narnia. Why would she need "encouragement" to do the same in VDT? I'm going to glad to see Lucy go at this rate, no more cute little Lucy friends.

Possibly the encouragement is to use Susan's weapons, not to use weapons in general. After all, Lucy has a sword and, I think, uses it to fight the slavers on the Lone Islands. However, if she has had that experience with the beauty spell where she became Susan, she might be wary of 'trying to be Susan' by using her sister's weapons.
Maybe? Who knows, and honestly I don't totally trust these articles to be particularly accurate anyway.

Then again she might just be hesitating when Gael encourages her, which would be perfectly logical considering that she is only 13. You can't judge it until you see it in context.
I was under the impression that the encouraging took place when they sent to Dark Island. If that is the case, in the book Lucy was visibly scared at that point. Even the strongest of us have moments of weakness. Sometimes encouragement comes from most unlikely places.
^^ yes exactly! very good point!
I found no problem with it, in fact I am encouraged to know what Gael is going to be doing in the movie! question is: where does Gael go after the Dark Island? she's not in Aslan's Country. I am really thinking that she drowned when she jumped overboard in that clip we saw ages ago.....

I think she and Rhince are just reunited with her mother and live happily ever after...

Obviously she stays on the boat with Rhince, her mum, the rest of the rescued Narnian slaves, and all the other crew members who don't go as far as Aslan's Country.
^^ right.....well, you are most likely right.
I just want to know what she's doing when she leaps off the ship!

I am ok with the change.
1. It makes Lucy seem a little more human. Being the youngest of five kids, I can really relate to feeling overlooked and less than everyone else. I think I may be able to take something away from her struugle in VDT.
2. I don't think it's a bad idea that they have her turn into Susan and "wish herself away". The more I think about it, the more I like it. They didn't lose the point behind it. In the book, she feels jealous of Susan and wants to be more beautiful than her. In the movie , she feels jealous of Susan and wants to be her. Either way, they convey the message that Lucy is jealous of Susan and feeling overlooked. That's a small change, in my opinion. The thought behind the action is still evident.
I disagree. I don't think it works with Lucy's character. I think she would have only struggled with jealousy to the point of deep down she feels jealous. I had a feeling her character in the book made it so, it would make more sense if she never said anything out loud about her jealousy. There are some girls in this world would say outloud that they were basically jealous, but that is not Lucy. Otherwise, her jealous would have effected her life other than just wanting to be more beautiful than Susan. You would see almost a foreshadowing in the book most likely if this was her character. Plus, there are way too many movies where the person in the story wishes someone away and it doesn't belong in Narnia.
thing is, I know what it's like to want to look beautiful, to want to be pretty even though I am just the way God made me and I am fine that way. Lucy is coming of teenage age and is going to notice those kinds of things, especially living under Susan's shadow with Susan being "the pretty one of the family" as the book says. so it makes sense. and since she is tempted to want to be beautiful in the book, they are just giving a plausible reason for the audience to believe in the fact that Lucy would have a legit reason to be tempted in that way.

In a movie it's harder to depict inner thoughts on a movie. I think, if it's a deep down thing it's ok to make it a little more obvious for the film adaption. You can disagree if you like. Please, it makes the forum interesting.
Edit: That's a good point, Libby. In the book, Lucy is much younger. Georgie is at the age where girls tend to be more concerned with looks. I think this may be where Lucy would've been if she were the movie age.
Seeing the Lucy/Gael connection, maybing Gael jumping off the ship and drowning is Lucy's nightmare that will take place on Dark Island. Then once the Dark Island is destroyed, Gael and her mother will reappear with all of the other victims of the place.
Winter Is Coming
I can't wait to find out how they're going to explain years worth of people who were fed to the Dark Island Doom Resort still being alive and sane.
Well what would be creepy is if the crew discovered the floating dead bodies of all the people who have been fed to Dark Island. Of course since they are trying to keep it PG rated, I'm more likely to bet on the victims of Dark Island being alive.
Winter Is Coming
