[Closed] Narnia TV Show

With the flurry of controversies about the lack of a faithful adaptation and the slight possibility that the seven books might not be theatrically adapted if VODT fails financially, my thoughts wandered to the idea of a Narnia TV adaptation or miniseries. (Think Frank Herbert's Dune by ScyFy)
First, I noticed that TV adaptations are slightly more faithful to the source than their movie counterparts. I said 'slightly' because they are still examples of bad TV adaptions like Legend of the Seeker. However, if the TV series is driven by people that love and enjoy the series for what it is, I don't think this will be a big problem. Second, while obviously a TV adaptation will not have the quality or budget of a film adaptation, a TV show will play right into the strong hand of the Chronicles, which is the writing and characters. Less emphasis on flashy effects and big battle scenes equals more room to focus on the characters and story. Isn't this what fans want? Also, visual effects in TV shows have vastly improved over the last couple years. I'll doubt we'll be seeing any walking human beavers like the BBC Narnia. Finally, with the extended length of TV series, a TV adaptation can delve into more details of the lore of Narnia more than a 2 hr. film ever can.
Sure there are plenty of flaws that might come with a TV adaptions like the lack of beautiful vistas/scenery, but to be honest, I never felt that's what the Chronicles is about. Narnia was never meant to be "epic". As said before, it's the characters and allegorical stories that have made Narnia popular, and in the right hands, (maybe HBO?), this can work out. What do you guys think? Hate the idea? Love it? You tell me. :D

Note to Moderators: I wasn't too certain whether this belonged here or not. Feel welcome to move it if you believe it's not the right place.

hmmm... i dont know. I mean, i just don't see that being highly likely in this day and age. it's all about all-out blockbusters. it's a fantastic idea, however, and could be perfect for this series!

I actually heard a rumor about four years ago about Disney Channel turning the chronicles into an animated tv series. Seriously do not know if this is true and can't remember where I found it, but what I do remember was that they were going to wait to make all of them to do that. But since this franchise is already over with Disney IDK if they will do it. Plus I wouldn't want them to. Imagine them adding things to Suspian as if it was some immature fanfiction show. ew :|

If these series bomb they can always be remade in 15-30 years from now. ;)

I think it would end up looking more like fan fiction than anything. If it was in the the hands of someone who actually cared about the books, I still don't think the fans would be pleased, unfortunately. I believe, it's like what I said in another thread. The books left enough up to the imagination that we all have something different in our minds, different things we get out of the books, different views of how everything should look. I think it is impossible to put something on the screen that will please all the fans.

A miniseries would be cool. Like what the BBC did, only with good special effects and better acting.

The only problem if they made a tv show is now a days they would want to keep it going for ages longer than it should. So, they would add stuff, that most of us wouldn't want in the tv series. At least if it wasa made in America that is.

I would not want Disney to turn it into an animated series, that would probably be horrible.

If there was one thing that was good about the BBC version, it would be that it left most of the story and characters intact. No Suspian, no fancy plot of magic swords saving world, no constant recurring of the White Witch etc. Sure, the effects and costumes were cringe-worthy, but that aside, you have to realize that they were on an extremely limited budget and honestly didn't have much to go on as this was all prior to the ground-breaking LOTR. Admittedly, the series hasn't aged well over the decades but it was made in 1988-1990, so that's understandable. A LOT has changed over the past 20 years for TV adaptations in terms of visual effects and good writing. It won't be the same.

I think it would end up looking more like fan fiction than anything. Like the current theatrical adaptations don't feel like fanfictions? We got Caspian kissing Susan, seven magical swords that are needed to save the world, and dozens of changes that sounds straight from a badly-written fanfiction. Yes, I doubt that any adaptations will ever satisfy all Narnian fans but as I mentioned in my original post, TV adaptation plays more to Narnia's strength than not. A good budget and a experienced team that not only respects, but understand the source material could probably do more than any theatrical adaptations can.

Also to clarify, when I'm talking about a TV adaptation, I was thinking more in the line of real actors etc and not animated.
