I will be going to see VDT for Eustace, Reepicheep and The End of the World. As for the rest of it, remind me to bring ear plugs and a blindfold! %-(

Eustace, Reepicheep and End of the World will not disappoint. They are excellent, as is the rest of the film.

Well, I can understand why they would be
more concerned about Eustace then Octesian, for one thing they have never
met Octesian so they have very little emotional attachment to him, where as
Eustace had been with them for weeks and even if they didn't really like
him it would be much more disturbing to find that one of your shipmates had
just been killed moments before than to find a skeleton of someone who has
been dead for who knows how long that you did not even know.

I can understand their concern for Eustace, but the WHOLE POINT of the
original voyage was to find these Lords. It bothers me that they hardly
care when they find that one of them has died.

For those of you who saw the film... how much hype was there about Aslan's country?

Not that much, actually. The most buildup they give is really what Reepicheep says to Lucy on the prow of the Dawn Treader (and that clip is already available online). All the focus is on the green mist.

But there's no excuse for anymore love triangles! On the bright side if Liliandil's part is small...then that means that Ed/Caspian/Liliandil is small.

It's practically nonexistent. It only exists as a one-time gag, and if you've seen the trailers, you've seen all that it consists of.

Oy, Thanks a lot, MinotaurforAslan! You make the movie sound TERRIBLE!

Well, sorry for being honest. :p The movie isn't all bad - the themes of redemption are still there, and the Christian themes are as strong as ever. But in order to do this, they invented a strange villain of which no explanation is given except that it's "evil" and concocted a whole new plot to serve the themes, which shoved the original plot off to the side. At times, it just didn't feel like VDT to me.

But they were not really disturbed in the book when they found Restimar, or when they thought Octesian had died on Dragon Island, why should they be all disturbed in the movie.

It's not a matter of being disturbed. It's a matter of caring at all. The ENTIRE REASON the Dawn Treader set out in the first place was to find these Lords. In the book they aren't disturbed, true, but they at least acknowledge the Lord's death for longer than 2 seconds. Reepicheep laments, "How are we going to avenge them?", etc. In the movie, Edmund and Caspian seem to only care about the swords. The only amount of pity towards the dead lords given is a brief line by Lucy at Deathwater. But then the focus is lost the very next second when Edmuind starts his greed speech about gold.

Hmm...I suppose this fits here, yes?
I haven't seen the film, but I'm 'reviewing' the book and the spoilers together, 1 chapter and the relevant spoilers at a time. I feel kind of wierd posting it here because I otherwise never post here, but I thought you guys might appreciate it more than most.

Interesting and thoughtful MementoMorrie. Thank you for sharing. Your question posed at the end of the next review (Day 3/4) is spot-on. I suppose there are lots of ways to speculate about it, none of them in a very satisfying way. Fortunately, the movie does not hinge on this question, at least for me. I hope you will find the movie to be good enough to overcome that flaw.

Thanks for the reviews!

I just have to ask this-- hope it's okay. Does the movie have the line "Courage, dear heart?" I do hope so; that is my favorite line in the book.

"Lucy, have you seen this ship before?"
"Yes! It's very Narnian-looking, isn't it?"

I honestly cannot remember if that made the film. But, I was not looking for that quote either. Perhaps Gymfan would remember. Sorry to be of little help to you with that.

I did not hear the "Courage, dear heart" line. However, the albatross does appear. Why it does, without saying the line, I cannot tell you!

I'm pretty sure he did say "courage dear heart" by I honestly don't remember.

I do remember not liking the telepathic delivery of Georgie's line.

Okay. Glad to hear there is still the albatross! I really really hope that line is still there. :)
But if not, at least it's still in the book. :)
Thanks, guys!

Thanks for that review link. I was most interested in this quote:

"If anything, though, it feels almost as if too much has been shoehorned in; so vivid are many of Lewis's tableaux that you are barely given time to linger before being whisked on to the next. One moment we are peeking into the invisible mansion on Coriakin's island, the next we are gawking at the gruesome contents of the lake of gold."

This just makes me wish it were a 150 minute film.... :D

And the comment about Will's portrayal, LOL =))

I have just opened the "I've seen the movie" forum where you can discuss the movie to your little hearts content. :) Please keep all spoilers in that forum and ONLY in that forum until early January when we merge it back into this forum and CCD. I'm going to go ahead and close this thread now. If you haven't seen the movie yet want to keep discussing reviews, you can do so in this thread here.
