And FYI, I really dislike the idea of Polly/Digory romance, crush, or anything similar. For one thing, what would we even call it? Dilly?
Haha. Well they could call it Pogory, but that sounds even worse.
Maybe they won't need to tell the story in flashback if the traielrs do a good job of showing that the movie is a prequel.
Winter Is Coming
The only thing we can be certain of, if the movie is made, is that the story of Charn will be embellished. And I'm okay with that, as long as it's done well.

I'm not sure how much they could embellish it though. The book describes rivers running with blood of the slain armies, just showing that would be difficult in a PG movie. I've no doubt though that we'll see the destruction of Charn, I would be shocked if they left it as only dialogue.
By embellishing the material, I meant filling in more of the details, rather than showing more violence. That scene will require a PG-13 rating.

Ahh, my mistake. I thought you meant extended battle scenes like they've given us in the first three movies.
I'm sure they will have a cool special effect for when Jadis speaks the Deplorable Word. I don't know how they would do it, but I don't want them to turn everyone into stone. I want the people in Charn to sort of freeze a bit and turn deathly pale (think icy bodies from Titanic), but not become stone.
Winter Is Coming
^I think that they will simply vanish, or maybe turn to dust. I imagine we'll get some sort of shock wave that will destroy all life in it's path. Speaking of which, do you think we will hear the deplorable word? I don't exactly want to, but how are they going to get around it, by bleeping it?

My guess is that the film will show the battle of Charn with Jadis's voiceover narrating the events. The battle will be shown up until Jadis's sister says "victory!" and Jadis says "Yes, victory. But not for you" then right after that moment I think the scene would then shift to Jadis speaking in the present and giving a long pause. Then she would say to Digory "Then I spoke...the Deplorable Word". Right after that we cut back to the battle and see the effects of the spell take place in Charn.
Winter Is Coming
I've always actually pictured MN starting in Charn, with the Deplorable Word scene. No voiceover or anything. Then after, focusing on what happens soley to Digory and Polly. Like the Prince Caspian movie started in Narnia, not England.
If they did that, they might not have to do the storytelling. Charn is a whole different world from any of the other books. So set up right, the audience will know right away that MN is different from any of the other Narnia books/movies. Even if they don't know ahead of time it's a prequel.
Of course, I may just be saying that because I want the story-frame idea for HHB. It's more of a legend, not the adventure of children from London.
LessThanGold, hmmm. That's an interesting idea and could work well. The only downside is that there wouldn't be the element of mystery when Diggory and Polly themselves, enter Charn and encounter Jadis.
Josh, I pictured something similar.
Dinode, I don't think they would vanish but they would probably turn to dust. It should be a very intense scene, both physically and emotionally.

I would rather it start in England, because as Warrior said, the strange, mysterious, creepy feeling of finding a ruined city with an intact wax museum. And also I think it would take away some of the feeling of a Prequel if it started in Narnia.
^But it's not Narnia, it's Charn. But I think you're right, England is a better place to start the movie.

Also the movie isnt about Jadis that much so starting the film in Charn would set the wrong tone to the movie. The Magician's Nephew as a whole isnt a dark story, just Jadis. Which is why I think the fall of Charn should be told in a flashback format.
Winter Is Coming
Hmm....
I see what you mean by it starting MN off with the wrong feel and the mystery being taken away. Now, this is probably baised (since I haven't seen many movies or shows with flashbacks, and the majority of those I have are sitcoms) but my opinion of flashbacks is that they are very, very often corny. Very. And I really don't want that happening. (I am completely open to anybody soothing these doubts.)
Flashbacks do work well in mystery movies though, when they are explaining how the the crime was done. I haven't seen many other movies that use flashbacks though.
