[Closed] MN Locations

How do you want/hope the sets and locations of the MN movie to look? Whether it's a building or a country or a street, etc.

For the great Hall in Charn, where they first meet Jadis, I was thinking something kind of like this (only more ancient and run-down) --

What do you think?

Also feel free to post pics of what you have in mind for this place and other places. ;)

Good topic. :)

I need to go back and reread the bits with Charn cause I always pictured it from an earlier time period (maybe Gothic with Egyptian and Roman influences?) than the one you liked above Ithilwen, but I love the grandeur of the place. :)

Here's about how I picture the Wood between the Worlds, only with puddles instead of one big pond. ;) And probably no park bench either. ;))

I like this picture better only I envision it during summer instead of fall....

Oh this is fun!

Let's see...for the Wood Between the Worlds I kind of pictured it looking something like this painting, only there would be pools in there somewhere.

and for the Charn ruins I was thinking something along these lines...

Something like this would be nice for the western wilds

Great topic! I've always been looking for a thread where I could post some idea pictures of how I think certain scenes should look in the films. I have a special folder for stock photos that I've collected for various film landscapes.

Ithilwen, I love that picture for a basic idea of how the Hall of Charn should look, obviously as you stated, it would have to be more run down, since it looks a bit lavish for historic ruins. ;)

For the Wood Between the Worlds...

I happened upon this stunning shot, a photomanipulation that someone created for The Wood Between the Worlds. It's pretty much how I always imagined it, since the forest colours are all so rich and the landscape is simply beautiful! I love how all the pools have the stone ridges around them and the water looks so mysterious, almost as if there is another world there.

For Charn, I always saw it as a very bare and desolate world, so would think it might look something like this:

Your Charn looks great Quinlin! I looked for a while before I found a Charn that looked right because all the ruins I found pics of didn't have very high walls still standing. I finally found a painting by Raphael Lacoste called "Sunset in Babylon."

I actually like the unfinished tower for Charn, showing the suddenness with which people were destroyed.

@The Lady Arwen Undómiel, (do you have a shorter nickname you prefer? ;)) ) I love your Charn. Love it love it love it. I hope Charn in the movie looks exactly like that. Only more crumbled obviously.
@Quinlin, that's awesome you found a picture someone did of The Woods Between the Worlds. ;))
@FriendofNarnia2, yeah, that's how I pictured the Western Wilds as well. :D

Quinlin, I love the picture you found of the Wood Between the Worlds. I think if the trees were a little bit bigger it would be perfect! And like F_K said, Arwen, I would be so happy if Charn looks like this! (I really hope the filmmakers are reading this thread and get some inspiration)

Quinlin, that picture of the wood between the worlds is astounding! I would be so happy if that's what it ended up looking like. It's perfect.

Ah, fair Quinlin, I believe you have hit it on the mark! :D

Fantasia Kitty, I like your first one too. I always pictured the trees in the Wood to be more straight, instead of branching out. And that's what the first picture kind of looks like. :)

What about Digory's house? Does anyone have any specific view on what it might look like?

^^ Ooh! I like that, Anhun! It's complete with lampost and all! :D I can just see Digory sitting by that window, watching for a sign of the witch.

Perfect Anhun! I even imagined it having a little fence around the front yard! Fantasia_Kitty, you can shorten my name to LAU. I know my name is really long.

From the outside the Alhambra looks a lot like the palace of Charn might look.

The Kaghan Valley in Pakistan looks much like the valley with the blue lake.

The Wood Between the Worlds? I don't like the dead branches.

I found two valleys I liked as the Valley of Narnia; I think the first is in Ireland and the second in Scotland.

Lol, Ithilwen. I had forgotten the significance of the lamp post. Here's a view of the street at night. I can picture the commotion with Jadis, Frank and the constable better in this shot.

It's in London, in case you were wondering.

@ Arwen: I love the Kaghan Valley shot. Very Narnian.

Oh Anhun you captured Digory's place exactly. I don't know what part of London that is, but it is just perfect for Jadis' return to Aunt Letty's place. I also like that photoshopped Wood between the worlds and hope someone is sitting up and taking notice.

For my ideas of how the interior of Charn's palace might look, I thought of this:

If that is a bit too colourful, try something like this:

Buckingham Palace or Windsor Castle do sound suitably grand, but they are all too familiar I fear. The guides (and one of them is on duty in Ithilwen's picture) will tell you how those gorgeously painted ceilings inspired not only JK Rowling's 'Fluffy' but also the Greek/Roman mythological topics depicted also inspired C.S.Lewis' Narnia. :D ;)

I liked the idea of Sennacherib's Nineveh palace, though I thought that Charnian pictures could be substituted according to how Pauline Baynes' illustrations suggest. Bas-reliefs might be another idea to line walls, especially in that banqueting hall.

This is where I got the idea of pictures coming to life or at least to completion. The idea is to show what sorts of things the Charn royalty had been up to when Polly and Digory have that guided tour.
