I'm afraid I have to agree with nearly everyone, all those lines are horribly cheesy. And a great deal of them are much too modern. What I found especially cheesy was when Gandalf(I mean Edmund) falls off of Orthanc(whoops, Miraz's castle) and lands on the eagle(oh, it's a Gryphon).
Oh, and when that guy on a horse is running through the woods and there's these guys dressed all in black chasing him and then he crosses a river and the guys fall off in the current. Where have I seen that before? Hmmm.....
Oh wow, Daughter of the King! Didn't think of any of the Gandalf/Edmund thing! (as you can see, I'm not sure what to think!)
Well, I did catch the part of the guy on the horse running through the woods, the river, and the guys falling off in the current. I've tried to count and see if there were nine, but it goes too fast.
I agree with Rising_Star about the modern dialogue. That's what made a lot of the lines cheesy -- such as the one I mentioned about "You've got to be kidding me." Then, as before mentioned, Lucy says "Omigosh," and then it continues. I think the kids needed to have more proper etiquette or something than they did.
I 100% agree with Rising_Star, every singe word! And my whole family groaned over the Edmund/Gandalf thing, and the Caspian/Black Rider deal too. Also the kiss (one of the most horrifying, deplorable and freak-out worth scenes I have ever witnessed!!!!) was seriously cheezy. It's like, what could you do to make the movie worse?
To be honest, I don't even remember the "Brace yourselves" line... But then, I've only seen the movie once.
And what about "Susan the Warrior" and her fancy-shmancy Legolas copied- *gasp* did I say copied, not inspired!!?? -fighting? I mean, who agrees that Legolas has one of the coolest fighting styles in any movie they've ever seen? Robin Hood and all other things bows and arrows geek here, but honestly!? However, if you compare Susan's twirls and stab-bad-guy-here-then-fit-arrow-to-string-and-shoot-bad-guy-over-there thing to Legolas... Well, then instead of "Warrior Queen", we get either "Fan Girl of Legolas who wants to be just like him", or "Poor Girl whose Stunt Coordinators didn't have enough time/creativity or were not paid enough to make it worth giving her originality." BTW, what happened to "Queen Susan the Gentle"? That one change in itself I thought was cheezy. It was a poor attempt at getting shallow teenagers to be interested in *you know the word that makes you cringe without really being dirty* Susan. I heard the shallow teenagers saying- "Looks like Susan's gonna be- *you know*" Also, it was a sorry way of letting Susan go with a bang. Look, I thought her costumes were cool too, Anna was beautiful, she put such grace into her fighting- nothing against her! But everyone else who had to do with the development of her character...
But to me, not only were many many lines in PC horrid, so were the SFX! I was SOOOOOO disappointed in the CGI! To my horror, when I recently re-watched the old Star Wars trilogy, some of their special effects WERE BETTER THEN PRINCE CASPIAN'S!!!!!!!! Oh of all the most shameful things! The CGI already looks dated compared to some other movies, including LWW! Although, Superman Returns was about the same caliber as PC in the SFX department (at least, from what I've seen of it...).
Haha, I was just going to post a short one, but it's turned into a rant. Well, now y'all know where my main line in my sig comes from! A complete terror of VotDT turning out like PC! If it does, I! WILL! CRY!!! And I'm serious y'all!! lol My, how simple images on a screen can rip emotion from the depths of human souls!

There is no such thing as a Painless Lesson
Lady Courage, you are quite right about all the LOTR parts. How I wish Narnia could have some originality from LOTR. There were innumerable similarities (and copies). (Anyone notice Frodo---ehh, I mean Susan---hanging over the edge of Aslan's How?) Even in LWW there were a ton of LOTR similarities (Recall the kids hiding from Father Christmas in that little hole? Just like the hobbits hiding from that one Black Rider?)
Ah, the similarities are too similar! They even shot a scene of Susan hanging onto Trumpkin (like Legolas hanging onto Gimli) so he doesn't fall off Miraz's castle. They knew they weren't going to use the scene, they just did it for a similarity! Come onnnn....
I won't continue ranting at the moment but you know, I thought the CGI effects were pretty awesome in PC. (Although I haven't seen Star Wars.)
Pardon my short post, but how was Edmund like Gandalf in the movie?
My book on Amazon Kindle

They're talking about the part where Edmund falls over the side of the castle and lands on the gryphon. The scene looks almost exactly like the one in FotR in which Gandalf falls over the side of Orthanc on to the back of an Eagle.
I found that many of the funny lines were quite cheesy-- "I am a grown-up"... That's the one that really comes to mind. (Also, the "you might need to call me again", all the remarks after the infamous kiss, etc.) It seemed like they tried to add in humor to make it less 'dark', and while it was funny, it was just not appropriate for the scene. It took away from the original story.

Edmund/Gandalf
While I can understand where you all are coming from, unless I had read it here, I would have gone on not seeing the similarity. I don't think they look as much alike as they are made to seem in this thread, but obviously many agree so I'll be in the minority.
narnian1, actually I had not noticed it either until I read it here. Now that I have, though, it seems pretty obvious.
Lady Galadriel, I don't think Narnia had very original action moves, but neither do I think they were copied off LOTR.
Things like throwing arrows and jumping backwards from buildings are classic-- watch lots of superhero and medieval movies and you'll realize that. I highly suspect that hiding under a ledge while the big bad guy looks around for you is a commonly used fright tactic used by directors in horror movies (The Village comes to mind).
Plus Allan Poppleton, the fight and stunt coordinator (the guy who designs fights and moves- he also was a stuntie for Miraz), worked on LOTR, so a bit of his style may have slipped in.
Quod Erat Demonstrandum
yes! Edmund's fall onto the griffon was SO much like Gandalf! a little too much.....
oh well.

Well, having them hide in a little hole is straight out of the book. Perhaps Lewis remembered the hobbits?

"Awww...He's so cute." Unbearably cheesy...I couldn't stand it...bleh...
I totally agree. I also agree that the kiss scene was bad. But, I also think that almost everything that they did different from the book is bad.
I have not yet been fortanute enough to see the LotR movies so I don't know about things being the same as LotR. However, now that I think about it, I do see how the river scene is similar.
I personally ABSOLUTELY LOVED Susan fighting. That would totally be me. I wouldn't want to sit back and worry about my friends and family fighting, I would want to be RIGHT IN THERE helping them. As Eustace said in LB, "I would rather die fighting for Narnia then grow old and stupid at home."
I especially love the one shot of Susan where the camera zooms out and you see her SURROUNDED by dead Telmarines!!! That TOTALLY ROCKS!!!!! Go Susan!!!!!!!

It is out of the book and it isn't at the same time. They did hide in a hole, but under different circumstances. The pretense is the same, but the setup is different, if that makes any sense. What's cheesy is not the actual event but how the shots are set up. They aren't exactly the same, but similar enough to say "Oh, I've seen that before somewhere."

*chooses not to comment because if she did she'd be typing for quite awhile on how absolutely cheesy the romance and farewell scene are "It started out as a feeling......." *

Daughter of the King, that's exactly what I meant! They certainly did hide in a hole in the book, but it just looked really similar to the hobbits' experience. The way the hole was set up, the camera angles, there's just something about it.
