I don't think not having Pete and Su on the DT will make the movie flop, and it seems as if people are getting tired of the WW so they will be glad to see that she isn't the main villain

The marketing is getting annoying (more than usual.) I agree that some of these things are outright lies. I just hope that it doesn't hinder the movie's box office preformance.
Though the marketing is intended to gain more money, it could do the opposite. What if audiences are getting tired of the WW and the good vs. evil themes? Maybe all the "new things" VDT has to offer, would actually help the marketing.
As well, audiences might be angry to see that the marketing was so false.
So I don't know what is really going on here...

My friends (who haven't read the books) are asking me questions like, "who is the other guy (Eustace)?" and, "are Peter and Susan and the WW going to have a large part?" Its kind odd that audiences aren't aware of characters who will have a large part, but are assuming minor characters will play an important role. /:)

I really do think these tactics are going to hurt box office results, not from the book fans whom Fox clearly has no interest in courting, but the movie fans who have no knowledge of the book's plot and go in expecting to see the WW rampaging around the place and Susan and Peter on the VDT. Movies like VDT live and die by word of mouth and repeat viewings. If all the Peter and Susan fans go home disappointed and angry, they won't go back to see the film and won't give positive word of mouth. That's a lot more of a threat to this film than a handful of people on the internet expressing their dismay over the movie's plot.

Precisely! (*)

Though the marketing is intended to gain more money, it could do the opposite.

Which is exactly what happened to PC. [-(

I do hope you're taking notes FOX. For once, let's not repeat history!!! :-w :-ss

I think Fox WAS taking notes - just the wrong ones. The PC marketing campaign was actually honest. The movie was presented just like it was - a darker, more savage, more battle-filled, more Lord of the Rings-ish type of story. :p However, that backfired because the production was chained to a PG rating and a whole lot of other things. I think Fox IS actually trying to not repeat the same mistake of PC (which sought to be independent of LWW), and market the film the same as LWW. They're nervous to try something new. The 7 Lords quest hasn't even been mentioned in any of the advertising. Heck, the Dawn Treader herself doesn't even really appear at all in TV spot #4.

Is anyone wondering if that line is implying Apted's statement about filming 'the book that CS Lewis didn't write?' With the witches rising?

Marketing, pretty much by definition, consists of tricking people, so this isn't really a surprise. :-s Unfortunately, it's all about money (to Fox at least, not necessarily the filmmakers), and they want to get as many people into the cinemas as possible. *shrug*

:( Yep, as has been said, marketing is just getting people to watch it. I do so dislike it when the actual production is nothing like the trailer.

It's like they're trying to make each one an epic battle. Why can't we just have an amazing sea voyage of searching for 7 lords? That's why VotDT IS my favorite book. It's epic and different.

Like I said in the post above, I disagree about them flat out lying on this point.

If I'm right- I might have taken this spoiler the wrong way- Apted said that in VDT he got to write the book CS Lewis never did. (Which I don't like, by the way, but that isn't what this is about.) Which was the witches building an underground fortress or something of the like. :- If VDT really does follow through on that (and I see no reason not to, since Apted said it would) they're not lying. Being very sly with a strategy that might fail VDT in theaters when the movie goers who went to see Tilda Swinton find out she isn't a main character. But not lying. At least, not as far as I know.

It seems sort of rash to get all mad suddenly about marketing morals when what you should be upset about is the fact that the voiceover might actually not be lying.

But I don't know. You all seem very sure of yourselves, so maybe I missed something? :-

Your probably right about me overreacting. And maybe I am afraid of the possible truth.

That's what I'm thinking... what if this isn't deceptive marketing? What if the witch really is a main villain? :(

She wouldn't even have to be physically present in most of it-- maybe they're trying to prevent her from coming back.

Don't worry about the witch being the main villain both Tirian http://www.narniaweb.com/2010/11/some-q ... n-treader/ and Josh viewtopic.php?f=2&t=2133&start=48 who saw it in screening say that she is just in Ed's nightmare and nothing to worry about :) :)

^We already have confirmation from other NWer's who saw the film that the WW is nothing to worry about... they did not however, say anything about tLotGK which has me a bit worried :-s

I believe she was in the leaked script, but later deleted...
