When does everyone think MN should/will be released into theaters?

The articles seem to say they plan on showing it as a holiday movie...

How long do you think it will take to make the movie? I'm guessing a year at the very least.

Christmas 2012? Christmas 2013?

I, for one, am hoping for a 2013 release date. If it's a 2012 release date, it'll be competing with The Hobbit... :-s

Christmas 2013 it will be competing against The Hobbit Part 2. I think they shouldn't delay to 2013, 2 years after Voyage Of The Dawn Treader is the absolute maximum. These movies need to get made quicker.
The first thing they should do is making a good film, and the box-office will answer with a good profit. You can't concentrate on other movies, there will always be some competition. Can't have december all for you're own.

^^ Haha, I forgot about Part Two of The Hobbit. :P ;))

I know we can't have December all for ourselves, but the competition does make a difference. After all, a lot of PC's failure was blamed on the other movies it was up against. There are many people (like myself) who, in this recession, can only afford tickets to one movie. And so, which one will they pick? It does make a difference to the movies success or failure. And there are years, and times of the year, when there is less competiton as compared to other times.

The Hobbit would be competition, I'm sure. But think more positively because many fans of Tolkien are also fans of Lewis which means we'd have some overlap in the two fan bases who would be more likely to see both films.

The good news is that the other big fantasy series, Harry Potter, will be finished by this summer. And MN would still have some competition if it released in November 2012 from Twilight's Breaking Dawn Part 2. I'd like to think that Narnia would hold its own against that one but let's face it, the steaming pile known as Twilight sure is the moneymaker.

Mary Jane: Don't.

Perhaps if the release dates are handled just right (like with HP 7 and VoDT this last season) we could handle releasing both at around the same time. I think three weeks is a reasonable span of time for the hype of one film to die off and make room for another.

Let's face it, we can't push back to 2014 just because of competition. I would hate to see the film released during the testosterone-packed summer slot; that didn't work at all for Narnia. I don't know yet whether I'm all for holiday 2012 or 2013 yet, though.

Could they make a good MN film and have it ready by holiday 2012? Or is three years between films too long a time? Would a 2013 release do for MN what the three year span did to PC?

First of all, what article is being referred to?!

Second, when is the hobbit being released?!

And third, if MN is released in November, and (from what I understand) the Hobbit is being released in December, that should be enough time for the people who really want to see the movie to go out and see it.

I am hoping for a friday, NOVEMBER 30, 2012 release date for Narnia 4. That puts it two weeks after Breakind Dawn Part 1, and three weeks before the hobbit. I think that gives it the best shot.

UNLESS they REALLY try and market it as a summer/spring movie, lots of nature, adventure, bright colors and MAYBE do it in early summer 2013......but I prefer the first option.

Are there any other big movies coming out in the holiday season of 2012? Or are things shying away from the Monster block busters of TWILIGHT and the HOBBIT?

Apparently, the December release date doesn't help after all. Although LWW did great in December, it didn't seem to help VDT, which did worse than PC (at least in the US).

I'm thinking possibly summer or thanksgiving 2013 to avoid too much completition with The Hobbit.

For those of you wanting to make serious suggestions rather than wishful thinking suggestions, it's been taking them 2.5 - 3 years to make each of these movies. The absolute earliest they could potentially release MN is holiday season 2012.

Now, I personally don't want to see any Narnia movie released within a month of The Hobbit. So that rules out 2012 and 2013 Holiday seasons. Why you ask? Because if they release it around America's Thanksgiving, that gives it two to four weeks before the legs are cut off the movie and the Hobbit pulls in all of the ticket sales. For VDT, it had made $87million domestically in four weeks. Now it's up to $103.8mil. So about $17 mil less. Releasing it afterwards, I think it'd be even worse and they wouldn't make a thing.

Summer's out. The filmmakers blame the summer release date for Prince Caspian's box office results. I've always disagreed but I'm not a filmmaker and have no say. :P Either way, I don't think we'll see a summer release for a Narnia film again.

So what does that leave? Well there's one month I don't think the production has considered and they really ought to. And that's March. In 2010 they had both Alice in Wonderland and How to Train your Dragon, both of which did fantastic! I think people are ready for a good movie around then, plus it's when a lot of schools have their spring break. And let's face it, there's not much competition.

So there's my vote. March 2013.

I agree wholeheartedly for the same reasons you stated. They need to make sure the marketing is excellent though. And of course the movie needs to be better than VDT, which I liked despite it being 'choppy'. Still, I want better for the next installments. :)

Good points, but if I were a filmmaker I would still consider summer a possibility. (See my above post.)

Hi emijoy! :) Yes, I did read your post. And while I agree with you that they should be open to a summer release date as a possibility, having listened to several interviews with them after PC came out, I don't think they will.

However, having said that, as Fox is involved now, they may be more open to the idea than Walden is.
