I know Disney has dropped out of Narnia and Fox is (or at least was) continuing the series. When we all thought that MN was going to come out in a somewhat timely manner, I had an idea. Since it seems that the U.S. has pretty much forgotten Narnia, MN may not make as much as it could.
But then I thought, What if Disney re-released LWW in 3D! That's the most well-known Narnia film. Plus, it would get people familiarized with the franchise and get them hyped for the prequel. And wouldn't it be so cool to see all that snow falling everywhere!
Your thoughts?
sounds cool! if they did I would watch it, but since alot of people thought it was unnessisary to have VTD in 3D, I doubt that anyone besides
die-hard Narnia fans would watch it.

I'm getting more and more disgusted with 3D. Ever since Avatar it's been the new "sensation", whereas every 3D movie I've been to has left me dissatisfied and completely "whatever". One of VDT's biggest problems was that it was trying to follow Avatar's footsteps by being 3D (remember the first promotional poster??) 3D doesn't add anything to a movie. I'd much rather see just a movie than watching it 3D.
All that to say, I don't object to LWW being released in 3D. I don't think it's a likely possibility, but it would be interesting.

as much as I personally am not a fan of 3D, I think that it would be cool for the movie to be re-released it might make people remember why Narnia is so cool

I would rather they not do a 3D re-release of The Lion The Witch and the Wardrobe. If Disney/Walden could spend money to convert LWW, I would prefer them to use it to make an original film/ book adaptation.
However, I'm not against just a regular, gimmick free re-release. Maybe the extended edition could show in theaters? I'd still like to see the infamous coronation dance, which we have only seen bits of on the DVDs.
I don't really think this would really help hype for another Narnia film though. It seems that LWW was a once in a life time experience to the public, and only fans of Narnia would want to really see it.
I doubt they would re-release LWW in 3D. It's not even been ten years since LWW was in theaters. And Disney has absolutely no reason to do so anyway. They don't have the film option to the rest of the franchise and considering they abandoned the franchise, I doubt they'll be interested in picking it up again. Maybe if VDT had been better received and made more money.

Yes, exactly. If anything, 3D deters away from how a film should be seen rather than adding anything to it. The audience's focus is pulled away from the story and chracters (which is where the focus should be) and pushed towards the effects. For example, if the case were to be with LWW, when Lucy meets Tumnus our attention would be pulled away from them and placed onto "oh look, it's snowing". The scene is perfect in its original format. If one is involved with what they are viweing, they can almost feel how cold it is in Narnia (I don't know about anyone else, but I sure don't need 3D effects to make me feel that way, I'm already engaged with what's going on).
That being said, I absolutely, positively, most definitely would not want to see LWW in 3D. I'm completely anti-3D for film viewing.

Probable? No.
Although I will address Lion's Emblem's comment and say that as audiences get more used to 3D, the distraction from the storyline will lessen.
Was color a distraction to audiences used to black & white? Yes. Is it a distraction now? No.
I would be fine with a 3D re-release of Wardrobe, but Walden would have an uphill battle with Disney to get it accomplished. I think Walden has all of the uphill battles it can take right now concerning the Narnia series.

Interesting news story that just popped up today:
"With the astounding success of the re-release of “The Lion King” in 3D, Disney has announced that it will bring four more classics back to the big screen. Viewers can first expect “Beauty and the Beast” to show up this January, followed by “Finding Nemo” in September 2012, “Monsters, Inc.” in January 2013 and “The Little Mermaid” in September 2013. Is this an exciting prospect or just a creative example of corporate greed?" - Student Life
Although 3D rereleases seem to be getting more and more popular, a film has to be pretty special, memorable and/or fairly old to be considered. All four of Disney's new rereleases are some of their most beloved/iconic films that are old enough that kids who saw them in theaters would be adults today. The Titanic rerelease makes sense because Titanic made obscene amounts of money at the box office.
However, LWW isn't really that old (not even 6 years) and I don't think it's quite viewed as a "classic". And there's no reason why Disney would rerelease LWW to help create interest for a competitor. They would have to gamble that the box office returns would match the rather expensive and tedious process of rotoscoping each layer of every shot, frame by frame. (Not to mention post-conversions can never match native 3d).
I agree MinotaurforAslan, it isn't old enough yet. That's one of the complaints about rebooting Spiderman- the last one just came out a few years ago. I think it would be awesome to see in 3D, especially the battle scene because it's definitely one of my favorites. But it would probably be viewed as "milking" the franchise, especially because VDT was in 3D. It could have looked so much cooler than it did- the waves, the stars, the sea serpent battle, etc. The only part you really got the 3D effect was when the magician unrolled the map and that was obviously just in there for the 3D.
Anyway, I would love to see it in 3D, I just don't think it would be a good decision. Lion King is One of Disney's most famous movies, everyone knows it, and it's old enough so it worked. Maybe they could wait a while- release it in 3D on the 75th anniversary of Narnia or something. Then it would have a reason to be re-released.
(btw, Lion King in 3D was awesome, if anyone's wondering.)
Although I will address Lion's Emblem's comment and say that as audiences get more used to 3D, the distraction from the storyline will lessen.
Was color a distraction to audiences used to black & white? Yes. Is it a distraction now? No.
I can understand what you are saying Movie Aristotle, and I can take it into consideration, but I have to strongly disagree with you.
For one, color would only be a distraction for a brief moment when it was first introduced (by that argument, you might as well say the same about sound- as in SFX and dialogue). Once the first shock was over, audience members would get right back into the story. True, I wasn't there when color was first introduced, so I can't say that this is how it exactly went, but I can give you more of a recent example that will prove my point. I can remember exaclty how I reacted to when Toy Story was first released. 3D animation was a completely new idea at the time, and seeing it for the first time, there was a brief moment of intrigue only for me to be completely sucked into the story and characters a moment after. With 3D, after the first "effect", the audience sits in anticipation of the next rather than paying attention to the story or other visuals. My other point has to be considered with films that are re-released in 3D. What is changed? Story and characters remain the same, the effects are changed. Therefore, where does the viewer's attention go? Right to the 3D effects.
I do not believe the distraction will lessen. Really, 3D isn't entirely all new. For example, I remember seeing quite a few 4D type shorts at amusment parks and such. This is a different case however. At an amusement park, one anticipates the next jet of air, splash of water, or what will come out at you. Here, 3D is acceptable, but this is not how a feature film should be viewed. Story and emotional connection with the characters comes first, effects are a complete secondary element.
3D is just a way to boost sales without enhancing anything to the film (that's why the ticket prices cost more). It saddens me to see films released this way, as if a part of them is taken away, and I would hate to see the same happen to LWW.
