[Closed] Lucy's sword

I was wondering what people though about the fact that Lucy is carrying a sword in VDT?

I personally don't have a problem with it because after all she is Lucy the Valiant. In PC I felt that it was Susan the Valiant and Lucy the Gentle, it didn't make much sense. That is why I disagreed with Susan fighting in PC.

Although if Lucy is to fight in this movie it's turning her character 360 degrees around from what is was in PC, but it's closer to what the Lucy in the book would be like (imo).

Is this a good thing?

I think that it will be cool to see Lucy fight (we have seen Susan fight after all)! she might get to take part in some of the fighting! :D or she might just have the sword in case she needs to defend herself.....

Looking closer at the design of the sword I see that it is shorter than most (a dirk perhaps) and the handle is sturdy but smooth. It's a very feminine weapon and it's got my seal of approval!
Lucy is older now and there are plenty of reasons why she should be carrying a sword on this adventure.

Her sword reminds me of Trumpkin's , It definitely has a dwarfish feel to it. I personally love that she finally has a sword. It definitely matches her character and the book. Even if she doesn’t use it that much, the fact that she carries one I think gives you a more visual reason why she is called Lucy the Valiant. :)

I like that they're giving Lucy a sword. The sword doesn't look too out of place, and plus she's older than Eustace, and if he gets a sword, why can't she? :D
Also, she is Lucy the Valiant, and in HHB she fought while Susan stayed behind, so I think that Lucy having a sword is still in character, at least for book-Lucy.

I've got absolutely no problem with Lucy having a sword, it fits her character.

I hadn't even noticed until you said something. Very good observation.

I am in favour of this- afterall, in one of the books (HHB, I believe), it says that Lucy went to war, but not Susan (Hence Susan the Gentle *cough cough*). As fantasia_kitty says, it definitely fits her character.

I am not bothered at all by Lucy carrying a sword in VDT. In fact, I'm most pleased by it (well, we'll see how it's used in the film for the final thumb's up). Even if she doesn't fight with it, I think it's important to see that she at least carries a blade, as a safety precaution (you just never know what can happen on deck of the VDT with sea serpents out there). The look definitely fits in with the rest of the crew. And I agree with Lucy P. on the actual length of the sword. It seems more reasonable that she would be carrying a shorter blade, to me anyway (I guess that comes from the BBC version of VDT). On the note that her sword has a resemblance to Trumpkin's, do you think they'll mention that it was crafted by dwarfs (as it was mentioned for Caspian's sword in the PC book), or that it could even be presented to Lucy by a dwarf when Edmund receives Rhindon? I do hope that the craftmanship is at least mentioned.

I don't mind at all, in fact, I find that it suits her! :p Like others have said, it suits her name of "Lucy the Valiant"! And I believe that it's about time that she used something bigger then that tiny little dagger! ;)

I'm glad she has a sword. I agree it fits her character. I hope they have her fighting at least a little bit in VoDT. I liked that they had Susan fighting in PC and I love it when you have girl heroines who fight alongside "their men" so to speak.

Lucy is Valiant, right! so it will be very Valient of her to be using a weapon and fighting (I am hoping she will take part in some sort of fight..... :D )

Well, in an interview with a crew member, it was mentioned that Lucy and Caspian are ambushed by some group or other who drop from up inside a tower and (in the words of the interviewee)

...and start a fight with, obviously, Caspian and Lucy.

So Lucy will be in at least one little struggle. And what about the Sea Serpent? There is supposed to be a battle with that creature.

I do agree that the sword looks great on her, very "Lucy the Valiant." :) I would probably have perfered a bow and quiver of arrows, but that is more in Susan's line. It is kind of nice to have something new for Lucy. I don't mind too much. And if they gave her a bow, then by The Last Battle, everyone would be so tired of girls with bows that Jill with a bow would be very passe. I really want Jill to have her bow. It's part of her character, to me.

With that battle, there are rowers trying to row the Dawn Treader so it can crush the sea serpent into a rock! :-o I don't think Lucy uses her sword in this scene...

It's great that we get to see Lucy fight! I hated Susan fighting in PC since I think Lucy is mostly a better fighter then her as it says by the book HHB. Go Lucy!!!!
