While I was trying to find a good Version of the Pauline Baynes map of Narnia I found something some of you might find interesting:
The Homepage of Daniel Reeve gives pictures of some of the work he has done, he made all the maps used in the film, as well as the one you all know from the promotional pictures, but the most interesting thing on there was what he had to say about the lettering on the stone table:
The lettering on the Stone Table was the job for which Daniel Reeve was brought onto the Narnia crew. The brief here was to create an alphabet with a vaguely early Christian feel to it, but of course it couldn't be mistaken for any actual existing language. This design, used in the film, was influenced by some text in The Book of Kells.
accompanied with a picture of the whole lettering that goes round the stone table itself
Exhilarating!
Anyways, check out his other stuff (Lettering on Father Christmas' Toy bag? I didn't knew there was any to begin with... ) here:

I fell in Love with all maps after seeing Daniel Reeve's work in The Lord of the Rings!
That’s really cool how he gave the lettering on the Stone Table an early Christian look to them! Thanks for sharing Reepi! I Love his work! Oh, and I actually e-mailed him a month or two ago to ask if he had been asked by Fox/Walden about doing anything for VDT, but he replied that he hadn’t been asked yet. Hopefully they will ask him to do something.
The Value of myth is that it takes all the things you know and restores to them the rich significance which has been hidden by the veil of familiarity. C.S. Lewis
Vaguely early Christian? What language is this supposed to represent? It looks sort of like Greek. Or Armenian- since Armenia was one of the first (if not the first) nation to become officially Christian (or was that Georgia?). Somebody please let me know.
To me, it would have been very cool if it had imitated Hebrew.
it looks like elvish!
this is awesome!
Aravis Narnia: it does look a bit Greek.....

It's not Greek. The Book of Kells was written in insular majuscule. It's a kind of writing Irish monks used, starting in the 7th century.
