I wonder which one the director will go with -- explaining it, or pretending it never hapenned...

Neither. The directors, knowing that the name drop has happened, will refer to it and use it, instead of extraneous book references which were never explained even in the book. To wit, Jill will say: 'I might have known you would side with them. And after you were so nice over the homework before the term started'. Or Eustace will argue: 'Didn't I help you with that homework you forgot? And I also stood up to Carter about the rabbit didn't I?'
Trouble is with Spivvins we never learn what the secret is that Eustace kept. Was Spivvins' father a spiv of some sort? Or was it something personal or of national importance? And for all we know from the book, Eustace might have saved someone's poor pet rabbit from being made into rabbit pie. Or wartime felt.

That's actually what I meant by "explaining it".
Yeah, they might do that. Or they might do as stateofgreen said, and just ignore it. Not sure which I prefer, really.

I need to re-read them too, I don't really remember what happened between Jill and Eustace - only that he needs to go back to Narnia because the dragon transformation doesn't stick 100%.
I wouldn't say that. The dragon bit was all about his being greedy, selfish, thinking he owned the place and that he didn't have to share anything. In SC the themes are about perseverance, even when the job looks a bit difficult, or when one is tired, cold and hungry. It means also sticking to your principles, the way Puddleglum does. It means Eustace has to be friends with Jill, even when she behaves irresponsibly at the cliff face. And it means that he has to accept some of the blame when Jill muffs Aslan's four signs.
This is also a book where Jill and Eustace learn that they both have things to be frightened about, and to respect other people's fears. I hope the film gets made.

Thank you waggawerewolf27 for my laugh of the day!
It's been really fun to speculate about homework and the Silver Chair film intro.

Yes, it was fun to speculate. I think the name-drop at the end of the film was mainly to help future directors to keep their options open about how to link the movies. I'm not saying that homework is the only reason why Jill might want to see Eustace. Just the most likely. For all we know she might be involved in collecting for the war effort or congratulating him (with gritted teeth) on being the dux of the class. (evil ).

And it is also still possible that SC might be passed over in favour of Magician's Nephew. If they do, directors would need to use the last scene with Eustace either for cameo introductions, either to include the Pevensies in the action or to link the stories a bit more or both.
This is the scene where Eustace was telling us that Lucy and Edmund stayed with him for the rest of the holidays and that they talked about Narnia a lot.
I REALLY hope they don't pick MN over SC!

the name drop made me giggle when I saw it again last night for some reason
it's just fun that only book readers know who Jill is

That makes two of us. They've got to get Will onscreen again before he gets any older. I'm starting a letter to Walden (don't know if they'll read it).

Now it's three. Actually I think 90% of the fan-base would rather have SC next.

Ahem, please will you try hard to add a bit more substance here?
(and could you NOT quote the post above you please? Just a simple reply is better - thank you kindly )
There, shining in the sunrise, larger than they had seen him before, shaking his mane (for it had apparently grown again) stood Aslan himself.
"...when a willing victim who had committed no treachery was killed in a traitor's stead, the Table would crack and Death itself would start working backwards."
Oops...sorry!
Ok, more substance here!
I thought that it was cool, my heart-rate probably sped up and I was thinking "Yeah, just wait for the auditions and it can be me!" (Even if it's not me, I can't wait to see Jill and Eustace interact together in SC). And I will say no more about who the role goes to before coracle "ahem"s me again.

I found Jill's name-drop both akward and completely unnecessary. On the other hand, I could see it as a nod to the fans and a signal of 'continuity' (in the sense of film continuity, not book continuity!)
It's a sort of a promise that the Silver Chair will be made - but this hint could have been made in a more subtle, indirect way.
