So, I'm curious...

What did everyone think about Jill Pole being mentioned at the end of the film? :D ;))

For me, I loved it. I'm sorry; wrecking the beginning of SC notwithstanding, that was just cool. It took me completely by surprise and it made me grin.

You?

I loved and hated it at the same time. I loved that we were seeing signs of the Silver Chair (my favorite book) and a hint toward Jill Pole (my second favorite female character).

However its very important that Jill and Eustace are not friends at the end of the Silver Chair. Eustace used to bully her, and I liked seeing the change of him and I found their growing friendship was one of the best things about the book.

Eustace did seem a bit of a nerd, so maybe they could explain Jill visiting because she was being forced to be tutored by Eustace? Then again, i can't really picture evil Eustace tutoring anyone but who knows? Maybe he tormented Jill during their sessions.

I thought it was a nice touch - a definite nod to the fanbase.

I thought it was unnecessary. It will go right over the head of people who haven't read the books. It was a cute nod to the book fans, but it also felt completely out of place. Jill isn't supposed to be friends with Eustace the brat.

I quite literally screamed as the mentioned character is my favourite in the whole series :)
As much as I loved the mention, but it may become a difficulty if and when the get round to making SC if the two already somehow know each other

Proud that VDT is Australian :)

Wait, Eustace is already friends with Jill in VDT? That makes no sense whatsoever. He was still hanging around with the people bullying Jill at that point in time. What about Bratty!Eustace would make Jill want to be his friend?

They never say that they're friends; only that Jill is there to see him. Could be that their parents are social friends and think it would be a good idea that their children keep each other company, although they don't realize how much Eustace torments Jill. It's not insensible at all. The sort of parents that would send their children to the type of school that the Experimental House was would probably want their children to fraternize with each other rather than "uncultured folk", regardless of their kid's personalities and character.

Does that make sense? And why on earth are you in here, Booky? ;)) I'm beginning to regret I made this thread, lol. I thought that folks who hadn't seen the movie were positively banned from this forum.

Yes, but I'm the Grand High Dark Overlord of the League of Extraordinarily Spoiled Rotten Masterminds. It is my duty to be in here. ;)) I guess that makes sense, but I'd rather them just not do it.

It was cute in the same way that the Royal Shakespeare production of LWW was cute in 2001 when they put in references to the Professor having been in Narnia before. AND some stupid actor using the name Reepicheep to a mouse character (definitely ad lib which had crept into the script) in it. (mice weren't even talking in LWW! it came later, as Aslan explained in PC)

So, not nice cute. Bad cute. Clever, 'we know something that not everyone knows, throwing it in for the readers' kind of cute.

It was out of order, because the SC script will now either be forced to accept that Jill and Eustace are already friends who play together, or ignore this reference, OR find a way to turn it round so that this reference is innocuous. Dangerous stuff. Eustace has end-comments that are deliberate linking too - and I'm not sure I like them. I can see they are meant to replace the comments Lewis makes on the final page about him. But I didn't like the reference to Jill.

There, shining in the sunrise, larger than they had seen him before, shaking his mane (for it had apparently grown again) stood Aslan himself.
"...when a willing victim who had committed no treachery was killed in a traitor's stead, the Table would crack and Death itself would start working backwards."

^ I say they write the movie scripts by memory without reading and looking back at the books. 8-|

I thought it was a nice nod to the book fans. Kind of like the apple in LWW that the professor has on his desk.

...I liked it :D I had a small spasm in my seat. sure they'll have to find some way to explain it, but it was nice to be given a little bit of hope that they'll make SC :)

Grief for the movies made me abandon narniaweb...but I'm so glad to be back!
Many thanks to the wonderful Lady Eowyn for making my sig/av.
