Today is a good day 😭

"Tollers, there is too little of what we really like in stories. I am afraid we shall have to try and write some ourselves." - C.S. Lewis
... but they STILL haven't told us which book(s) she's adapting.
"Now you are a lioness," said Aslan. "And now all Narnia will be renewed."
(Prince Caspian)
14 long years! I am excited but apprehensive for this. I would think we'll find out more news through the latter half of the year.
Let us go on and take the adventure that shall fall to us
-Queen Susan
The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis
People are quick to judge but slow to correct themselves
-Ezio Auditore, Assassin's Creed Brotherhood
At least I hope it will be shown in a regular theater. There is an IMAX theater about twenty five or thirty miles from where I live, but I would prefer seeing the film in an old fashioned theater. At least I will check some of the old theaters near where I live to see if they are showing it. I actually do not like having an excessive amount of technology in a Narnia film. It seems like something that C. S. Lewis would not approve of since he was not a fan of an ultra modern Narnia.
What wonderful news!
14 long years and it finally feels like it's actually about to happen again.
Interesting I see there's still no confirmation on which story they're doing first though! 🧐
*~JESUS is my REASON!~*
It's finally real! Only took 14 years! Let's rock and roll, NarniaWebbers! 😉
I see what you did there.
There, shining in the sunrise, larger than they had seen him before, shaking his mane (for it had apparently grown again) stood Aslan himself.
"...when a willing victim who had committed no treachery was killed in a traitor's stead, the Table would crack and Death itself would start working backwards."
I suddenly had a flashback to the opening scene in A Knight's Tale
Lost in the woods and weary he looked into the night sky and a voice spoke to him, "As long as the moon shines, I will be with you. The day the moon no longer shines, you will be with Me."
Very cool! Looking forward to riding the pre-movie ride with everyone again!
Sweet! Now I just have to find an IMAX theater. But even if I don't, at least it sounds like they filmed so it would look good both in IMAX and on streaming. I'd really like to see it in theaters though.
For better or worse-for who knows what may unfold from a chrysalis?-hope was left behind.
-The God Beneath the Sea by Leon Garfield & Edward Blishen check out my new blog!
@courtenay Pretty sure she said she's taking on Magician's Nephew
I can't be the only one who's a bit uneasy about Gerwig's adaptation. The 2000s LWW was a cinematic masterpiece that respected Lewis's work. I'm not sure what Gerwig's going to do. Her work with Little Women took out all the faith elements that made the book so special. However, I look forward to seeing what she'll do.
Yay! Finally some news! Now there will be something for families to see during holiday break (if it continues into Christmas)!
Netflix has never done theatrical releases, so this is something new for them! I think this will also give people options to go see the new Narnia movie in the IMAX theater (though it could show in a regular theater as well) or watch it from the comfort of their own home.
Now the question still is: which book will Greta Gerwig will do? The three Walden films were really good (though I do kind of prefer the first two than the third, which I have mixed feelings about). So she'll have to do her own take on Narnia then what the BBC TV series or the Walden film series have done. So which will she do? The Lion, The Witch, And The Wardrobe (which would be the most logical way to start) or do a new take and start with The Magician's Nephew? I'm sure we'll hear some announcement before too long.
"And this is the marvel of marvels, that he called me beloved."
(Emeth, The Last Battle)
@courtenay Pretty sure she said she's taking on Magician's Nephew
She hasn't actually said so as such, as far as anyone's heard. The closest she's come to stating anything about The Magician's Nephew is her enigmatic reference, in an early interview, to how the creative process was going, when she said "I'm in the Wood between the Worlds..." and explained what that metaphor meant, in a way that showed she was definitely familiar with the book. But there's been no official confirmation of anything so far.
I can't be the only one who's a bit uneasy about Gerwig's adaptation. The 2000s LWW was a cinematic masterpiece that respected Lewis's work.
Ah, well, that's one thing that could simply be a matter of opinion. I watched the 2005 film of LWW at the cinema when it was first released and I could only conclude that, while it was very well done as a film and certainly didn't stray from the basic plot of the book, it was an absolute travesty when it came to capturing the spirit of what Lewis wrote. They changed nearly all the dialogue and in many cases dumbed it down (I was only recently reminded of Mr Beaver's crashingly awful line "He's the top geezer!" in describing Aslan ), went repeatedly for over-the-top excitement — like the chase scenes and the massive-scale battle at the end — instead of sticking with the rather understated, gentle, mysteriously magical tone of the book, and in general just came across as if they thought they'd taken this masterpiece of children's literature and made it SO, SO, SO much better. Which they hadn't.
I've tried watching it repeatedly since then and I still cannot stand it, and can't quite comprehend how anyone who loves the original book can think this is a truly good adaptation of it. So really, whichever way you look at it, there's no accounting for taste. (And the later two Walden films — which I haven't dared to watch!! — divide fans' opinions even more and everyone agrees they were progressively less and less faithful to the books, especially VDT.)
I'm not sure what Gerwig's going to do. Her work with Little Women took out all the faith elements that made the book so special. However, I look forward to seeing what she'll do.
I haven't seen Gerwig's Little Women or read the original book, so I can't comment on that. However, as far as we've seen, all her comments on Narnia itself, and on C.S. Lewis as a writer and thinker, have been very positive and respectful. Certainly nothing that's been clanging any alarm bells, so far.
I'm willing to give her the benefit of the doubt and see what she comes up with — it could be absolutely excellent, utterly dreadful, or anywhere in between. Or like previous adaptations, there could be some Narnia fans who love it and some who can't stand it!
At least now we have a date for when we'll all finally find out for sure...
"Now you are a lioness," said Aslan. "And now all Narnia will be renewed."

Pretty sure she said she's taking on Magician's Nephew
First of all, welcome to NarniaWeb @carithewriter! I saw you join the other day but haven't "met" you on the forum yet. We're happy to have you here.
No, as @Courtenay mentioned above, we have not had any official word from Netflix yet. Those of us who are reading between the lines are leaning towards Magician's Nephew, but that's not confirmed.
I can't be the only one who's a bit uneasy about Gerwig's adaptation.
Of course not. I myself fall into the category of tentatively optimistic. But having lived through the Walden version of Narnia being made, "uneasy" is totally normal. You should have seen all of us back in the day when it was announced that the director of 'Shrek' was helming 'The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.'
I accept that there will be things I don't like, and things that I do like, and just hope that the latter outweighs the former.
Sweet! Now I just have to find an IMAX theater.
But even if I don't, at least it sounds like they filmed so it would look good both in IMAX and on streaming. I'd really like to see it in theaters though
Is it bad that my first reaction to this news was excitement that I don't have to resubscribe to Netflix now?

Unfortunately I don't think there are any Imax cinemas in my country. Edit: perhaps at the other end of my country (1465 km - drive about 24 hours, with a 3.5 hour ferry crossing; or fly for approx 1.5 hours)
