There are 3 possible scenarios that I can see here.

1) They are moving forward with the series, but we haven't heard so yet.

2) It will die in much the way that gP described. Extremely quietly, kind of like Meerkat Manor- By the time we got any official statement, everyone knew it was canceled anyways.

3) It will end up like JP4 (That's Jurassic Park, for those who don't know) and just be stuck in development for years...

Personally I'm hoping 1, but past experience is pointing to 3 at the moment :|

I'm hoping for #1 too, wolfloversk. :) If that is the case, the budget for MN would be probably be the main issue right now.

When VDT came out I went on opening night to a 6:00 PM show and almost nobody was there. It was too early for the word of mouth to hurt that much even if enough people really disliked it to a high degree. :-o

So for whatever reason, the interest in Narnia movies just went away here in the USA. :( VDT did end up close to PC overall but the US is still the biggest market; and here it took a big step down from PC.

So I'm guessing they are adjusting the budget down but not so much as to be a drastic cut. Moviemaking is a business as well as an art form. And they know we are all waiting... :-$

:- Last year we watched a TV program called Meerkat Manor. We thought it was a great program about a family of meerkats, their rivals and their tribulations. One of the last programs was when Flower died of snakebite, whilst rescuing her pups.

That is where both SC and MN are at anyway, according to IMDb or Coming soon.

I think another one is going to be made. It took awhile between PC and VDT so im not worried.

That's the one... Actually Flower died toward the end of season three, there were 4 in all (though they were contracted to 5 X( ) However this is waayyy off topic... I'll finish rambling in the tv thread when I get to it... we have a tv thread, right?

Anyway, good point about the other two, but I don't know if its quite the same situation, since in JP4 there were actually script drafts made, to my knowledge, but its been about ten years since JP3... even if that happens, we might get MN or even HHB, but the other two would require some major recasting by that stage if we expect them to get made at all :-s

So yes, here's hoping for 1...

I think at some point somebody will pick up the series or remake the whole thing. It could be a while though :(

It annoys me that Disney sold Narnia franchise (Well at least they still have Tron). Didn't Fox greenlit The Magician's Nephew? If so, why would they jump to a prequal? Personally, I think they should continue with The Silver Chair and The Last Battle and finish the storyline. THEN go back and make a prequal. It's just like George Lucas makes A New Hope and Empire Strikes Back, but then he decided to make The Phantom Menace instead of Return of the Jedi. :D

Not wanting to be tricky for the sake of it, but MN is not a prequel or a sequel. It is a multi-dimensional origin story. I think this could be an important distinction for the CoN film fanbase being one that ends up with all 7 chronicles being made into great films.

^Care to explain to me how is it not a prequel or sequel? I haven't read any of the books. :P

It seems as if they want to make MN, so I'm a bit puzzled why they haven't greenlit it yet. How long did it take for VDT to be greenlit after PC? Did it take this long? I know there were lots of delays, but I wasn't paying very close attention because I wasn't on NW yet. ;)

First off, welcome to NW. :)
As far as I know, because it is one of the more popular books of the series (and because it has a popular character in it). But they haven't greenlit MN yet.

Most of the people I know didn't go to see VDT, for one or both of the following reasons:

1. Less than stellar reviews from the critics.

2. They saw PC and were convinced that the once-magical series had devolved into generic store-brand action/fantasy. Perhaps worth watching on TV some day, but not worth spending their money when you consider today's inflated ticket prices.

or...

3) They saw the previews and read the reviews and thought it was too magical and childish /:)

I'll try. 8-x

A Fantastic MN will enrich the story of any of the other CoN adaptations, whether viewed before or after. Each other film gives depth to the dimension of Narnia that the current story is happening, but MN is really the only film out of the chronicles that can enrich all the other 'stories' due to it's origins focus and being the most multi-dimensional story ( the other's do, but more for the specialist fan who already knows the CoNs are great, rather than the casual movie goers who havn't got there yet. )

Also it's the best time to do MN for this. The CoN are not really a linear series particularly, they can be but it's not essential and would take away from their fun if the individual CoN stories are only experienced this way. But before the wider, more casual audience could get that out of the films, there has to be some context. The CoN have that now with the first three films, which for many still casual fans will be appreciated for the most part as one continuous linear story - and a big part of that ended up being the Georgie Henley influence in one way or another.

At the same time though, people are now use to three different worlds of Narnia story settings and this is now part of the expectations. So MN can now connect all the stories in this way more fully which the casual movie goer wasn't prepared for before, but is now. and which is essential for maintaining/building the interest in the remaining CoN adaptations to be done for the casual movie fans. And a big part of that is artistic license being expected by the casual fans in their continuing interest for the remaining Narnia films. %%-

Ah thank you.

Why does the US loses interest in Narnia? Well, no Megan Fox or giant explosions from high tech military war machines will put today's young people away. Just let Michael Bay to direct next Narnia movie and believe me no matter how bad review it gets, it will fill the box office. Nah just joking.

On the serious note: Maybe it's because the movie is too "childdish?" The pacing is not right and there is no sense of danger for our beloved main characters. PC did the action right but the pacing of the story was way too slow.

If The Magician's Nephew gets made the film-makers have to make it appealing in the same way The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe was. Prince Caspian was a little too dark and not only were some people put off by it. I don't think any of the Narnia movies should be dark except for The Last Battle. In contrast The Voyage of the Dawn Treader was way too light. Finding balance is key.
