[Closed] Is it the End for Narnia?

It's been more than four months since VDT was released. The DVD/Blu-ray's been out for a while. By all accounts, studios are done with that film and it's profits.

And no further Narnia movies have been greenlit.

Do you all think there will be another Narnia film? There's been nothing since the death of Perry Moore and subsequent announcement that MN was next. By now, I'm really starting to think the film franchise is at it's end. What do you all think? Has Fox dropped Narnia, or just put it away somewhere with no intention to bring it out again? Is it the end for the Narnia films?

Right now I feel like there's a fifty-fifty chance it will get made. The Voyage of the Dawn Treader made a decent profit but I'm not sure if Fox has enough incentive to greenlight another one.

It's possible that the delay has been in the budget and script negotiation instead of whether they would actually green light it or not.. I'll be worried if it's July and still no announcement.

I would suspect that based on the inside sources each and every site has that should the series of movies be over, we'd hear about it and be able to post something to that effect.

I also suspect that due to the fact that VDT did not do well in the USA (which is where the studios make the most profit) and the poorer DVD sales, that they're still trying to figure out budget issues, script issues, etc etc, and that's why we haven't gotten an official greenlight announcement either.

I think it's still up in the air.

there was a huge delay between PC and VotDT, so I'm not too worried. I hope that they are changing their minds and suddenly will come out and say that SC is next, but I'll be happy with whatever they decide :D

The death of Perry Moore has nothing to do with the Narnia franchise - he has not been involved for some time.

Just hang on....

There, shining in the sunrise, larger than they had seen him before, shaking his mane (for it had apparently grown again) stood Aslan himself.

When Percy Jackson came out fans had waited over a year for the sequel to be greenlit. The studio is Fox as well. Just give it some time. I have faith that this year we will hear something about Magician's Nephew being greenlit. :)

A year??? *faints*

I hope to see another film soon, but all the same I don't want to be super-hopeful. Let's face it, Narnia is not the hottest film series right now. And getting ditched by Disney, followed by a low domestic gross for VDT, might make Fox want to rethink their commitment to the series. I know Walden is all for it, but Walden can't produce these films alone.

Ugh.

I think MN might be greenlit sometime. It seems to be a favorite of the filmmakers, so they'll probably want to make it out of personal reasons, if nothing else.

However, I think after MN, it ends. I don't think we'll be getting anything after MN. And that's not necessarily a bad thing. :| I'm already a little wary of my favorite book being ruined on screen...

I think the script issues are to do with MN, not VDT, which has been and gone.

It would be interesting to see how MN could be adapted for film, especially as unlike either VDT or PC, there are only the BBC and FOTF audio drama versions for comparison. And then after delaying it for so long, I think that the series will probably end with Silver Chair. I know that IMDb is no proper guide, but it says something that IMDb decided to keep that ungreenlit Silver Chair board, changing it to 2015, rather than discarding it altogether which they could have done. It also says something that this board has an associated message board that over the years has been more frequented than those attached to some greenlit movies.

After SC there would be no more White Witch, or any Witch of any sort to ramp up sales. There is no sense in doing HHB if you aren't going to do LB, though feasibly you could do LB without HHB. And with falling revenues I suspect these movies have been scrapped anyway.

At one stage I found links to lists of sequels that are being mooted. These not only included ones that are due out this year or in 2012 but further into the future. They included Ice Age: Continental drift, and Pirates of the Caribbean 5 & 6, plus MN and SC. To my surprise I found there was also a sequel planned for Series of unfortunate events which didn't do very well even on its first run. So I am not at all sure that it is the End for Narnia at this stage.

If the series is going to end with VDT, it could be a very long time before that becomes "official."

We know that Walden is trying to get it made. It could be years before they give up.
Right now, there is no green-light but Walden is trying. That could still be the case one year from now. Or more.

If the series ends here, I don't think there will be an official announcement about it. It's just hard to picture Walden officially announcing that they aren't making anymore. Even if they were getting nowhere, wouldn't they want to leave the door open for another studio to get interested? What reason would they have to close the door?

This is where it would be great to ask Walden where they are at with the next movie. Especially someone influential, already seen as connected to NarniaWeb and the sort of person Walden wants to view the next movie.

waggawerewolf27, that could be an idea, but they would most likely not answer or say that things are unclear right now. I think there are a lot of issues being sorted out as to who, where, what, and why. VDT did make less than half of what LWW did, and less than PC. Any Narnia movie being made involves a risk now. We'll just have to wait and be patient. :) :)
I do agree with glumPuddle, that if they decide not to make the movies, they won't officially anounce it, but will leave the door open. Can you just imagine, 5 or 6 years from now: "NARNIA RETURNS!!! THE LION HAS AWAKENED WITH THE MAGICAL "MAGICIAN'S NEPHEW" BASED ON C.S. LEWIS' EPIC MASTERPIECE!!!"
Or, amybe 10 or 15 years from now we get something like the Star Wars Prequels: "RETURN TO THE MAGIC OF NARNIA - THE MAGICIAN'S NEPHEW - THE PREQUEL!"
