edmund is, i think, old enough to know that even though he has enough power to lock Eustace up, he knows that he shouldn't, he has to endure his cousin, wheter he likes it or not

I don't think Eustace is necessarily a pacifist in a political sense, since he's always so argumentative and willing to pick fights with others. I think he only says he is to get out of the duel that Reepicheep challenges him to, because he's trying to buff his own ego while avoiding being embarrased.

When Eustace says he's a pacifist, he could be applying it to politics only. That way, he might disapprove of wars (a disapproval probabaly picked up from his parents while hearing them talk about the war), and at the same time, he could be quite argumentative and irritating to people he meets, since arguing isn't really the same as a war between countries. He might not apply pacifism to his beliefs in a social sense. :)

Eustace can't be an actual pacifist, considering he bullies kids at his school, the book does say that. Eustace's claiming to be a pacifist is clearly a tactic he uses to prevent himself from being forced into a battle with Reepicheep.

Did he bully the kids in a violent sense, though? I can't remember. I thought he just did favors for the other bullies to get on their good side, and acted as kind of a tattletale. Everything he did at Experiment House was probably just to avoid getting beat up himself. It probably would have been more out of fear than non-pacifism, don't you think? :)

i agree, i think that eaustice probably said he was a pacifist to get out of the fight with reepicheep, but that doesn't mean he lied, he probably was tellig the truth about be a pacifist, just in a political way. he chose to say so at that time, to get out of the fight
