I remember reading the books the first time when I was a kid (a number of decades ago ) and being very disappointed that Peter and Susan (and eventually Lucy and Edmund) weren't in every story. Of course I got over that and the series is one of my all time favourites.
But I imagine that's how a lot of Movie Fans who haven't read the books would feel if characters they loved disappeared altogether. So I don't think the Movie Display is "bad marketing" really. WE know that they will just have cameos, and those that don't know the story will be glad enough to find their fave characters still have some part, even if it's small.

I wanted to comment again on Susan and Peter in the display.
With the newer picture you can clearly seem them a little better. The coloring to me looks funky, I am not sure but that could be the camera but Susan looks older, her hair different and she is wearing some dress. Peter looks like he is in his school uniform from PC so it seems like they may have gotten Anna to pose for a picture or appear in a brief cameo and they may just mention where Peter is... I am just speculating.
I don't think this is bad marketing to have Peter and Susan, I believe it helps show consistency which will make people want to see the movie to find out where they are know because they will hopefully remember how Aslan told them they they weren't returning to Narnia. Now we will find out where they are and VDT will hopefully have a nice closure to the Pevensie's and help make Eustace the main character to carry over to the SC.
But I agree this could all be sending the wrong message and is choppy because this poster board seems very random with lots of random characters put together and it doesn't make a lot of sense when you just look at it.
I'm actually anxious to see how Susan will be played out even if she does have a cameo rather then the Magician's Book scene I wonder if she'll say to her siblings about Narnia only being a silly game before going to America or laughing at Lucy if she brings Narnia up to see a bit of her foreshadowing would be nice as long as her cameo has nothing whatsoever to do with Caspian.

... even if she does have a cameo rather then the Magician's Book scene...
*considers that a cameo* I assume you meant an appearance besides the scene with the Magician's book?
does anyone think that they will continue to use characters like Susan, Peter, and Jadis in future advertising? I think from this its quite possible they'll be slipped into other posters, but what about the trailer. Will they show Susan firing a couple arrows that they shot just for the trailer (a lot of movies do things like that) as a marketing device?

yep
That is what I meant and it would make complete sense if it was done that way.

Now that we know that it is Tilda people are assuming she’s in Edmund’s dream. But couldn’t she just as likely be in Lucy’s dream? If you remember the FotF Radio Drama, during that part at Dark Island the Narrator says “...one of her own dreams, which she tried hardest to forget, came back to her as vividly as if she’d only just woken,” and then they replay a sound clip of the White Witch screaming as she kills Aslan. The implication is that Lucy had once had a nightmare of the White Witch.
I would like it much better if it is part of her dream than Edmund's or Caspian's. I don't remember that part from the radio drama. I'll have to listen to that section again.
Only a couple of people have weapons and they aren't pointing them at the viewer.
Well, I suppose that is something to be thankful for!
They had characters pointing weapons at the viewers on some of the PC stuff. See here for examples.
They all stand alone and they are all well loved. No other fantasy series out there can claim that because you have to read the previous book to move onto the next one. And yet, the production cannot seem to let go of the previous story and embrace the current story for what it is. It seems they MUST rely on the previous story's characters in order to make the next movie.
Exactly! You said that well.

This is the very same thing that i was thinking. Rather than Eustace in Jill both being the only ones on the SC poster they might show WW and Edmund and Lucy if they either have cameos or just for the sake of marketing familiar characters. (I still find it a little ridiculous since they need to advertise a story rather then characters)
The trailer I doubt we'll see Susan firing arrows but perhaps a close up of her in the magician's book.

Okay, this may be a really bad example, but has anyone considered the spy kids 3 poster?

Mr. and Mrs. Cortez as well as Ralph probably were in the movie for a grand total of 2 minutes of screen time and yet they still make prominent positions on the poster, while other more important characters are left out. Once again, this is a poor example of marketing for an actually good movie, but it does show the exact same scheme of marketing. This is because people remember these characters from the previous films.
I rather thought Spy Kids 3 was poorly made
But this does help a lot Kotarki! Yes there has been many posters out there were a character or characters didn't have a big enough part yet they still made the poster.
I wish that VDT's poster was a little like Lybrinth's. With a lot of characters faces surrounding the DT and Aslan in the middle of everyone. I wish that everyone was on the poster and have the actual principal characters faces bigger then the cameo characters.

Honestly, the thing I like most about the poster is the way Aslan looks. He's a lot more regal and imposing this time around. In the previous two films I felt that they oversold his gentleness and didn't successfully convey the aura of power and danger that I associate with Aslan in the books.
Other than that, though, I definitely think they took the wrong approach here. Selling this movie should be really simple: show the Dawn Treader herself, front and center. The ship should be the icon of this film. Seeing it would immediately establish how different this Chronicle is from its predecessors - a seafaring adventure! I don't understand why they aren't taking advantage of this. Hopefully for a later poster...
"A man can no more diminish God's glory by refusing to worship Him than a lunatic can put out the sun by scribbling the word 'darkness' on the walls of his cell." (C.S. Lewis, The Problem of Pain)
Take the Titanic poster for example. It concentrates more on the ship itself.
"The Voyage of the Dawn Treader"
Please marketing people, show The Dawn Treader!
I agree with you equustel. The people said this same thing about PC to Ben Barnes. "The film is called Prince Caspian so we needed a prince on the poster because of its' title so deal with it."
Now it's "Dawn Treader" in the title, "So put a ship on the poster and deal with it!" Is what I say

Yeah! The ship should be in the center, and Aslan above it or something.

When at my other jobs, part of the job description mentions Disaster Management. In some way, folks would consider the standee a "disaster." When the trailer hits, I plan on having quite of bit of chocolate and ice cream on hand.
“Safe?” said Mr. Beaver; “don’t you hear what Mrs. Beaver tells you? Who said anything about safe? ‘Course he isn’t safe. But he’s good. He’s the King, I tell you.”
No reason Jadis cannot show up in a nightmare-come-to-life of Ed's. That is where I would anticipate seeing her, personally.
That is a great point ceppault! I wouldn't mind a cameo from Tilda in that context, but...Personally, I'm really sick of how they keep bringing The White Witch back into the story...Ummm...SHE'S DEAD!!!
I wouldn't mind a small cameo from Peter and Susan, and it doesn't bother me that they put them on the poster, as long as they're not on all the posters or the movie cover...
It will be funny when they announce Tilda Swinton will play the Lady of the Green Kirtle.
If I'm not supposed to bring this up, I'll be quiet...But I had a comment on whether or not Jadis and LOTGK are the same...
