But I really think it will do better than PC. But on the flip side of that, I doubt it will do as well as LWW. If I were to guess, I'd guess it will make something in the $600m range.
I also believe that VDT will outperform PC at the box office but make less than LWW. (Making more would be too much to ask.)
I think that the story's appeal will be greater than PC and it should be more fun and magical too. So I would want $450-$500 million as the low end of the range and I think because of the holiday season release date that $600 million is attainable.
If VDT the movie is as good as the book, the box office gross should be more than enough to greenlight The Silver Chair.

There is definitely no "a" in definite.
The Mind earns by doing; the Heart earns by trying.
I will stick to what I said in my last two posts. With FOX at the helm of this film, and with the director that is steering the ship, it needs to make almost as much as LWW did. It definitlly needs to better than PC but even 500 million is not enough in my book. But we will see.
To Narnia and the North!!!!!!!

that might not be entirely true.
X-Men Origins Wolverine only made a little over $370 Million world wide on a $150 Million Budget. and they are still planing a sequel
and Star Trek $384 Million WW, on a $150 Budget and their planing a sequel for that.
and G.I Joe only made $300 Million WW. on a $175 Million Budget and they are planing a sequel.
but you are right it wouldn't look good if it made less then PC, but it will cost about $50/75 Million Less to make then PC did.
and they said themselves they are looking at VOTD as a whole new Franchise. so it might just need to be successful on it's terms. and also if a film doesn't make that big of Profit and it has remarkable reviews. it is almost certain to have a sequel. take a look at Batman Begins. and also it's Domestic Gross is more significant then overseas like "Star Trek" which Made $257 Million Domestically but only $127 Mil Overseas. So say TD makes only $350 Mil but $250 Million of that is domestic. but that will most likely not be the case Because the Narnia films seem to be significantly bigger overseas then they are here. and Fox isn't Disney, I don't think they're as picky with their profits.
But $500+ Mil would be nice.

well, if Eustace The Dragon eats the dead dragon, then that will be rather gross.....
I hope it's gross like in LOTR when Gollum eats the fish!

I think Disney is a lot more guilty of wanting cash cows at the box office than Fox is. Fox has made the Xmen movies and those havent earned hundreds of millions in profit in the box office. I remember reading somewhere that if a studio can make $100 million in PROFIT on the box office alone, that is ideally good enough to continue with a sequel. So if VDT's budget is $150 million, the movie would have to make double that amount since the receipts are split. Throw in roughly $75 million in marketing, and you are looking at a break-even point $375 million. So a $100 million profit at the box office puts the target at $475 million.
Food for thought.. Pirates of the Caribbean 3 had a bloated $300 million budget plus at least $100 million in marketing.. putting its break even point at an inflated $700 million!!! The film crossed the finish line at $960 million worldwide box office - so its profit was $260 million.
IF VDT.. (big IF) can gross as much as LWW did, it would be more profitable than POTC 3!

Anyone who is expecting VDT to make as much as LWW is setting themselves up for disappointment.
If VDT makes over 200 million we should all be very happy. Prince Caspian wasn't that well received by the general public, so that will effect Dawn Treader's first couple of weeks. Hopefully, once word gets around that it is a great film in its own right (assuming it is), we will see the movie begin to succeed financially. The movie that will really benefit from VDT quality if it is good, is going to be The Silver Chair.
If you look at the POTC you'll notice the reason why Dead Man's Chest did SO well financially was because the popularity of the first film. And, the mixed reception of DMC effected the box office of the third film.
The reason LOTR continue to make more money with each film installment was because of the tremendous quality of the films.
VDT just needs to focus on being a great story and film. If it does this it will do just fine, certainly good enough for The Silver Chair to be green lit.
I just don't think we should get in our heads that Dawn Treader will reach LWW heights. However, if the movie is great and well received by the public, we may see The Silver Chair doing as well as LWW.

your right, i definitely dont expect VDT to make $700 million at the box office.. which is overly optimistic. Im expecting a realistic $500 million.
