I voted for 800 mil+. I truely believe from all the good reviews that Dawn Treader is getting from the people who see previews it will do very well. It might not be a perfect movie or even come across with what I believe is the heart of the film but I believe it will do very well.

A lot I hope.... I said 500 to 600 mil.
How much do you think they need to make to have SC greenlit?

I read in an IMDB article that big budget movies usually get 40%-50% of their total box office gross, so assuming that VDT costs $160 million to make, I think that in order for Fox and Walden to cover their costs they will need to make at least $400 to even start making a protofit. So I think the SC won't get green lit until the World Wide Box office total suprasses $500 million. They might even wait until they are closer to $600 Million.

If VDT is the last movie I will be very disappointed I hope to see at least 4 Narnia movies on the big screen

I voted 500-600 which is better than PC but not as well as LWW. I hope it makes enough so that they can continue the series.

I voted $700-800 mil really I'd extend that to 600-800, I think it's gonna be somewhere around LWW, it's beenj getting excellent reviews thusfar. I think as long as they did it right, the 3-D might have a positive impact. The only thing I'm worried about is the poor advertising. I think it will definitely do better that PC. And there's a slim possibility that it might top LWW, but that's a very slim possibility.

It really depends on how well the film does with the fans. If they really like it, they will give it word of mouth. But if they feel its like PC, they will give it bad or mediocre reveiws and it won't do well.

Also I think it depends on how well TRON:Legacy is received. If that movie gets good reviews and does well, it will overshadow Narnia. If not, Narnia should do better.

So, I like reading outside sources on these movies because it sometimes gives me a better grasp of what to expect. No rose colored glasses or ... what would the opposite of that be? Blinders? :)) (Kidding ;) )
Anyways, this article caught me off-guard and I'm not taking that much stock in it as they didn't seem to know that Disney had dropped the series, but I think it's interesting all the same.

Q: My questions this week are a little more like opinion questions: Do you see Disney going the distance and finishing The Chronicles of Narnia? It just feels like there was so much hype for the first one (Lazy Sunday included), and then less for Prince Caspian, and this year I haven't seen anything about Voyage of the Dawn Treader, despite the fact that it comes out in two months!

A: From what I could find neither Disney, nor co-producer 20th Century Fox, have committed to making anymore films outside of the original trilogy that will be completed with Voyage of the Dawn Trader, known as the Pevensie trilogy. Pevensie is the last name of the four children who are the lead characters. They do not appear or are not major characters in the remaining four books by C.S. Lewis on Narnia. The original two films were very profitable with The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe grossing more than $745 million worldwide and Prince Caspian $419 million worldwide. My best guess would place the latest film around $250 million worldwide, with about half that domestically. I do agree that I've seen little push for the film up to this point, but that might change as we get even closer to the release date. Producers might also think that the movie has a built in audience, so why waste money on advertising. If you saw the first two movies, you'll probably see this one. Where the money drop-off comes from is by those who just wait for the DVD. I kind of doubt the rest of the books get made into movies, at least by Disney and at the level of the first three movies.

Well aside from the fact that I completely disagree with pretty much the entire answer, I thought I'd still share with you all. Thoughts?

I do think they need to promote the film more in order to make profit.

Aside from more TV spots, the International Trailer (Trailer 3) should be shown before Megamind, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, and Tangled. Those 3 movies all target the same audience as Narnia and they all will be seen by many.

I would also advise 20th Century Fox to team up with McDonald's to sell VotDT toys with Happy Meals. I know it doesnt sound like a big deal, but really it does interest little kids in the movie. Maybe also imprint a Narnia design on the large coke cups.

I think that VDT will land somewhere between LWW and PC, but I am worried about the lack of advertising. I think it would be a very good idea for them to advertise VDT in front of the HP movie.

How much money do you think it will take before they greenlight SC? If I remember correctly they greenlit PC when LWW had made between 600-650 million WW. I think that once VDT crosses the 450-500 million mark world wide we will get an announcement as to whether or not they are going to go ahead with any more movies.

PC also had a HUGE first few weeks in DVD sales. If VDT is just mediocer in the boxoffice, maybe the SC will get greenlit when VDT comes out on DVD.

But it needs to be the international trailer. I actually think the kiddie teaser trailer for VDT will turn off Harry Potter fans from the movie.

I agree. The international trailer is much more appealing and is more likely to appeal to the HP audience.

I wish their was different timing with the VDT. I think it stands a good change against all other holiday releases.....except HP. Harry Potter is a higher grossing franchise and I think will have a negative effect on VDT World Wide Gross. I think that Tron will be good, but I think the VDT stands a good shot at rivalling it (similar to LWW and KIng Kong).

500-600 million dollars. I'm pretty sure everyone and their mom will probably see it in 3-D, thus boosting sales.

I disagree entirely with their answer of course. They know nothing about the Narnia franchise. They are still speaking as if Disney is still involved with VDT. BTW, I also voted $500-$600, only to find out it's leading the poll. It just makes the most sense, less than LWW but more than PC.

PC aside, don't forget that LWW released just weeks after HP's GoF, domestically it did $1m more or so. Worldwide it didn't come close to Potter but it still made a great load of cash. VDT, in this slot, I don't feel will be affected negatively by Potter.

^ I am still a little worried about Potter, but if as you say a Narnia movie did it once, then it can do it again. :)

I didn't see a thread for this, so I decided to start one. However, if there already is one, I would like a mod to lock this.

I'm just wondering, how everyone expects VDT to do at the box office, and how much it would have to make in order for SC to be given the green-light.

I will also post box office news on here when international numbers start pouring in next weekend, and the domestic numbers in two weeks.

Lets go SC!
