Hey, ya'll, just your friendly neighborhood mermod reminding you to stay on topic. This is the General Movie Discussion about CoN, not about Twilight. While a passing note about it is fine, a full discussion is more suitable to either a thread in the Spare Oom or to the private message system.
Thanks!

Well, according to NarniaFans there is still conflicting information as to whether or not Walden has the rights, so I think this discussion is still relevant.
For me, I think how long I hold out for Walden will depend more on my stage in life than on a set period of time. If my life situation changes drastically, then I suppose I'll start to forget to check NarniaWeb regularly, and that will eventually turn into a "oh yeah, we're still waiting for a fourth
Narnia film aren't we?"

okay I'll stay on topic. (I hate Twilight BTW )
I think that Walden might be slightly ashamed, I mean PC was not the best movie in the world, and neither was VDT. so I hope they learn from their mistakes and make the fourth one one of the best. I would hate it if they made us wait and then the movie was cra- ahem, bad

When Gresham tells us officially that Walden's option has expired.
Movie Aristotle, AKA Risto
By now, I have given up hope that Walden Media will make anymore Narnia films thanks to yesterday's interview with Gresham.
Ah, but alas, that doesn't mean that nobody else will try to make their own version of Narnia. To me, there seem to be getting to be more and more adaptations of something, whether that be a comic book, TV show, book, graphic novel, or even board game.
On a more serious note, Gresham did say that in about 3-4 years from now, that we will probably see another Narnia film in production. (I'm a little confused on what he meant by 3-4 years though. Did he mean we can greenlight another? Start filming another?) Anyways, I'm glad he still has optimism to see another Narnia film.
In the meantime, we still have NarniaWeb and all of these other great Narnia fan sites and all of us fans together. We can still discuss Narnia, considering it is now 61 years old and still being read by many children.
Further up and further in!
Well, we've got a new timeframe: 3-4 years. I've given up on Walden's franchise, but I'm glad we will get another movie in the near future.
Well, with Gresham's announcement, its suddently looking like the "Walden" Narnia franchise is not completely dead. I know that Walden's rights have expired, but for discussion purposes, I will still call it the Walden Narnia franchise (since all of the movies so far have been produced by Walden Media). If 3-4 years is the time frame to begin another Narnia film, then its still not out of the question that all of the actors can reprise their roles. This is almost a win-win situation. Why? Because the franchise will be preserved if they continue with SC or MN. Yet, if they reboot the franchise, then we can look forward to 7 Narnia films instead of 4. This is about as good a news as we will get, so I will take it. Live on, Narnia!
your fellow Telmarine
I will never give up! Movies NEED to made made of ALL the books. But, I'll give up with it and transfer my focus until I hear more positive news. I'll always like the books better than the movie anyway- So I don't need to be too disappointed. Besides, I bet they still want to do the moves but are just having a hard time keeping up the pace and pulling things together.

Since there's no doubt that this news is true, I'm giving up. I frankly think that there's no way they could make movie's any better than the ones they did, and whatever they do, ya'll are going to be disappointed. If they do make movies with complete new actors and everything, in like 5 years, I probably won't be interested enough to see them.
But I'm very grateful for 3 lovely, lovely movies that I can treasure and re-watch again and again. Praise God!

I tend to agree with you. But there are some questions I'd still like to ask, if there is any way I could. Someone like Coracle might be able to answer these questions. These are:
1. When, exactly, did the options expire? If it is only a twelve to 18 months mandatory wait, then some of that time might have already passed. Maybe as much as six months.
2. Did the options Walden had, come with a time limit? In that case, the same thing would happen sooner or later, so maybe this situation was inevitable at some point.
3. Is it possible to divide the options on some of the movies from others? And associated with that question, Wouldn't the previous arrangement, applying to all 7 Narnia films be a tad inflexible by now?
At the moment, Walden has completed 3 of the 7 films, so I doubt very strongly that it would be interested in continuing with the options for those movies. It holds copyright on those productions, and that would be enough. If it were to go for another bout of options, maybe it would be only the remaining four, and another company who was interested might be satisfied to do their own version of the remaining three films. But I could be wrong.
Douglas Gresham said he would like to see all 7 movies being made, and that he hopes that in 3 or 4 years time there would be a Narnia production. Seeing as on IMDb Magician's Nephew is slated for 2014, and Silver Chair for 2015, IMDb's time frame looks more and more realistic. Perhaps they knew something the rest of us never guessed.
If production doesn't start for another 3-4 years, than we won't be seeing the next movie until 2016-2018. Making movies takes time.

Sorry, I should have said: "in three or four years I (Doug Gresham) hope to see a Narnia film in production". It is now October 2011. Three years from now is 2014, when Magician's Nephew is slated to appear anyway. Probably at Christmas 2014. Four years from now is the current date for Silver Chair's release in 2015.
I agree that making movies takes time. The question is, at which part of that time will it be at in 2014? It need not be right at the beginning.
It is awfully funny for me to say on this site in particular. But forgive me for reminding all of you that Rome wasn't built in a day.
In the conversational context, that quote strongly implies that the next movie will start production in 3-4 years. I would still like to know his basis for that prediction. Is he just assuming that companies will jump at the chance to work on a Narnia film as soon as the rights become available? Or has some specific company already come forward saying that they have an interest?
Michael Flaherty, the co-owner of Walden Media, has already expressed he is interested in filming Magician's Nephew in his last interview reported here on NarniaWeb, though he might not be so keen to do other ones in the series.
I also expect that any film-makers who are interested will also be looking for script writers to canvas how they would develop such a movie. Even if they can't do anything formally, 12 to 18 months is long enough to start getting a few ideas together, don't you think?

Hmm, well, if that does happen to be the case, I definitely hope that Walden will not do the rest of the Narnia series.
I have already given up on the Walden series though in general. I think they had the potential to make the Narnia series into something different and epic in its own sense. Unfortunately, I thought that they took the easy way out of it at times. The movies to me seemed good, but not good enough. By the easy way out, I mean at times much unneeded battles were brought in just to have some action. Aslan's character seemed underdeveloped as well to me, and in my opinion He should have been the focus, not the children. (I'm not shaming Walden though; no film is perfect.)
Well, we can always still have hope that another company will decide to come by in 3-4 years time. But what exactly does that mean? I was confused when Douglas Gresham said that. Did he mean that he hoped to see another one being filmed? Or in pre-production? I wish he had been clearer.
Whatever happens, I will still be a Narnia fan. Further up and further in!
