Walden is not announcing anything because both they and Fox are interested in making another movie. But as coracle said, their rights have expired and the decision to continue making movies is completely out of their hands... it belongs to the C.S. Lewis Estate now. And as Walden cannot make any decisions regarding future movies, they can't really make an announcement either. It is possible (not likely, but possible) that they could get the rights again after this certain period of time is over. How stupid would it be for Walden to announce that the series is over, but then obtain the rights again in 5 years time? So that's why we're not hearing anything and probably never will.
As far as my feelings on the topic that was created, I don't think we'll see another Narnia movie for a long time. Probably never again with Walden. But I do believe we'll see another Narnia movie within 5-10 years. I say that because I know it's Doug Gresham's dream to see all 7 books made into movies.
In the meantime, I have no plans to leave NarniaWeb and for anyone who is concerned, Tirian has no plan to shut it down. So we'll still be hanging out here talking about Narnia and pretty much everything else under the sun while waiting for the next movie.
ETA: @Wagga, Micheal Flaherty is still very much alive and well.
The truth is that the arrangement between Walden and the C S Lewis Co has expired. Walden no longer has the rights to make Narnia films but has failed to announce this. I understand there is a waiting time required before another company could be offered the rights.
I hope the Estate will find a suitable partner to resume productions with.
That actually makes sense... as opposed to Walden completely dropping out because of money... That would explain why we haven't heard anything. Question: Assuming that is the case if the CS Lewis Estate agreed to it could they renew the contract immediately or would they have to wait the 5-10 yrs that they agreed to not let anyone else make ore movies? Also (I'm just speculating here) if someone came along and wanted to make a videogame or the like of one of the books that would be impacted by Walden's claim on the movie rights, correct?
But I'm still along the lines that FK is on... I believe we'll see more movies, they might not be by Walden, but we will see them in a while...
Until then I hopefully have a Jurassic Park IV to look forward too... (Ok I will seriously laugh if it takes the same amount of time between VDT and another Narnia movie as it has/will between JPIII and JPIV- though that does mean at least a ten year wait... oi.)
(*Cannot express how happy she is that NW's not shutting down anytime soon*)

*dittoes Wolfy on how happy she is that NW isn't going anywhere*
Well, expired rights makes sense to me too... Wouldn't it be COOL if New Line Cinema picked it up!? 'Course, we'd have to have someone as passionate as Peter Jackson at the helm if we really wanted movies as good as LOTR...
Anyway, if that's what's going on, then I too tend to agree with FK. *nods* And I feel better about it.

There is no such thing as a Painless Lesson
I'm admittedly ignorant on movie rights but why did Walden lose them? I thought they had the intention of doing all seven books in the series. Did the Lewis Estate only grant them the rights for a few years? Did they refuse to let Walden go on because they were dissatisfied with VDT? Hmm.

Peter: I hunch.
Mary Jane: Don't.
I don't think I'll give up easily, I'm as stuborn as a mule.
plus, they might be writing the script for MN or SC but they might be trying to keep it quiet. keep people on their toes, and maybe we'll turn on the TV a coupla years from now and see a preveiw about MN or SC
who knows?

What? Who said that?
If we're to believe the news story, the earliest we'll get a new movie would be around 6-8 years. Do you think it makes sense to continue a series after such a period of time? From a business point, no. Considering one of the things that was said about the CON movie series as is was that between each movie there was too much time, we hardly have any chance this will get picked up again.
This series is over.
I think we will likley see another Narnia film made someday. These days, Hollywood will gobble up just about ANYTHING that has name recognition. They are making a movie out of Stretch Armstrong (yes, the toy) and Battleship (yes, the board game) for heavens sake.
They recently released a Planet of the Apes prequel, which was also kind of a reboot at the same time. They are also working on a Blade Runner sequel or prequel. They already made a fourth Indiana Jones after a 20-year break. The list goes on.
I think we can expect to see a Magician's Nephew movie in the next decade or two.
recieved the news about Walden's rights expiering with a bit of dispair, I have sort of given up on the series, as in I have given up on the series as we know them, sure they may make more.....someday, but they will obviously be very different and who knows when....if at all. At this moment I don't really care, I'm disapointed and a little discouraged, but really, I didn't expect more

I think right now would be a time for us to live like Lucy in Prince Caspian. I've said this before already, but when the other siblings and Narnians had lost Aslan(or so they thought), Lucy was persistent that she had seen Aslan and she kept on looking, and she found Him.
Even if people have lost faith in the Walden adaptations, I have not given up hope that there will never be another Narnia film adaptation. I will, like Lucy, keep looking what I'm looking for until I find it, even if the other fans think this is ridiculous.
But hey, I will always cherish the books many times more than any Narnia film to ever come. I think this would be a great time to read them again and debate about those, since NarniaWeb isn't just about Narnia movies, but also anything else Narnia.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!
I wrote a letter to Walden and the Estate on my Yahoo Contributor Network blog. In it I said that in the first three films, but especially in VDT, the movie franchise has lost sight of Aslan - just like everyone except Lucy in PC! The draw of the books is Aslan. So the draw of the movies should be Aslan. And this is where the franchise has failed, against the success of Harry Potter and Twilight. Moviegoers see a savior/redeemer in Harry Potter, and a perfect lover/bridegroom in Edward Cullen. They need to see these roles, and others, in Narnia's Aslan.
Please don't compare Jesus to Edward Cullen. Twilight is about abusive relationships disguised as romance.

Have you read any of the Twilight books? Barring the fact that Edward is a vampire (I skipped some of that stuff in Breaking Dawn, along with the wolves), his and Bella's relationship is not abusive. It's loving, beautiful, sacrificial. Vampirism is obviously the wrong package to present such a relationship, since real vampires are nothing like Mrs. Meyers' imagination. Yet this doesn't negate the truths expressed in Ed and Bella's relationship in the books (and less so in the movies). And this is where the Narnia franchise needs to step up to the plate and show moviegoers true sacrifice, true love, true beauty, and true marriage. Twilight is simply a pale shadow of the real thing that Meyers (and others) have presented to the world.
Real vampires? There are no real vampires. A writer can write a vampire anyway they want because of the very fact that they are not real.
