How likely are you to go see the new Narnia movie if Aslan is a female lion?

If Aslan is changed to a female lion in Netflix's upcoming Narnia movie, how would this change impact your desire to see the film?

In the replies, feel free to elaborate on your choice, or explain how other scenarios (e.g. a male Aslan with a female voice actress) might alter your decision.

If you think that you will need to see the movie for your job or with family, vote according to your personal wishes, not obligations.

Honestly, this will have zero impact on whether I see the film in theatres or not.

Even if the film is a catastrophic trainwreck, I will still be seeing the film in theatres on Day 1 so that I can discuss the aforementioned trainwreck with other Narniawebbers on these forums. 😏

I will not spend my money on it if it's even a female voiced for what should be a male character. I don't want to support anything that far off base from the original story and the Chronicles as a whole. I'm honestly even skeptical about watching it with a third child actor in there. All of it hints at major story rewrites that could jeopardize the themes and meaning written by Lewis.

I'd still see it, but I doubt it could ever be a really great adaptation. I know that sounds overdramatic when it's just one thing about one character, but it just seems like such a pointless and (for fans) distracting change. As I've said before, even if everything else is wonderful, Aslan being a lioness would be like an annoying beeping noise in the background. EDIT: The most for which I could hope would be a good guilty pleasure.

I voted "little to no effect" for much the same reason as @icarus. Even if the movie turns out to be so completely off the mark that I feel like jumping up and down and screaming at the screen in frustration (which I wouldn't actually do in a cinema, don't worry), I cannot fairly criticise it if I haven't actually seen it.

It's the same deal for me as with the previous film adaptations of Narnia. I went to see the Walden film of LWW 20 years ago, and I was bitterly disappointed by it. But I've seen it, so I'm able to explain exactly what I thought was wrong with it (and the things I felt it did well, too). I've never seen the two sequels — precisely because the first film put me off — so I avoid making any comments on those.

I can understand why some fans would decide not to give their money to a company that has (possibly) produced a Narnia adaptation that strays so far from Lewis's intentions — especially with regard to Aslan — that it's basically a desecration. In a way, I'd also rather not spend my money on it either. But I do genuinely want to see what they've done with it before I pass judgment, and unfortunately I don't think I have any close friends with a Netflix subscription (that's the only way I could get out of paying to see it myself — watching it on Netflix at someone else's place Giggle ). So I think I'll just have to fork out for an IMAX ticket the one time and be done with it.

"Now you are a lioness," said Aslan. "And now all Narnia will be renewed."

I haven’t decided yet whether I’m going to see it.  If it is a really poor adaptation I am reluctant to support it with my money. I have some curiosity to see what it will be like, but I am not entirely sure if it will be worth paying for the ticket. It would be nice to have some reviews and possibly a trailer to show what the movie is like.

While I echo the sentiment of others that there’s a fair chance I may still watch it just so that I know exactly what I’m talking about, I had to say much less likely to watch it. My immediate feeling when this rumor came out was utter dread and horror, and while I’ve had time to calm down and look at things from other angles and try to find alternatives to keep me somewhat optimistic, at the end of the day if things really do go forward the way it looks on the face of it, that’s one of the biggest turn-offs you could possibly curse this adaptation with. I said elsewhere that I think the only things that could possibly be worse would be to paint Aslan as some sort of unfair or even cruel figure with Susan as a victim of the patriarchy, or to make the whole thing an irreverent comedy in the style of something like Taika Waititi’s Thor movies or similar recent MCU projects more focused on one-liners and innuendo than story. Barring those that I think are thankfully extremely unlikely to ever happen in any future adaptation, the current real possibility of Aslan being female is the worst change you could make, and certainly the most offensive and blasphemous to Christian fans. It would feel like dressing up my God in a different skin because they didn’t like Him as He really is and that’s just not something I feel comfortable supporting. Rather than watching it myself I would likely wait to see the full ‘debriefing’ from those who did choose to take one for the team so they could lay out exactly what went down and I can decide how I feel about it once the facts are in front of me. I’ve done that with other things that I couldn’t bring myself to watch and I’m perfectly willing to do so again. If it turns out to be as bad as it sounds, I don’t know if I could do it.

No matter what, I'm absolutely going to see Greta Gerwig’s Narnia. My first introduction to C.S. Lewis’s world wasn’t even through the books, it was the old BBC television series. It wasn’t the most high-budget or polished adaptation, but something about it completely captured my imagination. It made me fall in love with the story and eventually led me to read the books themselves. That experience taught me early on that adaptations don’t have to be perfect mirrors of the source material to be meaningful or transformative.

Every version brings something different to the table, and that’s part of what I find so exciting about them. I’ve always believed that adaptations are interpretations; reflections of both the original work and the person telling the story. Greta Gerwig is a filmmaker I trust to bring thoughtfulness, heart, and a unique perspective to anything she touches. Even if her Narnia isn’t exactly what I might have pictured, I know it will be worth seeing, worth thinking about, and worth experiencing on its own terms.

I just can't envision myself not seeing a new Narnia movie at least once, so I voted for "little/no effect on my choice to see the movie".
