I honestly don't care anymore. I would like to see the Silver Chair as a movie, but after these messups, I don't think it's possible. Besides, considering the amount of money VDT is making, I think it's very unlikely the Silver Chair will be able to made--VDT is just not making the cut.
I would rather see no Silver Chair than something like Prince Caspian or Voyage of the Dawn Treader.

I don't know how to feel about SC as I still don't know how I feel about VDT. I do want to see SC, but if it is as rushed as VDT, I don't know how much I would like it. I still want to give them another chance though because I loved LWW and PC. Ilalso liked parts of VDT, but did not feel satisfied as a result of the pacing.

I think what has me more worried is what Apted and other production members are saying. They don't have confidence in the source material and do not like the fact that there are different characters in each of the books.

Nonetheles, I think I do want to give it another try. Though, I'm pretty depressed about the boxoffice numbers. :((

Though I have yet to see VDT (I'll see the film by Friday), I felt that the movie might be the last Narnia adaptation that Walden might do. VDT earned only $9 million on the first day in the US and it's very disappointing. And perhaps the opening weekend might not be that spectacular since it's in stiff competition with "Tangled", "HP 7.1", and most of all, "Tron: Legacy" (minus the Oscar-buzz movies "Black Swan", "The King's Speech", "The Fighter", "True Grit", and "The Way Back"). There are some mistakes that the Narnia series should correct: screenplay, directing, effects, acting, and most of all, marketing and advertising. Perhaps they should change the scriptwriters and director. I prefer Guillermo del Toro to direct SC. Actually, he was first offered to direct LWW but declined to do Pan's Labyrinth. I hope he does direct SC! Or if not, why not get the Coen Brothers (two heads are WAY better than one), Kathryn Bigelow (suspense is good), Tim Burton (best choice I could get minus the Johnny Depp factor), Ang Lee, Kenneth Branagh (but the problem is, he already starred in Harry Potter 2 but this doesn't matter anymore), Danny Boyle, and Peter Jackson (if only he didn't have The Hobbit, might as well direct Narnia).

Well, that's all for now. :)

I think that in a way, VDT is a bit hard to adapt, because they don't think it has a "oh, we have to save the world" sort of feel.

Think about it:
In LWW, the kids have to stop the White Witch from taking over Narnia
In PC, the kids have to stop Miraz/Telmarines from taking over Narnia
In SC, the kids have to stop LGK from taking over Overworld/Narnia
In MN, the kids have to get the apple to keep the WW from taking over
In HHB, the kids have to get to Archenland to warn of the approaching Calormens who wish to then take over Narnia
In LB, the kids have to fight and attempt to stop the Calormens from taking over Narnia

Every book in the Chronicles, other than VDT, deals with the protagonists trying to prevent the antagonists from taking over Narnia. It's all about saving Narnia, and the Green Mist substituted for that. The Dark Island and the Green Mist wanted to take over Narnia, get the slaves as sacrifices, etc.

SC, like all the other books other than VDT, has just that, a "we have to save Narnia" plotline, and for that reason, I don't think many changes will be made, and we will have a hopefully, more faithful adaptation.

"I'm a beast I am, and a Badger what's more. We don't change. We hold on. I say great good will come of it... And we beasts remember, even if Dwarfs forget, that Narnia was never right except when a son of Adam was King." -Trufflehunter

Trufflehunter, I agree. VDT was probably going to be one of the hardest movies to adapt because there really is no villain, no overarching plot (other than finding seven lost lords). While I like the book as a series of mini-adventures, that might not have worked so well in movie form.

SC, on the other hand, has a lot of the elements VDT doesn't - the need to save Narnia from a villain, in particular. So I really, really hope they do SC, and I think I'll like it even if they do make some changes. At any rate, Will Poulter's performance is something I really want to see again, as well as seeing who they play Jill Pole. The Silver Chair is one of my favorite of the Chronicles, and I've been looking forward to them making it for a long time.

Also, Walden Media has expressed a strong desire to keep making these movies. So I hope they'll do anything in their power to do so, regardless of VDT's box office earnings. Even though PC didn't do as well as LWW, they still made VDT. I can only hope they realize that there are some diehard fans who want them to continue, regardless of the box office earnings. ;)

I would love to see Silver Chair, It may be the last chance the franchise has to prove to the public how awesome Narnia is! I would REALLY like to see the Horse and His Boy made into a movie, It is the easiest to adapt to screen because it's a simple (comparably) plot and has everything hollywood loves, orphan-turned royal, twin brother, action, romance, etc. WillMo for_the_win, I have to disagree suggesting Tim Burton. As much as i enjoy some of his movies, and love Johnny Depp, I don't think he should direct SC! Peter Jackson, however, is a different story :) The world could use more dedicated book lover directors who also know how to make a great movie.

I hope, however, that they NEVER attempt the Last Battle. I do not have the faith in any movie company, script writer, or director to entrust them with putting the Last Battle on screen and doing it right.

If you want them to do all 7 books, that does include Last Battle too! You can't just expect them to make 6 of them if they decide to make the rest.

Well, one nice thing about Spence is that seeing him in one part, especially bearded and bedraggled as Lord Rhoop was, won't disqualify him from being in different makeup as Puddleglum. He's a good enough actor, and the makeup will be extensive enough, that it won't be any more distracting than say, John Rhys-Davies as Gimli AND Treebeard.

But JRD didn't actually pose AS Treebeard, he just did his voice.

There, shining in the sunrise, larger than they had seen him before, shaking his mane (for it had apparently grown again) stood Aslan himself.

Oh I couldn't bear it if they didn't make Silver Chair! It's my favourite book, and as Trufflehunter said up top of the page, it has a much easier plot to adapt to the big screen than VDT.
While I was a bit disappointed with some aspects of VDT, the pacing in the first half for example, I quite enjoyed it as a movie. It was a reasonable adaption, even if I do have to lock my die-hard self in a chest and bury it. I understand why they made the changes they did, though I'm not sure I want Apted back to direct another movie.
He's not shown much love for the books he's working on, and he's not shown much faith in it. One of his quotes really bothered me. I really do want another director and maybe some new screenwriters while they're at it. I LOVE one of the suggestions up the screen- Peter Jackson would do a wonderful job! He's such a great director, and he really feels what he's doing.
I do have to admit though, I will loose a lot of my faith in the movie series if they mess up Silver Chair. It's one of their last chances to utterly revive the series, and they can't waste Will Poulter's incredible acting. I'm willing to give Walden a go at making another decently good movie.

I stand with the Lord at my side, always.

Be the change you want to see in the world.

I can't help it. I want them to make them all. I would like someone else to remake everything a decade or so from now, but I would like to get what I can now. The books are my bread and butter - but I do like the visuals - I like seeing characters fleshed out. I can always watch something for what I like, and then go back to the books. Please make The Silver Chair! Please make The Magician's Nephew!! Please please!!

VotDT was a debacle?! Did we watch the same movie?? lol

Most people aren't so crazy about the books as we are. They don't want perfection and word-for-word adaptions. Speaking from experience, they want a great movie. LotR for example. They changed quite a lot. But did it so well it went on to win Academy Awards.

It wasn't that they changed stuff in PC that made it do badly: it was the poor acting, cheesy accents, the power struggles. Yes, they changed stuff in VotDT, they added a some ridiculous things. And yet it was so Narnian. The level of detail was incredible. They captured the heart of it, I thought.

I say get new screenwriters, but by all means make Silver Chair. Eustace is outstanding. All else they need is a good Jill and Puddleglum. The effects and overall feel is IMO spot on.

They're not going to perfect. They will never ever be just how I imagined it. There will always be things I and everyone else doesn't like. Don't hope for a perfect movie, and they won't be near so bad.

My two cents. Sorry it's so long.

I desperately want to see the Silver Chair. Believe it or not, LWW, PC & VDT are my three LEAST favorite books. So if I was thoroughly satisfied with those movies, the Im sure I will be on Cloud 9 with the Silver Chair.

Sadly, the box office for VDT isnt in Silver Chairs favor. But I do agree with the difficulty in adapting VDT. After all, look at how much island condensing they did and it still came out frantically paced. That just shows the episodic nature of this novel.

I'm so nervous about this coming weekend and hoping against all hope that we have a favorable % drop in the US box office.. as well as continued success in the international box office. Please, please... PLEASE lets have a SC... the movies havce been wonderful so far!

That's what I love about the book. It's so different. It stands apart from almost every other fantasy book (even the other Narnia books). Lewis did not conform to fantasy cliches and conventions. He managed to make an exciting story without a villain.

What the filmmakers did is totally rob VDT of something that makes it special. They took something unique and turned it into "been there, done that."

I still am hoping for Silver Chair because of Lilliandil and Caspian, and! Eustace's journey with Jill Hope. Eustace is the reason why I am hoping for SC.
