I hope Silver Chair is greenlit, giving them one more chance to do a decent movie that stands up along with LWW as a good Narnia movie. But most particularly so that Will Poulter has another chance to act as Eustace, probably a shallow reason. I do agree they had many missed opportunities with VDT....it seriously had the potential to outstrip LWW. Part of me wonders though if Walden should just change the medium to TV instead of big Hollywood movie as the TV miniseries format might work better and force the producers to be more faithful to the source material since the box office pressure would be removed. But that's probably wishful thinking.
Part of me also agrees with those who don't want Silver Chair to get made because Walden already had the two chances with PC and VDT. So I'm mixed on this.

I kind of feel the same way as you Edmund_is_King but I don't feel as if I should give up with trying to be heard by these crew members who work on the films. They can still turn things around, it'll end for me if they ever get to SC and Caspian is still fonding over Susan's looks or a Eustace/Jill, Jill/Rilian romance starts. I'll never support a narnia film again! I only thought the mistakes in VDT was adding Caspian's line "None can compare to your sister." and not developing Caspian's/Lilliandil's story. That was all that bothered me, but easily fixable if SC gets made and they listen to the true book fans and Gresham this time! They will not lose money by following the books characters!!!!!!
I'm sure that is exaggerating what happened in the film. As people who have seen it have pointed out, it wasn't just Susan's bow but all of their things. Even Edmund's torch. And they all were pictured in Caspian's cabin, not just Susan. I'm sure what Caspian said was something tactful to Lucy, which given her feelings of insecurity about growing up and her sister's looks, turned out to be a rather tactless lead up to Lucy's beauty spell adventure. In any case Caspian's remark in the film was not nearly as bad as the book Caspian's disparaging remarks about the Duke of Galma's daughter's looks. As C.S.Lewis, himself, would have said, beauty isn't everything.
Wow dude I already know that! I said this same thing in a different forum on here! Besides in the book Caspian said he didn't like freckles. Susan has Freckles and squints at times!!!!!!!!!!!
Long Live King Caspian & Queen Liliandil Forever!
Jill+Tirian! Let there be Jilrian!
SC is the easiest to adapt. And APTED WON'T COME BACK!!
I wouldn't count on the producers/Fox seeing the ease of adaption. Haven't we already heard it called "A walking and talking book" - as in "Oh noes! That won't work in movie format!" *shudders*
I hope Silver Chair is greenlit... most particularly so that Will Poulter has another chance to act as Eustace, probably a shallow reason.
Heh, me too. And I really want to see Jill! Though BBC did a great job picking their Jill.
The cost outweighs the benefit. LWW and PC are okay films....but they are not worth having to live with VDT.
To my own shock I agree with glumpuddle! Sure, there are some very good points to VDT, but essentially they ripped apart my favorite Chronicle! That green mist seeps into everything; beloved scenes are poisoned by it's insidious appearance. If SC is to be messed up to the same extent, I'd rather not have it made. Right now, there's nothing to show that won't be the case.
Markus and McFeely are the problem. They've been around since LWW with their screenwriting, which is ultimately what makes or breaks a movie. Hopefully for SC Walden will realize this and get some new screenwriters.
Yes, I'm definitely ready for Markus and McFeely to go. But I don't think you can shift all the blame off of Apted. ... This film was definitely his film.
Yes! Almost everyone needs to be new for SC -exceptions include Isis Mussenden, Howard Berger, and perhaps David Arnold. Maybe then we'll have a chance.

GlumPuddle, why did you hate VDT (movie)? I didn't like some of the changes, but in my opinion, it captured the spirit of Narnia far more than PC. The acting was the best the series has ever had (especially Poulter), and it wasn't just endless battle sequences like PC. The movie wasn't as good as it could have been, as it was very cheesy at times, but overall, it was better than PC by a country mile (at least in my opinion).
I really hope SC gets made, even though it is not my favorite book. If it doesn't get made, then we'll have to wait 20+ years for someone to reboot the series. And if SC is not made, there is no chance of MN being made (my favorite book)!
Lets go SC!
And I really want to see Jill! Though BBC did a great job picking their Jill.
Yeah, I hope they would cast a Jill that was in line with Camilla Power from the BBC TV version too.

My thoughts exactly, I definitely captured the spirit of the book. The End of the World scene alone was enough to redeem the movie from any of changes made, it was that good! And Eustace an Reep were perfect and so was the Dawn Treader. And Dufflepuds were just as funny as they were in the book, I'm only mentioning a few things I liked about it.
If you can't be a Narnia purist on Narnia web, where can you be?
Personally, though I'm very critical of the movies because I am so in love with the books, I still hope for Silver Chair. They might have a chance to get it right, to me it feels like each movie they get a few more important things right, with this one it was characters like Reep and Eustace, so i have hope!

I would definitely hope to see the Silver Chair made into a movie. I thoroughly enjoyed Will Poulter's performance as Eustace, and would very much enjoy seeing him playing Eustace in the SC.
I think he would make the movie better than it could be, and if they tweak SC as much as VDT, or less than, then I think it will be a movie worth seeing.

Good then. Because I hated that bit in VDT where book Caspian doesn't like squints and freckles. Especially as in SC if we see King Caspian at all, Susan will have nothing to do with it. It will be as an old man, dying of a broken heart over his beautiful and wise dead wife, Lilliandil, and their missing son, Rilian. In that case, it will be not only Ben Barnes returning to play the risen Caspian (I hope). It will be Laura Brent doing a dying scene on her own behalf.

Precisely. Not only MN, but HHB too, my favourite book. And it is unlikely I can live that long for someone else to want to try these books. All of which have something useful to say about life, love and a person's choices.

Hopefully they'll tweak SC much less than VDT. SC does not need major messing with.

Just re-read the SC, and it'll make a pretty good movie, as long as they don't screw with it too much. There are some parts that will be a little hokey and people will complain constantly with LotR references. (try and tell me the Under World scenes won't be just like the Mines of Moria.)
By the way... Bruce Spence for Puddleglum. All the way.
I've definitely felt (and still sometimes do feel) that way.
I wish that we had an entirely different distributor, different director, different producers, different screenwriters, and different crew.
But as much as I sometimes feel that it wouldn't be worth continuing on with the series, I also just can't bear the thought of never seeing the likes of 'Last Battle'. So my selfishness win over what's best for the series.....always....

Nice choice! I'd second it if he hadn't already played Lord Rhoop. And if I didn't also think that Alan Rickman might make a good Puddleglum. He's already played Snape not to mention Marvin the depressed robot from 'A hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy'.
Well, one nice thing about Spence is that seeing him in one part, especially bearded and bedraggled as Lord Rhoop was, won't disqualify him from being in different makeup as Puddleglum. He's a good enough actor, and the makeup will be extensive enough, that it won't be any more distracting than say, John Rhys-Davies as Gimli AND Treebeard.

The Last Battle is my second favorite book and i hope no one ever trys to make it a movie, I crindge at the thought of what that may be like.
