I would like to kindly say that if you didn't like VDT, no one is making you watch the movies
This comment is not kind. It is, in fact, quite rude.
Even you admit there are differences between the books and the movies. These upset some of us greatly; they don't you, and that is fine. This does not make you less a fan of the books, nor do I. There seems to be a dreadful attitude towards purists on these forums -- as if we just need to get over ourselves, or simply go away.
Of course, no one is making us see the movies. Except maybe ourselves. We go for the reason the rest of you go: because, after all, they are Narnian movies, and we have loved Narnia for years. When it is not recreated to our standards, is it wrong that we be disappointed? And that we would wish for the cycle of disappointment to end?

I kind of feel the same way as you Edmund_is_King but I don't feel as if I should give up with trying to be heard by these crew members who work on the films. They can still turn things around, it'll end for me if they ever get to SC and Caspian is still fonding over Susan's looks or a Eustace/Jill, Jill/Rilian romance starts. I'll never support a narnia film again! I only thought the mistakes in VDT was adding Caspian's line "None can compare to your sister." and not developing Caspian's/Lilliandil's story. That was all that bothered me, but easily fixable if SC gets made and they listen to the true book fans and Gresham this time! They will not lose money by following the books characters!!!!!!
Long Live King Caspian & Queen Liliandil Forever!
Jill+Tirian! Let there be Jilrian!
Gosh, the movie was not bad. There were a couple of confusing things, and some things that I didn't like, but I was overall very pleased with the movie. I think that that is also the general consensus of the NW's and public thought, too.
They didn't ruin the book. They are separate things. The movie got a lot of things right. Like the Dufflepuds, the sea serpent, the dragon, and the End of the World. The special effects were awesome. There were a couple of things they goofed up on, like the Lone Islands, Ramandu's Island, and to a certain extent, the undragoning.
But overall, I loved the film.
The only thing that makes me embarrassed to be a Narnia fan is the way the movie is doing at the box office.
Lets go SC!

well no one expects to have nasty weather on opening weekend
lysander, please forgive me for being rude or unkind. You're obviously welcome to dislike the movies, I'm not saying that you have to like the movies. I'm simply discouraged when people don't like them since I love them so much and want them to continue.
So no one but mods can ask someone to be a leeeeeetle more polite?

I SOOOOOOO hope they make "The Silver Chair"! I've been reading the book for the first time and LOVE it; it would make a fantastic film!!
"Lucy, have you seen this ship before?"
"Yes! It's very Narnian-looking, isn't it?"
It is very important to separate films for the books. They will never be exactly like books and you need to love both as separate things. An example will be the Harry Potter films. The 3rd-6th films are nothing at all like the books but you need to love them separately.
I would love to see what they do with Silver Chair. So what if its nothing like the book? They will have the central characters: Eustace, Jill, Puddleglum, LotGK, ect.
I think you are a little too extreme wanting them NOT to make the book into a film. You shouldn't be ashamed to be a Narnia fan. You can be a fan of the books. I have a friend a school that doesn't watch the new films because she cannot separate the books from the films. If you don't like the films, don't watch them. You can still love the books. The books will never change and they are always there.

I follow the movies so closely because they are based off of my favorite books. If the books didn't exist, would I think twice about this franchise? Unlikely. That's why I find it impossible to completely separate the two from each other. Yes, some changes can be understandable, but when others are done in such a sloppy way with hardly any effort to stay faithful to the tone and feeling of the original stories, I'll always have problems with that. And we've seen those problems occur quite a bit in the franchise so far, especially with PC and VDT. I may still enjoy the films to a degree, but I don't "need to love" them because frankly I don't.
As much a I want to see The Silver Chair on the big screen, my favorite book in the series, I wonder what excuses the filmmakers will have next to justify more major plot changes in the hope of selling more tickets.
I also don't feel that Fox will give SC a proper running time to be effective especially if VDT doesn't perform very well. VDT was far too short and it really hurt the storytelling and I don't want that to happen to future films.

Peter: I hunch.
Mary Jane: Don't.

I think that could happen regardless who was distributing the films. Perhaps a change in who writes the film would be better.
I hate to say this. But at this point.... I will be disappointed if SC is green-lit.
The cost outweighs the benefit. LWW and PC are okay films....but they are not worth having to live with VDT. I say end the series now. I'm done.

I'm not quite where you are now. For me I am still willing to give the Silver Chair a chance. I feel if that film is great I will love the movie series. But if they screw up that book, I will not want the series to continue.

Even if they were to green light SC if it doesn't bring in the money they won't be making them anymore.
It has nothing to do with how the books are done IMO. You can have the perfect adaptation and yet still do bad in box office.

I'm sure that is exaggerating what happened in the film. As people who have seen it have pointed out, it wasn't just Susan's bow but all of their things. Even Edmund's torch. And they all were pictured in Caspian's cabin, not just Susan. I'm sure what Caspian said was something tactful to Lucy, which given her feelings of insecurity about growing up and her sister's looks, turned out to be a rather tactless lead up to Lucy's beauty spell adventure. In any case Caspian's remark in the film was not nearly as bad as the book Caspian's disparaging remarks about the Duke of Galma's daughter's looks. As C.S.Lewis, himself, would have said, beauty isn't everything.
I rather expect that with all the things he had done up to his going on his Dawn Treader trip, film Caspian had simply not had either the time or the energy to go looking for a queen, and it is only Lucy's asking that reminded him. Whereas Susan, judging by her postcard, had made looking for boyfriends a priority.
In any case, unlike the disappointed starter of this thread, I do most earnestly want Silver chair to be made, nevertheless, and Horse and his Boy and MN as well. Though I concede it would be a miracle if they do get to do all of these, let alone proceeding to the end of the series to LB, probably the least popular of the series, generally speaking, because of how people perceive Susan is treated in it.
I certainly hope that "The Silver Chair" is created next. I think it has the potential to be much better than VDT depending on how they approach it.
