Hello fellow Narnia lovers,
I'm just wondering if any of you are like me, that we're so fed up with the VODT debacle, that you don't ever want to see what they will do with the Silver Chair. I mean if you don't get if the first time around with PC that people don't like you straying away from the books why are you gonna get in the second time.
I'm at the point were I feel embarresed to be a Narnia fan. I can't even bare to think about how bad they screwed this movie up and with this trend going on I seriously hope that they do not make the Silver Chair. It would just be another movie that would be a stab in the back...
With this movie not only insulting my inteligence but also making me feel ashamed that I even went to saw it. I don't think I can go though another experiance of going though the hope of a good movie that captures some degree of the book, and yet everytime they dash it on the rocks.
As of this moment I no longer care about Narnia film franchise I hope they just end it as it is to save future pain and frustration.
After slapping me in the face with PC and kniving me in the back with VODT I got nothing more to give to these movies...
Just wondering if anyone else has the same feelings in hope that they don't make the Silver Chair?

Before the movie came out i was always of the opinion that in spite of all the changes made to VDT, that i had no reason to be concerned about the adaptation of Silver Chair because it is by far one of the most straightfoward of the books to adapt - it doesn't suffer from any of the narrative structure problems that PC and VDT both have, and is instead a fairly direct, linear adventure story, with a sufficient amount of drive, action and tension to keep things moving along without the need for any much changes.
However i would have to say that in the end, 90% of the problems with the VDT movie were not due to the changes, but rather due to some very basic lapses in the concept of storytelling and equally basic deficiencies in purely cinematic standards. The fact was that regardless of your philosophy on changes to the source material, none of the added plot elements managed to even succeed on its own terms, or to achieve the very purpose for which it was designed for. And that's the most disappointing thing for me.
I am still hopeful for Silver Chair. I want to believe that given the chance its something they could get right. Perhaps it might not turn out so great either, but at least then we as Narnia fans would have two neat matching sets of 4 BBC TV Series adaptations and 4 Walden Media Movie adaptations, and i think that most of us could probably be quite content with that.
As a narnia Fan I have enjoy all three films how ever I have not read any of the books as of yet, but I am hopeful that they will make at least one more film being Silver Chair, as I would like to see the development of the series as I read the books aswell over the next year or so. I think everyone fan has thier own ideas of how a film should be made and but in the end it is the interpretation of the director and crew who are responsible in making the decision.
I think what might let VOTDT down was that there were no realy fight scenes as was in the first two films, and I know there are no real fights in the VOTDT novel.
I think they added extra bits and pieces to this film to try to enhance the story line for fans of the movies who have no real desire to read the books and add a few more elements into the film that might make up for the lack of fights, but in doing so there was no real continuity between story lines and places visited.
I think also with this film seeing as they were on the Dawn treader for most of the film, they could no really show Narnia as another world, because they filmed mainly on the boat and 2-3 other islands. I know fans have complained about this, but the film was named after the boat.
I myself did not mind the movie and am planning to go and see it at least another 1-2 more times, but I do not have much to compare it too seeing as I have not read the novel yet.

I really am hoping that there will be a Silver Chair movie. If Walden and Fox throw in the towel now, after having gotten the two non-cinematic books out of the way, they seriously don't know the source material.
The remaining four books are cinematic enough that they don't need much to be changed to make them into good films. Hopefully, the filmmakers realize this and give it another go, even if VDT doesn't quite meet their expectations.
The Silver Chair is my favorite Narnia book and I need to see a big screen adaptation.
PC and VDT are the hardest to adapt so thats why they didnt work.
SC is the easiest to adapt. And APTED WON'T COME BACK!!!

Edmund_is_King,
I really hope that The Silver Chair gets made. I see you've been frustrated with PC and VDT, you can always act as if SC isn't getting made and avoid all the frustration. But there is a larger fanbase who would enjoy and want The Silver Chair.
I was very happy with VDT, and I really really want them to do more. *goes to see it 10 more times*

I have to say I was pretty happy with VotDT, and I hope they make Silver Chair. I understand that it could not be a great film, but I would like to give them a chance!

To me, Apted isn't the problem. Markus and McFeely are the problem. They've been around since LWW with their screenwriting, which is ultimately what makes or breaks a movie. Hopefully for SC Walden will realize this and get some new screenwriters.
Personally I'm in favor of all of them being made, no matter how horribly they're done. At least they'll get people slightly familiar with the Narnia and then *maybe* they'll read them. In a perfect world, the movies would be exactly like the books and all would be love and happiness
Bring it on, Silver Chair!

How do you know this? Didn't he say in a recent interview that he was open to making another film?

Yes, I'm definitely ready for Markus and McFeely to go. But I don't think you can shift all the blame off of Apted. If you read any of his interviews, you can see that he has little faith in the stories, that it was partially his idea to make all the changes, etc. This film was definitely his film.

Or they'll assume they're awful too, just because the movies are.
I'm very much ready for this franchise to be over. I know I'll see every single movie in theaters as they come out, but every time I've gone I've been disappointed to some extent (in LWW least of all, though). I have no hopes that any of the films will be improvements.

I know lots of you think I'm over reacting, but this is my view.
@Ericnovak in my opinion you're completely wrong the last thing we need is for them to go on with the series, and for the outside world to see them and thing that narnia fans look stupid.
I can no longer say I'm a fan of the movies
At this point my one and only hope is that they discontinue the series in hope that they're able to restart it or pick it up another time when someone is thinking better...
Can anyone even imagine imagine what the Last Battle debacle is gonna be like
@icarus The Silver Chair yes they have alot to go with in the book, but it wasn't that they didn't stick to the book in this movie as much as everything else was bad but they didn't at all stick near the book ether

I didn't have much faith in VDT as a movie as it is in the book, either. It just simply isn't there. I have seen Apted saying that SC is a better book, which I would agree with.
I really think they SHOULD make Silver Chair It will be cool to see what they do with it. VDT was simply awesome, in my opinion. So, I'll support Silver Chair all the way if they make it!

I totally agree with Lover of Narnia. I think they SHOULD make Silver Chair too. It would be a shame not to use Will Poulter, for one thing! Obviously there are many other reasons!
I would like to kindly say that if you didn't like VDT, no one is making you watch the movies, but I know that many fans of Narnia, myself included, those who love the books AND movies, despite the differences, would be TERRIBLY disappointed if they didn't make SC! And not only SC, but they should continue to the end of the series!
