Did anyone else have the feeling at time that they were watching a really big budgeted home movie when watching the VDT. I think it was mainly the camera work that did this, the camera was never held still a shook half the time and most of the shots were all in the peoples face. That plus the lame script with no real heart to it and the rushed story made it feel sort of like a home movie.
Don't take this the wrong way I really liked the film and I think it captured a whole lot of the book but it just felt really cheap at times.
I never got this vibe, if you did it was probably because it was shot in HD like Public Enemies (have you seen that film? the cinematography is similar). I personally don't like HD, it's really annoying but it was toned down somewhat with all the 3D-ness. Did you see it in 3D?
No, it was 2D. It wasn't the HD but the camera was always shaking and it was always zoomed up in their faces
we seen the movie in 3D, it was AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
it felt like the movie actually come towards u!
Christmas is Coming so soon
but we know the True Reason for the season
Sorry but no. It looked professional.

It was the professional kind of shaky-cam. Not quite my thing, but it might have helped if my theater was actually projecting it properly. I'll have to wait until DVD to see it the way Dante Spinotti actually shot it!
But (beware, filmmaker techie talk), you should notice that there was no actual zooming. It was walking forward. Always. Zooming is the difference now, it seems, between home videos and pro videos.
No what I mean't by the zooming was that it was always going way up into the peoples faces.
it definitely looked professional. but i see what you mean, shaking cameras and intense close-ups seems to be the trend in movies these days.

I think the camerawork and visuals were a pleasure to watch overall. But was I the only one who felt a BBC-Narnia vibe when Caspian approached Lord Bern in the dungeon? That particular scene felt like it was filmed for a television show rather than a feature film to me.
Lovely avatar by Mrulockia! Thanks so much!
I did not get that vibe...thought is was fine throughout to the end.

The camera looked pretty professional throughout the entire film, but sometimes it did feel a bit home-movie-ish. Overall, I thought it was nice, but I sort of miss the old cameras.
I thought it looked fairly professional, in terms of the cinematography. I did go to see in 3D, though, which was a mistake...the 3D was terrible. I've seen other movies in 3D which I loved, but this one...bleh.
But I absolutely agree with you on the lame script with no heart. I pretty much hated the movie because of that. XD

I can understand shaky camera work during fight scenes, as they are trying to recreate the hectic feel of a shaking ship and people running about the deck.
It did feel rather cheap though. The entire "story line" (the swords, the dahhhk evil) seemed more like a fanfiction than an actual adaptation of the book.
The scripting was also a bit lackluster. (I'll say 'a bit' because it IS Narnia, so I'm being extra nice) During the Coriakin's map scene, the script writers seemed to believe that the viewers are so dull, we need the main themes emphasized, pronounced, and repeated several times.
"You will be tempted, cough cough, look guys, it's the theme of this film, temptation; Look!"
Not an actual quote, but close enough, yeah?
So I'm going to say...a fanfiction writer won the lottery and decided to make a 3D film out of his/her possibly-could-be-interesting-but-rather-boring-as-is fanfic.
I thought the cinematography was gorgeous and more substantial looking than the story felt. I did think the beginning painting scene was a bit shaky and that the camera was a bit too close up on the three kids...maybe it was shot like that to induce audience seasickness.
